East Tenne: Nyan Cat Vision

The second arrondissement of the national capital, adjacent to the Royal Quarter, is the Feline Quarter. The Feline Quarter is the home of the magnificent Bureau of Feline Affairs palace, which serves as the administrative headquarters for BFA activities in Schulmania and its colonies. The district centers around this landmark and its extensive gardens, but contains far more than just a palace. The bustling and densely developed district will be explored in multiple updates, as we stroll the palace grounds, amble along the Riverwalk, marvel at the plethora of cultural and economic amenities, and enjoy the ambience that only a feline capital can provide.

A young feline visionary, Rainbow Poptart Nyan (known to his friends as "R. P." or just "Nyan Cat" for short), has recently arrived in the Feline Quarter. He wanted to speak to the BFA High Council about his grand scheme. What could possibly motivate this gray kitty to travel hundreds of meows across a war zone just to share his vision? Let's find out what he has planned. And, if he has his way, it will forever transform Schulmania.

Let's follow along on Nyan Cat's plan to transform the feline world...

He arrived at the waterfront on a small passenger boat. He missed the ferry because he was too busy looking up in the sky and daydreaming, so he missed the ship. He paid a fisherman 20 purrs to bring him here.

He spent quite a while flying paper airplanes off of the edge of the Riverwalk, carefully noting the trajectory of each. He was very methodical in his observations and note taking.

His best planes which went the farthest went in a long arc pattern, reminiscent of a rainbow's shape. The best couple got stuck in the ivy and he had to carefully climb down to retrieve them.

He went up and down the Riverwalk, tossing planes and taking notes. Kinda unusual for a park-goer on a nice sunny day...

Eventually he got thirsty and stopped by a refreshment stand to get some assorted beverages. Since he was daydreaming and looking skyward as he walked across the plaza, he dropped several of his small bottles and they fell, spilling on his notebook. The paper was now stained with a rainbow pattern of fruit colors. Not really an auspicious start, eh?

He was going to leave the waterfront to look for a shop selling notebooks. But he instead turned around and decided to use the rainbow stained pages to make new paper airplanes. He was delighted with the rainbow going across the sky as he threw each plane. His vision started to coalesce.

He was hungry and decided to get a bit to eat. But the local restaurants were a little out of his price range.

And the local mouseteria was fresh out of mice...

He ended up at the local grocery store, where he had just enough money to buy a pop tart...

...and a legend was born

Nyan Cat headed out to meet the BFA officials, more confident than ever about his plan

He went to the Jardin des Felines on his approach to the BFA palace

He got lost in the gardens; he should have been paying better attention

He was too excited and not looking where he was going

Eventually he found his way back to the main path

His goal: the Bureau of Feline Affairs Palace

The clerk on duty told Nyan Cat that the High Council was across the street at the Feline Heritage Center, attending the grand opening of a new exhibit of exotic fabric scratchware. (For those uninitiated in the world of feline arts and crafts, fabric scratchware is the decoration, by claw, of various fabrics, such as rugs and couches and chairs. Perhaps you have seen it exhibited somewhere before?)

Here, we see famed artiste Jean-Clawed van Pounce engaging in one of the feline world's oldest and most popular forms of artistic expression

The Feline Heritage Center (at left) is the world's largest feline museum

At the Feline Heritage Center, Nyan Cat ran across Fleet Captain von Bremerhaven, Governor of The Wirdleplex. He shared his vision with the governor, who was impressed and asked for a demonstration.

Together they headed off to the dome of St. Sylvester's. Here, Nyan Cat intended to fly his super plane and convince the felines they need to fly!

From the gilded dome, Nyan Cat launched his best rainbow plane as far as he could. He noted too late one of his poptarts was stuck on the plane. But, the plane flew on,... and on,... and on...

Over the Feline Heritage Center and almost to the river flew the rainbow poptart plane. Imagine the astonished looks on the feline faces below when they looked up and saw it:

And a legend was born...

After such an impressive demonstration, the BFA High Council quickly approved a huge grant for Nyan Cat to design the ultimate feline flying machine.

BEHOLD!!!

East Tenne: A Garden Stroll

There's so much to see and do. It's a good thing that the roads are well organized, even if many are diagonal.

Three point intersections such as this are common in the Feline Quarter

Of course there's plenty of squared off intersections as well

And of course a meandering track along the Riverwalk

And any stroll along the Riverwalk is not complete without stopping by a local eatery or perhaps some quick fishing. The national fish, the catfish, is always biting.

You can stroll all day along the length waterfront park. It stretches the entire length of the district. And you can't get lost, since all you need to do is walk in the opposite direction to get back to where you were. You could walk backwards instead, but that might prove awkward...

The Riverwalk has many amenities. Birds like perching on the column, providing for easy pickings for feline eager for a fresh snack.

And of course plenty of cafes provide alternatives to catching your own snack...

But instead of meandering along the sidestreets of the Feline Quarter, let's head over to the Jardin des Felines for a picnic and a rousing game of hackey sack

There are many access points along the gardens. The center of the gardens is of course the national BFA headquarters. Did anyone remember their hackey sack?

There's a massive formal garden behind the BFA palace. Looks like a great place for our game.

And then we can play hide and seek along the meandering paths through the gardens

The gardens are quite extensive. They range from the riverfront all the way to St. Sylvester's.

Beautiful St. Sylvester's Square featured The Gloriette, a fabulous addition to the park like setting

The golden dome of St. Sylvester's is a landmark in the Feline Quarter

Let's make our way back across to the BFA Palace. There's a poetry reading by e. e. clawing today and it's free!

