Matching regular water to canals

Hi everyone,

I have a canal mod and everything works.  My problem is that my canals don't match the color of my regular water.  I would imagine this happens for everybody.  What are the workarounds for this?  Is there a water mod that matches a specific canal set?

Great question, which I pondered for a long time, but I don't think the solution is quite as great. I recently came across something from Simpeg.com here: http://www.simpeg.com/forum/index.php?topic=6102.msg167027#msg167027 that seemed pretty close. Looks like you'll still see waves washing onto something besides shoreline unless you turn your waves off though, and you'll have to place plopable water under your regular water, making that water look different from the rest, even if you have the water mod mentioned there installed. I came across something from PEG explaining why regular water looks so different from plopable water there also. I guess if you change regular water to make it less transparent waves and beaches look terrible.

Interesting.  In reality the canals are on the ground, and so as the water gets deeper it gets harder to tell the difference.  I suppose I could cover my entire ocean floor with canals!

Thanks

You're welcome and good luck. I stopped using canals for the most part awhile ago because of your problem, in favor of narrow rivers with various retaining wall and bridge configurations but the headaches just don't seem to stop. I think you could use dams as a workaround as well, with plop-on-top and regular water below. SimPeg has one or two and pretty sure there are options on the LEX and STEX. I've been planning on using Maxis' built in road retaining walls to make my own with the "setsealevel 0" cheat but I have to figure out the downstream, regular water parts first.

I have never tried to make canal water flow into game water because of this very issue. I always use locks for the transition.

Here's something that might interest you. I am starting work on a new set of "Canal Banks" That can be plopped along the shoreline of game water, or along side plopable water. Since there won't be any water on the lots, they will be able to be used with any type of plopable water.

That does sound like fun RebaLynn.  I will be looking into walls of all types.  In general I want industry to ocean transitions.  I have some from Pegasus, but they seem to go best with dirty industry.

My specific problem is that I intend to plop Simgoober's Textile mill into a city of mine.  The back of it is canal so it looks nice next to a canal.  If canals looked nice to my river I would be on to something.  Perhaps the mill leaks.
