In honor of the First Anniversary of SC4Devotion, I decided to try and develop something special to do here in the MD Stats to commemorate this great time, so here goes...

A GLIMPSE AT GROWTH

When I was trolling through the older stats, I went back to the first week we did the MD Stats (May 16, 2007) and was curious to see which MDs were still around since then. I was excited to notice that all five MDs that were given Of Special Interest for May 2007--Calderwood (Muzz), Developing Islas Gemas (emilin), Nova Vesfalo (nova vesfalo), The Neo Byzantinian Empire of Stropon (Strechnitz), and Waterfalls... (patfirefightr)--were still active in the forums. After adding a few other MDs that piqued my interest, I tabulated the stats of each and put them on the graph to see the trends.

It's interesting to see how these MDs have progressed since May, especially the continuous battle for the top being waged by Developing Islas Gemas and AntigOne (Badsim). Other points of interest for me were Mind Scape's (rooker1) month of September and the rise of Osturland (Yoder7652) throughout the summer. All the MDs showed significant progress from May to the end of October (the latest MD Stats), and I believe they are a shining example of the great work being done here by the MD Authors at SC4D!

TIMES IN "GROWTH TOP 5"

Shortly after the inception of the MD Stats, we begin calculating the an MD's growth, or the increase in posts from week to week. Starting on June 13, 2007, a separate table was posted between updates, including that week's top five MDs by growth. To produce this table, I went back counted how many times an MD made it into the Top 5 lists, then used the pie graph to illustrate this. On the graph, you'll notice that a few pieces of the pie have a number of MDs, rather than names, since it was took up less space than every MD's name. For my fellow statistical connoisseurs, here's a table with the full list...

The sheer numbers of Gotham City (Eddie) and Region of Balnavia (tooheys) is quite impressive, as is the inclusion of Ennedi Plays Shosaloza (Ennedi), which has been a veritable mainstay in the Top 5 since opening on August 25, 2007.

THE "TOP 5" OF THE TOP 5s

While calculating how many times each MD was in the Top 5, I also tracked who had the highest growth numbers for a given week, and translated it into this graph.

This graph is pretty much self-explanatory, and I probably could have accomplished it with a simple table, but I on a kick with the Microsoft Excel charts...



Well, I hope you enjoyed this examination into some of the statistics that have popped up here since May, as well as our humble tribute to the anniversary of SC4Devotion!

I don't get in here often enough to comment, but now seems to be a good time. It must take you a long time to put these graphs together, but boy are these results worth it. This is a nice tribute showing how the MDs have progress in the short year they've had to grow... I can only imagine what that first graph will look like a year from now. Also, in regard to your post on Nov 3, it might improve the graphs if the lines were a bit thinner (though that seems to have been taken care of considering the most recent chart). Thanks for your continued work for this thread.

These are super Stats my friend.  What an awesome job you have done this time.  You have out done yourslef, you know this will have to be the new norm,......hehehe just kidding.  I have learned some stuff about my MD (and others) that I didn't know before now.  September was my month for sure.  Being in SIOTM was a great boost to my viewer traffic and I still would thank dedgren for the chance.

Yes, statistics can be boring and often they are. When? If their author doesn't know, what exactly he wants to know, or if he doesn't choose the right method of data presentation. You had some interesting questions, and you choosen a proper way of showing answers, so the result is interesting for us.

Somebody said: "Who asks in a wise way, receives wise answers from the world". The same principle exists in mathematics and of course in statistic.

I know you're a great supporter of MDs and I've often wondered why you don't have your own (well, I've not found one!).  Looking at the time and effort you put into this thread for the benefit of us all I think I now know why.
