Hi everyone....
I'm getting close to complete frustration, as I am being plagued with random crashes to the Desktop when playing thi fantastic game!  Here is what I am running SimCity 4 Rush hour edition in now: An Acer Tower...Aspire 5802 with Intel Core Quad CPU Q8400 Quad Core, and over 700GB on the hard drive...8GB of Ram...Windows 7 Professional version 6.1.7600 (Build 7600). I am also running a Nvidia graphics card:GeForce GT220 Driver Version: 8:17:12 5896
I tried almost everything I know...setting the affinity to zero....running the game in Windows XP compatibility....and other such things.  When I have the game up and running, I can play normally, everything seems fine, and then when I go to save, it will start to go into the save process and then crash to desk top, or it will save the one time....I then continue building and then the second save will not complete, and it crashes to the Desk Top.
This has been going on for sometime, however in just the last couple of weeks, it has increased, and now at times I do not need to go to the Save, it will just crash.
Anyone out there that can help....actually let me re-phrase that, anyone willing to help!! :)

When I started pausing the game before saving, I did get rid of all those saving CTD. Mind you, I still encounter lock-ups from time to time (I'd say about one out of three/four times), but none that seem to be related to saving. The game will simply randomly lock-up with no warning whatsoever, calling for a ctrl+alt+del -> terminate application.
I have an Intel E8400 Dual Core, with the game set to run only one Core 1. GPU Nvidia 9800GTX+, 4Go RAM and W7 64-bit. I'm afraid that's as good as I'll ever get it. I just need to remember to save often...

Never thought of pausing the game prior to saving...thanks for the hint!  I'll try it tomorrow....

well first question for you, do you have any custom content? Have you installed the necessary updates? If all else fails have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the game? I run windows 7 ultimate and i don't have problems with it as long as i run with admin rights. But if you have custom content installed you may not have a dependancy thats required. Sometimes something starts building with out the necessary file and it will cause the game to crash. there are numerous topics on crashes here as well as simtropolis. I would first start working on what you have in your plugins folder first then work outward. We are all here to help if possible to quickly get you back up and running.  -Jason

Thanks for the input thus far....first a little explanation....in my first post, when I asked if someone was willing to help, that was a wee bit of humour, as I know there are numerous reasons why SimCity will crash, and in addition...I've been a member of this great community for years, but I usually do not post unless I have an issue...which in of itself is not very nice on my part....I should share more on my positive experiences and not just call on others when I need help.
To answer the last question to me....yes I have loads of Custom Content, most likely more than I should, as I tend to grab almost everything...but I keep myself up to date and continual maintenance on my plugins folder.
Due to the frequency of these CTD's, I thought I may be battling something different than the other causes of crashes.  I have tried to Save while in pause mode...it, the game, acted the same....it crashed towards the end of the save process.  Another factor in all of this is at times the game will obviously save once, but not twice in a row, and of course I'll reload and start again.  In addition, at times the game will complete its Save, but than freeze immediately after, at which time I must manually get out of the game....
In regards to the Affinity setting....I usually use Zero....would it be conducive to use another core, or does it really matter....
Just some thoughts...and I will peruse the other Crash topics from here and Simtropolis and see if I can pick up on something.....
Thanks for all the help and input present and future....

Just a thought...and this may be a stupid question, however can one re-install SimCity Rush Hour over the existing installation without comprising the Plugin folder and the Region folder?

...at your own risk of course...

to be on the safe side copy your plugin and region folders to the desktop....

I use Vista so I go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features to uninstall... the unistaller will ask if you wish to keep 'player data' or some such statement... click the appropriate box...

and you should be good to reinstall... (I do a restart before reinstalling.)

... and don't forget to update if you are not using a EA or Steam downloadable version. 1.1.641.0

Good Luck..  ;D

Is it possible to translate these errors somehow? Or are we at the mercy of just deleting the whole plugins folder?

Hello.

I was getting random and sometimes frequent crashes as well, now I have none...here is what I did to fix my problems:

Not sure these two did anything but I will list them anyways:
(1) Set Sim City 4.exe to run in compatibility mode in "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" - or SP3
(2) Set Sim City 4.exe to run as administrator

(3) Compressed my plugins using Wouanagaine's DATPacker into about 16 DAT Files

Since then, the game has ran smoothly not crashing even once despite many hours of continued gameplay whereas it used to crash every 15-30 minutes.

Hope that helps.

To all who have responded to my outcry...THANK-YOU.....I can now get at least an hour or more  in on each session....I am now saving while in pause, and that has certainly helped, and I have changed to run as Administrater, and that has seemed to setle things down and the game is more responsive.  I don't understand why, however it is working...and that is all that counts! :)
I do understand and am aware that if one runs a lot of Custom material, crashes do occur...however taking some of your advice, has helped in restoring a reasonable amount of time in the game and changing and building my cities....it is now back to being an enjoyable experience....
