modifying train (monorail) speed?

Hello,

I saw somewhere that someone managed to modify the vehicle's speed for SC4 (which you can drive it easily).  I examine the file but I am no genius programmer.  I thought I better ask around here first before I try to tackle it for train - (specificially monotrail - since it is too slow comparing to IRL monorail).

I wonder if it is possible to create LUA script to modify monorail's speed just like someone's managed to do the same thing for fast car?

Otherwise I could fall into that endless hole from alice of the wonderland(!). :P :)

Thank you for the answer.

PS moderator - feel free to move this thread to other section if it is more suitable as I'm not sure if this thread is right place for my question.  Thank you again.

I would have to ask around but I think that my eventual plan is to make the monorail system into a High Speed Rail System. That would mean just like the RRW rebasing of course increasing the speed of the trains. To me the current HSR and monorail are too unrealistic IMHO and I aim to change it to a RRW type HSR System.

Here is my post from the RRW Thread...

The last and only time a NAM was released with a release date (NAM 31.0) it was half baked and put the team under pressure to fix the issues. Much of the team at the moment have heavy RL so it is hard to quantify what will and will not go in the next NAM. The HSRP version I am making is piggybacking on top of the current HSRP at the moment. I will have to discuss further what direction the HSRP will take. At the moment I am just experimenting with ideas for what people would like in a future NAM beyond NAM 33.

Anyways here are some more pictures of the HSRP next to the RRW

So getting back to your question. Should the monorail be upgraded to be at higher speeds. To me I think not. My reason is that the Monorail system is too unrealistic. Of course it could be done but I don't know how popular it would be since all the switches apart from the WRC's (which are not switches) are so abrupt and short  ??? So... You would see trains flying through bends that would cause the train to fall off IRL.

I think it would be better to make the system that would be realistic for trains at higher speed.

Hopefully I have not gone off a too far tangent in answering your question.

Thanks for putting it forward

Amazing! Thank you for your input and information as those are certainly good!  Yes the reason I asked on how to change monorail speed is because at the moment I am using BTM mod and I am not very happy nor impressed with the speed of bullet train/monorail.  Too slow! it is like driving a ferrari in 20 mph zone which is kinda ruining the experience (and the point) of it. haha!

But I am glad that the HSRP project is not entirely dropped though.  I hope there will be some development in the HSRP pipeline regardless of the deadline.  It would be fantastic to see the bullet train up and running next to RRW's trains like your pictures above.  Can't wait for it!  So I guess for now, I will stick to slow bullet train-monorail (or more accurate, a bullet train with broken speedometer(!) lol!) )

Happy new year to you, eggman121

Eggman121,

I am a bit impatient after sawing your pictures earlier that I couldn't wait any longer so I go ahead to modify my monorail (aka Japanese bullet train) and I can say that I am satisfied with the speed of my monorail-bullet train now.  It is a temporary fix (for me) until we all get official upgrade for HSRP in future NAM release (I pray that it's not dropped or being postponed again).

Thank you for the inspiration. :)

Hello Eggman121 again,

I like that skin of normal train in your RRW (see screenshot above).  Please can I have a link to it or at least point me to it in right direction?

Thank you again.

The train is the in the New South Wales/ Australia pack which can be found here: http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21050-nsw-state-rail-pack/

Also I would refrain from doing multiple posts in succession. I understand your enthusiasm but it does catch the ire of some of the staff.
