TopCliff:  Nope... no monuments underway yet.

Nicodeme:  Welcome to the thread!  (and to SC4 Devotion for that matter)  I hadn't stumbled across that picture, although I wish I had.  You're the closest to what I'm doing with your guess.  &apls

XiahouDun:  It could easily work as a rec center so far, as well.

Mom:  Ugh... I don't want to drag work into this too often!  :D

Duane:  Hmmm... a psych ward could be a really fun post modern building.  :D

Mightygoose:  Nope... although I can see that one too.

I'll admit that picture wasn't much to go on, but Nicodeme actually came very close.  This will be the Performing Arts Center or some such name.  It will probably house some classroom and practice space in addition to the main theater.  The part I'm working on so far is the main formal entry to said theater.  Here's a little bit more:

That's about it so far.  This one could take a while... I'm already starting to confuse myself with this one and I haven't even gotten past the front walls yet!  ::)  Most of what you see now will be some type of lime stone finish.  The few textures that are on so far are place holders more than anything else, so don't get too excited about that just yet.

Oooh, a performance center! I can't wait to see what it looks like, and from the picture you just posted, I can tell already that it's going to be fantastic!

Pat

Jon that is looking real sweet and I do agree with I take it is your mom what she said about "Improving education one meal at a time."

Building Better Buildings Better

Sim Shady

wow thats a pretty university!

Nicodeme

It's looking better than the MSU Auditorium. :)

I'm a long, long time lurker and have always admired your work and am glad you're influenced by the great architecture that's in our state. Sorry to be losing you to California, but you're definitely upgrading from Michigan. Keep it up!

Very nice and detailed again  You're becoming a real BATting machine  :P

oldrogue

thats a really beautiful university there in Sas...er Sascet.. unh Canada.. :D  My college had maybe 5 building when I went to it back in the '60s...sheesh....

Jon....great work....and this is sure a fun thread  btw.... don't cha love how everyone is getting involved?  Hope so anyway ;D

Thundercrack:  Thank you!

Pat:  Thanks!  That is actually scarily (is that even a word?) close to the company's real slogan... "Nourishing the minds of the future" or something like that.  ::)  By the way, I'm rather disappointed.  There's a feature in this latest building just for you and you didn't even mention it!  ;)

Hogmeister:  That is a very impressive looking school.  I see quite a few elements that I used in some of the early buildings for this project.  I wonder where those steps go off to the left in the first picture...  %confuso

Sim Shady:  Um... nevermind.  You weren't talking to me...  :D

Nicodeme:  Thank you!  I get ideas everywhere, but there is definitely a midwest feel to a lot of what I make.

Tag One:  Thanks!  I seem to go in streaks, I think...  :D

Duane:  Thanks!  I always enjoy this thread... that's why I keep showing up here!  ;)

Well this one is progressing, although somewhat slowly so far.  It took me a while to get the angles right today, but the main auditorium is basically closed in now.  I could probably stop right here and call it a building... and I probably will make a version with just the theater for "non-university" uses.  Here's a look at that part:

The orange doesn't necessarily mean brick this time... although parts of it might be.  I just switched colors to make it a little easier to see what I was doing.  Anyway... since this will be for the university, I felt the need to have some classroom and rehearsal spaces, so I added on.  My hope is that when this is finished that's exactly how it will look too... like it got added on later.  This is pretty rough, but it's just to give an indication of where things are headed:

I'm sure quite a bit of the classroom pieces will change as I start adding them in for real, but that's about it for now.

The Auditorium looks very authentic, the business school is suitably imposing, and the modern buildings are sadly extremely realistic (why can't they ever make a building that blends with the prevalent architecture?)

Do you have any idea when original part university and/or the westlake will be released?

Keep up the good work, we are all bowing at your feet.

I like the idea of having the Auditorium/concert hall as two seperate entities.....methinks one could manage to use both in a city....

Great work on the new hall. I also like the little bridge you've thrown in there (something you don't usually see) and I like it. It may just be that there are no visible doors/windows yet on the back part, but it seems like the entirety of the structure might flow better with the main hall turned 90 degrees (clockwise) so that anyone (students or patrons) could both approach from the front and still have easy access to the majority of the building. However, it looks like it'll be a great building either way.

Pat

OK now I feel like a total Dork here Jon and Im sowwies I didnt even notice, and if Im thinking right the Dome in the center at the front entrance area right?

btw welcome to pg 67 Jon.....

GrizzlyBuilder:  Thank you!  I'm still shooting for a March release of the initial university pack.  Please don't bow... I appreciate it, but it makes me feel a bit awkward too...  :D

Duane:  Thanks!  I'm sure several of these buildings will find second or third homes somewhere.

Matt:  Thank you!  I'm still tinkering with the overall shape of the buildings.  Right now I'm a little concerned about the total size too, so we'll see what happens.

Pat:  I'm not sure how one becomes "sowwies" or what that even means...  :D  But, yes... the stained glass skylight is for you.  Thanks for turning the page!  (on a long and lonesome highway... east of Omaha...)

Well I started on the classroom sections.  This probably doesn't look like a whole lot yet, but I'm just kind of working my way around right now.

The curved wall has made a new appearance... although not in the way we all expected.  ::)  I thought it would work well there for a larger rehearsal area... like a band or choir room?  I don't know, but I like it.  I still have some details to add around the new entry... but that's where it will be.  Anyway... lots to do, but there it is for now.

Ooh, a drama center? I see a lot of great work here. Now you just need some spiky haired students smoking pot behind the building. Actually, bad idea. Let's keep the stage family friendly. So, what's the first showing going to be? Perhaps Of Mice and Men would be a good choice. Later.
Best movie of all time: Ferris Bueller's Day Off. If you disagree, Cameron will send your car over a cliff.

Please, call me Leo.  I quote John Lennon now, a great musician and philosopher. Particularly, one of his songs: You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you join us, and the world will live as one.

Don't forget that a theater still needs storage space, changing rooms, offices etc.

And an open courtyard, like in a bad Hilary Duff movie, so all of the students can jam for no apparent reason.
I really like the main theater building.

simdad1957

If you removed the classrooms from your Drama Centre, it would look very much like Convocation Hall at Mount Allison University here in Sackville NB. I'm not sure the classroom space is really necessary as this function could be provided in other buildings on campus (eg - the Fine Arts Dept.) and this would allow the overall footprint for the building to be a lot less. This might improve flexibility in plopping this building with relation to other buildings on campus......just a thought. Hope you don't mind some (hopefully) constructive criticism.

Keep up the good work.
Go Sens!!

&apls   Jon tha t is just wonderful there.... I do thank you for the stained glass dome it sits perfect there!!!
