I am having a long-standing problem where large city tiles are missing a strip at the south end in region mode. The cities are fine to play, but it makes the regional view look bad. Any thoughts?

It's a known graphical bug associated with playing at the highest widescreen resolution.  The bug appears when you save the cities.  If you lower the resolution when you save, the glitch disappears in your region view.  It doesn't affect gameplay whatsoever but is a tad annoying.

I play at 1920x1200 and get that too, but I've noticed that as you build the cities the strips get replaced by what you've built....except the sea parts though sadly.

Any idea what the highest resolution is that is safe from this bug?

I play on 1920x1080 without any adverse affects.

I changed my desktop's SC4 icon target to 1920x1080 from 1920x1200 and the maps do appear perfect, but I'm getting black space down the sides too and the black space at the top seems bigger than it should be for just a difference going from 1200 to 1080.

How do you get yours to play at 1920x1080?

Thanks!

**Edit** That's weird...I changed my res back to 1920x1200 and the map's still perfect! I've been trying to fix this problem for a while and this little exercise has fixed it for me...excellent! :)

As best I know 1200 vertical is the breakpoint. It occurs only when the regional image is saved after a RENDER. A render is caused either by making a new map or doing terraforming (at least major work.. I've never looked to see if even little tweaks make a difference). So as long as you are under 1200 vertical and/or force no new renders, the pic will be fine.

Also as far as I know following a render at under 1200 vertical (done with a simple save), you can then switch back to larger verticals and it will be ok until you do a render again... so take all that for what it's worth.

No permanent damage seems to be caused by the odd regional appearance.. you can leave it like that, then force saves at lower res all in a batch after playing for awhile and have the region "normal" again.. in other words, even though it looks bad, it causes no game-play problems.
