Beautiful, just beautiful. I do have a suggestion for the Latin phrase though, being a Latin II student.

Caedes ullus spera pro universitas pacis quod benevolentia obviam vir utpote 1887.

If anybody knows the translation, you'll see the irony, although the translation was a little hairy.

being away for some days made me read a couple of pages, but it was worth the time i spent

the "progress picture" is great, and the dorms for pack 2 are also great.

Duane:  Thanks!  That picture is a small piece of the campus at Michigan State University.  It's a huge campus... I'm told it's listed as one of the prettiest, but I'm not sure who makes those lists.  It's in East Lansing if you're curious to look it up.

TopCliff:  Thanks!  I took 4 years of Latin in high school... but I have no idea what you just said!  :D

Pat:  Thank you!  Daeley wrote a tutorial about queries a long time ago that I still have somewhere.  It's probably still on ST, but I'll have to find the link.  There is also a tool by Ilive called the UI Editor which I find quite helpful.  I'll scout around and see if I can find them for you.

Mauricio:  Thank you!  Good to see you back!  ;)

I took the lighting suggestions and tinkered with both dorms a little more.  After a little trial and error, this is what I came up with:

It was a little tricky getting the size of the blinds right.  Too tight and the light was completely blocked... too big and it didn't look like anything.  But I think the end result was worth it, so thanks for the suggestions!  I did the same to the tower dorms, but they take too long to preview so you'll just have to take my word for it.  :P

I had a couple false starts for a new classroom building today, but nothing felt right just yet.  So there's nothing new to show tonight.  On the other hand, I officially passed the entire university starter pack over to the Andreas and Ripplejet today.  They'll be working their magic for the reward chains and multi-lingual pieces.  All of which is another way of saying this project has finally come far enough to leave my computer!  %BUd%  &bis& %BUd%

Hopefully I'll have something fun tomorrow...

Looking good! If I remember correctly, it means Giving society more problems than it needs since 1887. Maybe you should run it through a translator. You know,, I like the mdoern dorms, but some really good ones are at USCB. Great ugly dorms there.

The blinds look great with the nightlighting! It adds a bit more variety than just regular lights.

And I looked at the campus on Google Maps, and all I can say is the university must like having oddly shaped buildings on their campus. Although I can see how it was named as one of the prettiest, with all of the trees and such around. And it's spread out, which can be a good thing.

If you want some inspiration for some more modern dorms, take a look at the University of Texas at Arlington's dorms. There's two new ones on the east side of the university that are relatively new, and they don't look like generic boxes. :P (The roofs aren't flat either, they're slanted)

I'm liking the query ou have created.  The furniture in the nightlights is an excellent touch as well.

SC4BOY

DUDE!!! Those window lights are majorly better looking .. NICE WORK!!

That pic you have of the campus is pretty typical IMO for a large campus.. almost all have "evolved" over time and are kind of ramshackle in their development over the years..

oldrogue

Jon, you've taken the night lights to a new level.....from "ohhh look at the pretty colors" to..."wow, those people should close the blinds"  Nice work.....
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

TopCliff:  I'll pass on the translator... I've been out of high school for too long to really care much about translating Latin anymore.  :D  USCB?  Southern California Berkley... State Colorado Boulder... South Carolina Bog... I don't recognize the letters, sorry.  ::)

XiahouDun:  Thank you!  I'm going to start blushing...  :D

John:  Thanks!  Yes, there are a lot of odd shapes on MSU's campus.  I'll have to take a look around Arlington for some more ideas, thank you.

Rushman5:  Thank you!

SC4Boy:  Thanks!  It's definitely grown and spread out over time.  It's also a pretty major agricultural research school, so they have a lot of facilities all over the state... farms, stables, and the like.

Duane:  Thank you!  I have to admit, it turned out better than I really expected it would.  :D

I couldn't really stay focused very well today... probably the dentist's drugs again.  I think I have three different buildings going right now, but I finally picked one to stick with for a little bit.  Here's a sneak peek:

This will be one of the second wave trigger classrooms.  I think I'll call it the law school... I'll pick a permanent name eventually.  Still a lot of details to add.  I also need to figure out exactly where the rest of the entries will be.  I was mostly trying to get the overall shape sorted out first... which I think I'm pretty happy with now.  This should end up being around 5x4 again... same lot size as the Olson and Conger buildings.

Wow, you continue to impress :o

As for names, if you are looking for a joke one, what about something like Hsu & Wynn, Sumey, or the Courtney School of Law. Or could do like Notre Dame has and just name it after the school itself.

Seems like it has been a while since I last posted here (what with school back in session) and look what I come back to... cool. I like the design of it so far. I'm curious to see what will happen with the roof area and the texture that it currently has on it. Have you considered placement of the law library in the facility or will it be a separate structure? Either way, I'm sure you could find some willing donors (Dewey, Cheatum and Howe to name three). Looking back through the updates, the costs for the first string of triggers looks pretty good ($250 for 1700) and the dorms have really turned out well. As far as TopCliff's USCB statement, he may be referring to UCSB (which is University of California: Santa Barbara) which has some interesting towers that I believe are dorms. Isla Vista though has pretty much become the college town around there though (I used to live in Santa Barbara... it was always interesting to see the pictures in the paper after the annual Halloween Party-see the link). Tangents aside, great job. I'll be curious to know what is next and also to see what you do if/when you make the school of Science or Engineering. Hope all has been well with you. See you around.

Hello JBSimo,

you really are delivering a constant flow of impressive buildings! Great talent!

I have a suggestion for the "star-wars" dorm: the floar of the main hall seems a bit repetetive (correct spelling?). Probably due to your texturing technique, which really works well in rest of the building! But the big front windows do destroy the achieved effect in my opinion. Maybe another texture fits better, or even some simple models. Also it wouldn't be unusual to have some brighter lights and not too much furniture in the entry area. That in combination with some "normal" floor texture like could help removing the repetition.

Wish you the best,

sco

Jon wow that is something else!!! OK kewl anything will help far as UI is going...

Hsu & Wynn? Hmm, that reminds me of the mayor of Austin. His name is Will Wynn. :D (Seriously, it is!)

Jon, that looks amazing, you continue to impress me and everyone else. And a law school sounds great. As for looking around UT Arlington for some more ideas, you probably won't find any. :P Other than the two newest dorms on the east side, there's really only one other interesting-looking building in the entire university. Most of the buildings are as generic as they could get.
