@RustyXL: Do you know a tutorial of how to make the flight simulator files into sim city files? Or otherwise can you PM me how to do? Would be very nice!

To get a flight sim plane into SC4 you need to convert the model, import it into the BAT and texture it. I could make a tutorial if your interested.

@RustyXL: Yes, I'd be interested in a tutorial. Do I need any other software for it (I mean software to buy!)? And can I take the files I can download on fanpages of Flight-Simulator? And thanks for help!

I'll go ahead and post the turorial in this thread so if other people want to know how to do it they can too.

Some things that you should keep in mind before you do this:
-Not every plane can be converted correctly. I've found that most FS2000 planes work, but only a few FS2002 planes work. Planes from FS2004 or FSX don't work at all.
-Unless the readme says otherwise or you have permission to upload them, the converted planes are for personal use only.

To import a plane from Flight Sim you'll need something to convert the .mdl files of the planes into something that can be opened by Gmax. The only program that I know of that you can use is MDL2DXF (link).
That will convert it to a .dxf file that can be imported into Gmax. Once you have it in Gmax you'll need to texture it. If you don't know how to do that then here's a good tutorial.
After you have it textured you usually need to resize it to the correct dimensions for SC4. After that you just need to export the model, make it into a prop, and make a lot with it.

Sorry for my bad english....

Very, very nice looking airports all.

Well, seeing as I'm the one who started this whole thread, I thought it logical to actually post some pictures of an airport of mine. No overview shots here, as I kind of want to keep the layout a bit hidden. It'll hopefully play a role in a MD here soon so I'm not revealing too much, even though I haven't even started building cities yet  :D. Anyways...

A FedEx MD11 holding short of runway 8 left, as....

A bit of the Main Terminal (name yet to be disclosed). If you're wondering about the layout, just imagine a Tampa International runway layout mixed with a Denver-like terminal/concourse layout.

It may seem unfinished. The left side is unprotected and the airport is kind'a empty. But, it's been a while since I posted pictures. Oakwood Domestic Airport (ICAO code: PTOK. It's PT because the name of the country is Ports).

Lookie, SAS flies to Oakwood. You gotta wonder how that big plane makes a turnaround at the end of the runway.
300... 200... 100... 50... 40... 30... 20... 10

Yep, I still got it.

Here is Oceania International Airport (IATA: OCA, ICAO: NOCA).

Here is one end of the runway. Owing to the need to conserve space in this island city, the city planners decided to build only a turnaround at this end and to not develop a whole runway-parallel taxiway system. However, with the large runway, the airport can serve Boeing 747s and Airbus A380s.

The main terminal and other end of the runway. Notice that this end has a visual approach only. Fire services are provided by the city using standard civic fire trucks rather than being operated by the airport itself with special apparatus to save costs, and the fuel tanks are underground to prevent unauthorized access to them.

 Great work on your airports there and wonderful looking pictures of them, too, @ all!

allan_kuan: Your custom runway is huge!  Well... at 262 feet wide, I'd say its a bit too huge. ;)
Usually, runways at large airports are 150 or 200 feet wide, which is about 3 or 4 tiles wide respectfully in SimCity 4.

it's huge at 5 tiles, yes :D but Voltaire determined that this would be the correct width and i followed it as a result.

Besides, it does make the airport very Airbus A380 compatible. ;D

However, i'm not terribly liking the width due to my preference for even numbered lot sizes. But oh wells.

Kumba

I agree the runway is too huge, it should be more like 3-4 tiles wide. Yous till have to count for SC4 looks, cars, plane, buildings are all out of scale according to maxis scale of 1 tile = 16 meters.

allan_kuan1992

well... i don't mind that it's too wide... if you take a look at this airport:

http://www.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=amarillo&ie=UTF8&ll=35.219083,-101.710632&spn=0.009256,0.02135&t=h&z=16&iwloc=addr

the runway's width is much greater than what it typically handles. Then again I may consider um narrowing the runway.