So through the gardens we go...

Oops! We were wrong. The guard says the poetry reading is across the street at the Feline Heritage Center. Let's head over there now.

Just in time! To the courtyard! Let's get our culture on!

Afterwards, we can head out to look for mischief to get in... that shouldn't be hard to do!

Mischief? Us?! Never!

Great work and a nice selection of buildings. You love cats, don't you? I think that Nyan Cat song will be stuck in my head the whole day, after seeing Nyan again. $%Grinno$%

Very nice updates! I think I'm in love with your city, then again, Paris is the city of love they say, so it wouldn't be surprising! And the diagonal roads in the first picture are outstanding. Keep it up!

Dantes      The Nyan planes are still on the drawing board but it would be fun to make them available for folks to place at their airports.

Mave94   It is a feline nation. And since cats rule the internet, soon they will rule all! Meow-ah-ah-ahhhhh!!! LOL!

Vortext   Thanks. I have been playing around with the Parisian stuff and each district I am trying something new. Glad you like this version.

Flatiron   Thanks! Glad you like it and welcome to Schulmania!

East Tenne: Island Sanctuary

The Royal Quarter, home of the magnificent Wirtyplace, also contains many government buildings, prominent businesses and some special places. The district comprises of the south bank of the mouth of the Wirdle River as well as two islands within the very narrow delta. The smaller, easternmost island is Robin Island, a private sanctuary for the Supreme Wirdle. It is connected to the palace complex by a bridge to the south and to the north bank by another bridge. The island is given over mainly to an elm grove and walking trails. There is also a small chapel on the site to allow for reflection and mediation. The island is one of her favorite spots and it reminds her of her birthplace across the sea in Wirt. Not only are there some nice climbing trees but there are also plenty of pounceables waiting to be caught.

The chapel sits in the center of the island. The only other built items on the island would be a pair of Babalonia style obelisks flanking the bridge to the palatial Wirtyplace complex.

The Supreme Wirdle can go to the rocky shore to look for fish. But she does not like getting her paws wet, so she more often just sits on the rock to enjoy the sun.

Climbing the big rocks can give some fabulous vistas of her capital

The southern bridge is flanked by these obelisks

It is a very natural place, just the way she likes it

A wider view of the island, looking west

The view looking north, as if approaching from the palace

Looking toward the palace to the south

Not quite the precision gardens one would expect at a palace. But then again, the Supreme Wirdle is an outdoorsy kinda gal...

The ceiling in the chapel was expertly frescoed by the renowned painter Meowcelangelo. Perhaps you have heard of him?

Significant boat traffic passes by the island daily, as ferries, ships and fishing vessels ply the Wirdle River and the Tenne Sea coast

East Tenne: The Woodlands

The 12th District of the capital is a largely residential area. Located in the northwestern corner of the National Capital Area, The Woodlands is a low density development, essentially a suburb. It is best known for the distinctive tree-filled park which inspired the district's name. The circular park's boundary road connects the five main roads of the neighborhood. One, West End Boulevard, serves as the connector between the capital and the regional capital of Roane-Anderson, not too far to the west. One of the more upscale roads in town, Queens Road, runs northwest from the park and is lined with many nice homes. Let's take a trip down Queens Road and see what they have to offer.

Herrenhaus von Katzen is a neighborhood favorite for its amply stocked koi pond.

At the Maison des Ronrons, the gated entrance is framed by a small pedestrian bridge, so that felines walking on the sidewalk are not inconvenienced by carriages going in and out

Whisker Woods is a mansion known for its party balcony. Guests are able to dine alfresco on all sorts of gourmet treats, often featuring live string quartet music from the symphony. Not a bad place for a gathering, if I do say so myself.

Palazzo Schulmanini is the largest home on the street. As you can tell from the photo above, it is easy for someone on the balcony to drop a water balloon on the head of an approaching visitor. So, be sure to wear your hat,... just in case!

Here at stately Wayne Manor, nothing out of the ordinary ever goes on. That's our story and we're sticking to it. Of course, we will admit that Catwoman has come by a few times, but that little secret stays between us and Alfred.

Wirtington Mews also has a koi pond in the front yard and is surrounded by woods full of lots of juicy pounceables...

Château des Chats Noirs is one of the best places for a garden party. Also, not a bad place for a hunt. The prey is both wily and succulent here.

Glenwood School is the neighborhood school. It's simple wood construction stands in sharp contracts to the fancier abodes on the street. But, it is a highly regarded school and beloved by its students and the community.

Harar House is designed to resemble the national palace in Lake Felis. They did a great job matching the features up, don't you think?

Almost hidden by the tall tress is Purrington Place, a lovely home near the school

Koci Dom is an estate near the end of the street. It has a lovely courtyard the residents enjoy in good weather.

Anyone noticed the median in this road yet? Rather opulent, don't you think?

Not many roads have as much lavishness on them as Queens Road does

Plenty of places for the kids to play...

Special care was taken to make the infrastructure special, including the lush median and paved brick sidewalks

Small pedestrian bridges allow joggers and walker to proceed unimpeded by carriage traffic

Plenty of trees allow The Woodlands to retain its character even though it has been built out substantially

The only down side is you have a ways to walk should you need to go next door to borrow a cup of sugar...

Château Griffe (at right) has some prime hunting grounds

There is also a great patio with a fancy fountain

Casa di Gattini is a lovely home with a unique rooftop balcony

This is a great new part of the NCR. I liked your comment about the koi pond... I bet they're restocking that on a weekly basis.
