extended stage ranges

I'm using CAM with the *extended* stage ranges option.

After going into a pre-existing (pre-CAM) region, I'm not getting any of the larger higher stage (R or C) built anymore!  The pre-existing ones are still there, but that's it.  E.g. for residential they won't build ANY apartment buildings in my cities anymore, just houses.

I know CAM is working though because I was able to place the CAMeLot counter in my Industrial city, and it's seeing several industrial CAMeLots.

Anyway, I though this might be due to the stage thresholds.  I've looked in the CAM manual for the stage thresholds.  Could that be it?

InvisiChem

This very well could be. Although the stage curves are the same, the population thresholds are much greater with the extended option. It is unlikely with a single city you will see anywhere near a stage 15 building. The population values are roughly double what they were with the original CAM. The standard option you would still see a little slowdown, but not as much.

Keep playing the region, get those population values up and you will again see those larger buildings grow again.

Thanks InvisiChem nice to hear from you. I'm so happy there's a way for Mac users to get your package!

The thing is, I don't think I'm getting any new construction beyond stage 1 residential after installing CAM (see attached photo)... it's all just single family houses!

I expected to see at least a few small apartment buildings.

Help!!

APSMS

I would say that you'd need to fill most of a large city tile with homes before you should expect to see serious development past stage 1-3. Also make sure you have water or the larger buildings won't grow (I always forget this).

Also, I think most highrises/apt buildings start around stage 4-6, so it should be SFH for a while.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I see the Census Repository Vault in there. Query it, and tell me your regional residential populations. I'll open the tables and see what stage exactly you should be at this point and get you percentages. Note that it will not be total population counts, but for each type, R$, R$$, R$$$. Soon, I'll post a thread with all the tables in it, just like RJ did with the original CAM. :) First, I have to finish the new installer, upgrades and PIM-X/relot of all maxis growables.

APSMS has this pretty much perfect, as always :)  His advice is really good, I know I listen to it. Also, once we get the stages you should be at, the rest will be his advice and zoning density.

Cheers.

Sorry I don't know how I ended up spawning 2 threads about this, sorry.   &mmm Picking up on your advice to take the screenshot from the counter tool (from here http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=17417.msg508161#msg508161):

I've attached the tool.  I grew some farms, but I do not see the farm jobs in the region totals.  So CAM is not installed then?  Or I didn't do the data packing right?  Oh well.

APSMS

That looks correct.

I'll have to check in my game, but iirc, if the farm jobs weren't counted you wouldn't see them in the subtotal for city industry jobs.

The regional job totals don't usually list subtotal, so it's only indicative if you remember what every other city has (or you use the BSC tracking mod (by Daeley), which will provide you with a citywide job/pop count you can compare with.

Same as APSMS, it is all looking good so far. From the regional total, assuming most of the population is R$$(which it should be) this should put you at a comfortable stage 6 overall with a 5% - 12.3% chance of growing a stage 6 residential building. 11%-15% chance for stage 1, 15.4%-18.5% chance for stage 2, 17.1%-20.6% chance at stage 3, etc. As you can see, the chances for lower stage buildings are still quite high, so you should start to see larger growth as you expand more. :)

The reason for the ranges is an approximate guess on the R$$ populations from the total population. This could easily be shifted to an overall stage 5 depending on your growth for other R types.

Everything is looking good.
