Nice update, I like the way you have maintained the rural feel around your industrial area. Those electricity towers look good, much better than the default maxis lots. Perhaps a bus stop or two might help with your taffic problem.

Great work  Looking forward to the next update

thundercrack83

The industry in Clariston looks good so far to me! I love the railroad tracks passing by the factories and how you've made the power lines follow right alongside the road--that's very creative and realistic! Great job, my friend!

Night Pics for Update 2

I'll probably end up installing a bus service for this area because I don't want to upgrade to a road because the country look would be gone.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been able to come around to all the other great MDs on this site; I've been so busy lately, but I'll try to come around in the next few days. Anyway, replies will come next update. Thanks for watching!
God is awesome!

I would agree with the bus system. With the way industry (aside from the farms) seems to be centered on a few buildings, it seems like traffic would gravitate that way anyway. You've really nailed the rural look, but it will be interesting to see it change to something more urban too.

Jmouse

Hi Craig. Love those night shots in your update.
If you want to hang onto the country look awhile longer, try placing some bus stops around town then put those railroads to work. There's a really nice rural station on the LEX which handles both freight and passenger traffic. I use it a lot and have had some good results.
You're doing a fine job, so keep up the good work but take your time.

...And the night shots look great, too! I do agree with those that have suggested integrating some kind of mass transit. It make help out. Either way, I'll be looking forward to what you do next!

That are very nice night shots!! Looking forward to the next update!

tooheys

Nice night shots, looks like your worker's do some late shifts as well, or are they all heading out to lovers lane?

Cheers

Hi Craig.  I like the industry you have shown us so far and will be coming back to see how the story unfolds.  It sounds like Selicia has some way to go before the planning laws are fair - I felt sorry for your Pastor!

First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

MsD

I like this MD.  Great story.  Keeps me wanting for more.  Your region looks great.  Did you hand terraform the region?

Keep up the great work.  I'll be watching.  LOL

Update 3 - Clariston: The Town

Well, it's been quite a while, so I thought I would treat all of you with a lot of pics in this update (15 to be exact).

For the most part, I took care of the rush hour problem thanks to the great advice I got in my comments. The trains and buses are carrying so many people that the country road has 0 traffic in some places, and at its highest, it was 270 (remember, it was over 2000).

These first three pics show the trains and buses in action:

Sorry about the trip types menu

Now starts the actual town. First up is a wealthy neighborhood:

To the left, a railroad junction can be seen:

Going south, that road is the same road as the country one:

Going south again is another neighborhood:

To the left of the railroad junction from earlier is some apartments:

"Country road" runs into road from last pic:

The next five pics show Clariston as you head south on the same road (for you realists, I know the apartments don't match in some places, but that's just how the game is)

Overview of Clariston:

spartanB292: Yeah, I thought that just looked good because I didn't want a bunch of choking industry in the beautiful hills, but I'm glad it's realistic too! The street mod can be found at http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=11613, and it is applicable to some zoned areas (medium density, for one example). Anyway, thanks for commenting!
Jmouse: Yes, I enjoyed drum camp, and I'm glad to be back playing SC4! I'm just one of those guys who develops in a way that looks good and is at least somewhat realistic, and I'm glad you like my approach! As for the rush hour thing, I fixed it for the most part, as you'll see in this update, so thanks for the advice! And thanks for your comment!
tooheys: I'm glad you like the rural feel, and I'm glad somebody made more realistic power poles! Bus stops are part of my plan, as you'll see in this update. Also, I didn't answer your question last time about what drum camp is, so I'll answer it now: my school's drumline members go up to the school for a week from 8A.M. to 4P.M. where an instructor teaches us our halftime show music for football (American) games and also works with us on warmups and marching. Hope that explains it. Thanks for commenting!
thundercrack83: I'm glad you like the industry, and I always loved how power lines followed along the rails, so that's what I did in Clariston. Thanks for your comment!
threestooges: Don't worry, the buses are part of my plan, as you'll see in this update! I'm glad you like the rural look, and urban cities will come later (when I have time to make them). Thanks for commenting!
Jmouse: I'm glad you like the night shots, and that's exactly what I did to relieve traffic, as you'll see in this update! Thanks for the advice, and thanks for your comment!
thundercrack83: I'm glad you like the night shots, and you'll see what I'm going to do in this update! Thanks for commenting!
bat: I'm glad you like the night shots, and here's the next update! Thanks for your comment!
tooheys: Hehe, yeah the woods behind the railroad make great makeout spots! LOL! Thanks for commenting!
stewart_garden: I'm glad you like the industry, and the story won't be every update...just when I feel it's necessary to explain my placement of things! Anyway, I'm glad you liked the story, and thanks for your comment!
MsD: I'm glad you like the story, and see above reply to see what I said about it. No, I didn't terraform the region, but I sure do enjoy building on it! Thanks for commenting!

Those are some nice photos, Craig. The region looks so inviting -- like it's springtime the year 'round.  :sunny:
So glad you got those pesky traffic problems fixed. I think traffic (congestion, noise and commute times) have made me give up on more cities than everything else combined. I'm pleased to know I helped someone else out even though I don't always listen to my own advice.
So, waiting for more now ...

Joan

pickled_pig

Amazing rural areas - it's too bad the more urban areas don't exactly match up.  I see all those mid-rises rising out of nowhere and think, where are the workers and residents going to park their cars to work?  There's one great parking lot but more in strategic locations would really make things FAR more realistic!

As well, your urban areas are missing the aura that your rural areas have - whereas in the rural it's obviously and idyllic and bucolic place, I'm uncertain if the urban area is supposed to be clean, new sprawl or a gritty inner-city neighborhood...

Constructive criticism aside... great second and third updates!

Great areas near the railway! Also wonderful pictures of that railway!

tooheys

Nice update. I see you've used the sidewalk bus stops. I like them too, they do the job while being unintrusive.

Good to see you've maintained that rural feel. Like the pic's.

Cheers

Dave

Manny

I like this city! With his  forest and its villages! It's very well realized

thundercrack83

The railroads look great, as always! And I like the country roads your using in the residential areas, too. Looking good, my friend!

Owen Luby

Hey Craig! Nice start!
Glad to see you (again) with a new CJ/MD!

The style I can see in all your cities is very cool.. very wall 'n' tree...
I can't wait to see the end results... (knowing you, if there are any...  :Pj/k)

Drummers pride!
I want SC4 back!!

Night Pics for Update 3

Well, these will be the last pics for a while because I just got interested in a book series that's taking up my free time now (The Left Behind series for anybody who was curious).

So, without further ado, the night pics for Clariston: The Town...

I don't have time to do replies right now, so those will come next update. Thanks for watching!
God is awesome!

Jmouse

Very pretty night shots, Craig.
BTW, I used to spend my summers reading, too, but my favorite was Nancy Drew. How ironic that now, 50 years later, I've played the entire series on my PC! That's what I call amazing progress!
