Searching by CS$$

Recently (within the past two weeks), I found a large office building that was CS$$ (it might have been CS$).  The description said something along the lines of, "finally, a solution to the seemingly neverending demand for CS$($)."  And it said something about it being slightly cheating because they were office jobs, something along the lines of a call center and/or selling credit cards by phone.

I could swear that I found this by searching on either LEX or STEX, but with the ability to use a pull down menu to select among categories such as CS$, CS$$, R$, R$$, R$$$, etc.  But now I don't see this option on either exchange.

Could someone please tell me I'm not losing my mind?  Help with either the specific building or the searching method would be greatly appreciated.

I can't search for stuff like "CS$" on Google because it doesn't acknowledge the dollar sign.  Or the Simoleon sign.

I think you are a bit confused:
- Most probably that "neverending demand" is for CS$, not CS$$. There are quite a few maxis CS$$ buildings of decent capacity, so it's quite easy to satisfy CS$$ dmeand. Not the case for CS$, they employ really few sims, and they upgrade all the time to CS$$, CO$$ and CO$$$. So you need a large commercial area to satisfy all CS$ demand.
- Commercial service buildings do NOT provide office jobs. They satisfy CS demand and provide CS jobs.
- Ploppables may offer two kinds of jobs, civic or commercial. The former typically require a maintenance cost, but in effect "inject" jobs in your city. Schools, hospitals, the Bureau of Bureaucracy etc fall into this category. The latter instead pay taxes (and provide jobs), ie they are like growable commercials, and of course satisfy (reduce) demand. So if you plop a commercial with jobs, you won't actually create more jobs; they will employ a number of sims, but growth will just not take place somewhere else. Better zone some more C (check local desirability conditions too), and make sure you have a positive demand.
- Jasoncw has uploaded a high-capacity CS$ building on the STEX. I haven't checked how it's modded, so I can't recommend for or against it. Don't know if this is the one you are looking for.

Yeah, I didn't mean that CS buildings provide CO jobs as defined by the game.  I just meant that the BAT in question looked like a mid or high rise office building.

Is it, or was it recently, possible to search LEX or STEX or another exchange by type, such as CS$ or R$$$?

I'm going crazy because I swear I did that recently but now I don't see that option anywhere.

chadmichael03

Or at least by density.

All I want is to know whether I'm crazy. :(

Use the LEX Category search under "power search".  Their are various options for what size r/c/i you may want

Oops, this is what I had found earlier that I wanted to find again.  It was right under my eyes.  http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1946

BUT.

On LEX or STEX, is there not a way to distinguish between CS and CO when searching?

I see on LEX the Commercial - Highrise, etc.  But didn't you used to be able to search by CS or CO, and possibly by wealth?  Or am I crazy?

Thanks for the help so far, and hopefully someone can tell me whether I'm crazy.  I mean, I know I'm crazy, but specifically about this.

Did take a look at the description of this download, but it doesn't say that it's "slightly cheating", nor it provides "office jobs". This is a higher-capacity, but otherwise very normal CS$ BAT/lot. It provides 258 CS$ jobs. Maxis bldgs provide up to some 150 jobs, but these buildings grow on smaller (1x3), high-density lots, so I'm not sure if this can provide more jobs for some given space.

Only if you're searching for CAMeLots. ;)
In that case you can search for these LEX Categories:

  • CAM Commercial Offices
  • CAM Commercial Service

And since SG's Thalimer Block is a CAMeLot,
I've changed its LEX Category to CAM Commercial Service. ;)

i remember seeing a building like you're describing on the stex in the past couple months.  It wasn't a fancy building, but i think it had a couple thousand cs$ employees.  I remember him calling it a cheat, and some of the commenters saying that it wasn't that useful because they liked having a large cs$ demand.just looked for it and was unable to find it though.
