Lookin real good jon...your building's are sure used in a lot of SimNation I love the the new building and have spots for it in mind already.
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

One of the things I like about this tall thin building is the way you could make it be side and/or end on to the street, as those large arched windows on the end could easily be considered part of an expansive lobby. It wouldn't go amiss as a wall to wall building.

Derry:  Thank you!  Actually, it was only 40 kids tonight... so that's a walk in the park compared to what I'm used to. ;)

TopCliff:  Thanks!  More is coming... "someone" has been funneling me some pretty cool pictures.

Pat:  Thank you!

Duane:  Thanks!  I saw your pre-edited post and would love that as well.  I'll try not to leave the spot in your city blank for too long.

Hogmeister:  Thanks!  I suppose I could alter one of the sides a little bit to make it more workable as a corner building, although it wouldn't fit the normal setback on the sidewalks that way.  It will definitely fit a wall to wall setting pretty well.

I came fairly close to finishing this up tonight.  Still a few things to do and fix, but I'll explain after the pictures:

I tried something a little different with the roof this time... instead of the usual brick block, I thought I'd make it look added later (or maybe rebuilt for whatever reason) as more of an aluminum shed.  Obviously the walls are too dark, but that is an easy fix.  I originally planned to make the bricks darker but I like how they turned out... so the other walls will get lighter.  I'm not real happy with the roof on the sheds yet... it looks more like something from a farm than the top of a brick building.  So I'll tinker with that some more too.  Unless the whole idea is deemed terrible, in which case I'll just make something entirely different.  What do y'all think?

Other than that, I need to mix up the glass textures (they are all the same right now, but I'll change that to 5 or 6 different ones), add a few more trim details, and then lighting.  I guess I also need to decide if I should make one side a little more "street friendly" as Hogmeister mentioned.  Any preferences on that part?

Wow, that looks great, my friend! I like the shed you added on the top, too. Excellent job!

I like it with its current short street side, but I also think that a version with the broad side facing the street would be a nifty thing to add to the game. I like the roof building in its current style/shape but I agree that the texture could use a bit of adjustment. I'm not sure why the door to the larger part is on the opposite side from the access stair (I'm guessing that's what that little hut is). It seems a bit inefficient to have to walk all the way around. If you fed the children half as well as you BAT, then they had a feast. Also, in regard to your pic competition post, I know what you mean... on that section of the 1 (if I recall correctly) it starts to get a bit industrial around the ports. It's not too far (as LA goes) from where I live (just south near the 405/55 interchange). I'm not sure how a 10-lane road can grind to a halt quite like the 405 (though I hear that is from early development plans not quite working out... a few freeways were never built and the 405 became a funnel of sorts). I should wrap this up before I get on a tangent. Great work. I'll look forward to seeing this lotted.

Hi Jon- It's been awhile since I commented, but I regularly follow this thread. I love the Hurst (?) building! It definitely fills a need in the game. As usual, I am always excited for a new Smalltown building.  As far as the new building goes- I'm not sure about the "barn" on the roof  :D , and the long side should be more "street friendly". Thanks for sharing your creations with us- your hard work is appreciated!  &apls

I agree with Matt's logic on this. I can only suppose it's to create some visual interest on that side of the utility block although you could place some grill work or vents along that side for supposed ventilation and even some skylights along the brow of the roof for more interest.

Dustin:  Thank you!  I hope you'll like the shed even better now... ;)

Matt:  I compromised on the street faces, which I'll explain below.  I knew as soon as I did those renders last night that someone would think that was a stairwell.  It wasn't my original intention, but I certainly see the effect.  I've added another door to that side of things.  I had a look at the map and I see what you mean about the 405 being a bit of a funnel.  It's hard for me to imagine LA not building freeways... there were supposed to be more??  :D

Edge:  Good to see you're still around here!  I'm glad you like the new buildings.  I've fixed the barn...  ::)

Hogmeister:  I added some exhaust fans just for fun.

Mauricio:  Nice to see you again too!  Thank you, and I have a couple more in the planning books for the 10-15 story range.

So I fixed the shed... different roof and lighter walls.  I also added the roof junk and some other details here and there.  I mixed up the windows a bit and lit things up.  I made one of the sides "street friendly" as it has been called, but still left it fairly basic to keep the W2W option available.  Hopefully this will work for either setting.  Here are all the views:

I think that's all there is to say about this one.  Any last minute thoughts before it heads to the lotting department?

Fledgeling:  Thanks!

Pat:  Thank you!  It is next in line...

Duane:  Thanks!  I thought it would be a nice change anyway.  I'll keep an eye out for your pictures.

Well before I got too carried away, I figured I had better wrap up that Smalltown building.  So I got all set to lot it... and then my phone rang.  Apparently, the person who was to cook dinner tonight never showed up.  Since there was no one else scheduled to work with her, this did not come to my attention until the group showed up to eat and started wondering where everything was.   %bur2$  So I had to go (back in) to work and throw dinner together... which of course ended up being late... and then clean things up afterwards.  It probably goes without saying that I was less than thrilled.

Anyway... once I got back home (again) I finished up Kitty's Klothes.  This is now in testing alongside the Hurst Building.  Here are some in game shots to tide you over ;)

That's about it for now.  I'm pretty excited about the next one, but I probably won't start it anymore tonight.  So I guess that will be tomorrow's fun.

Sorry to hear about that dinner thing. Just wondering, but what did you throw together at the last second? Did you make a massive McDonald's run and take everything out of the wrapping? Oh, and that new building looks great. Hope you have a better day tomorrow dude.

Your latest small town building looks nice

Thank you for showing the backside of the street scene, the differing depths of the buildings adds a perfect sense of reality to the panorama and for me is one of the great benefits of wall to wall small commercial lots, loads of interesting visual variety.   &apls

Looks good there jon....will like having the additions.

Anyway, these turned out to be the only "main street" type pics in my albums right now...and thought you might enjoy seeing your handywork....

Hopefully they are acceptable as a showcase
