TopCliff:  Thank you!

RebaLynn:  Thanks and welcome to the thread!

Duane:  Thank you!

Pat:  Huh?   :D  Thanks!  (Hope you managed to get some sleep)

So here as a very early texture preview.  I'm pretty happy with the rose coloring, but as for the lower two floors?  Well... let's just say not so much yet.  They're definitely too yellow/dirty/dark/I'm not sure just what, but I'll figure it out eventually/not what I'd hoped for.  So that will get fixed.  It also goes without saying that I haven't made my way to the upper floors just yet... but they'll be the same colors as the base.

I didn't really change any of the modeling this time... just added textures.  There is still roof junk and details to be added.  I also haven't decided about that skylight just yet.  Finally, I'm still tinkering with Fledgeling's suggestion to get rid of the upper details inside the lightwell.  I may have hit on something that will work for that without sticking out like a sore thumb.  So we'll see...

I don't get what you dislike about the lower two floors textures. They look great to me, however textures are my achilles heel so don't pay attention to any texturing advice i give :p

the model looks great, and you've got a good start on the textures!

TopCliff

I'd say deepen the red texture, and then saturate it a little. I may be a horrible BATer, but I'm a great PhotoShopper, and textures I know. Looks great, it really does.

Looks good to me, but what do i know. It's way better than I can do.

hmmm....you know it looks pretty cool with the orangeish teture up top. stands out y'know?

EDIT: after looking at it definitely change the orange to the yellowish texture on the bottom. And it actually looks good, the pale rose and odd yellow/white.

Humm you know I think I actually prefer the yellower shade on the bottom to the rose bricks. The two may be just too dissimilar in color to go together on a single structure of this type more than a problem in with the colors themselves... It would be interesting to see this building's bricks just a tad darker yellow in shade from the bottom two floors. Because, you know, the human eye can detect more shades of yellow, more subtly and more reliably than any other color,   :satisfied:

Actually either a rose shade or the yellow on the bottom are quite different from most brick structures in the game, so they both are good.

So many new things during my absence!

Jon, your work keeps me hooked every time. I like the office buildings you have made. indeed midrises are a bit sparse amidst the hordes of skyscrapers and 3storey dwellings. but never fear, you're here eh? :)

I love the Buder building. A simple corniche inside the lightwell would make more sense in the way of why throw money on walls noone will see from the outside?  but if you keep them there who woud complain? In both situations you won't find me complaining.

about the base textures. why not go for something different and clad the first two floors in terracotta tiles? you could go for basic red or a colour glaze type?

Actually the lower two floors look fine to me.....kind of like ...well an older building on the fringes of the ritzy area...once grand but hasn't been washed and scrubed for many a year...if you want to change the front..then maybe leave the backside that way....did that make sense?  but at the same time.. :D .. I kinda like what Strechnitz says....terracota  hmmmmmm......
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

TheTeaCat

Wow excellent progress there Jon

Now the rose colouring looks really good to me and would love to see that stay, as for the lower floors, well the yellow is really good in my opinion but
Duane's suggestion of leaving the front like that and darkening/changing the back is a really good idea. As too is Hubert's suggestion of placing terracotta tiles but that would be my second choice.

Many older buildings in london have recently being cleaned  but to save money the only cleaned the front or visible bits that the public would see.
This would be even more noticable on this type of building where the 'well' would not be cleaned. but whatever you do, this is one wonderful looking building you are making and I would be more than pleased to see it grow in any of my cities.

this I think you deserve just for spending 2 hours grouping and ungrouping the windows, let me know when you need a refill when doing the walls :)

i like how the rose and yellowish looks on the building
i think it's ok as it's now, and maybe make the upper floors the same rose color and let only the first two with that yellow.
hope that makes sense :P

This is coming along very nicely, my friend! I don't mind the textures at the base, but I can't want to see what you find for them. I'm sure it will be even better!

Holy crap!  I must be on to something to get so many responses...  :D

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  The lower floors were just a little too bright for me.  I think the latest adjustments helped though.

TopCliff:  Thanks!  I think the second version of the rose texture is more saturated, but now it may be a bit too much.  Photoshopping is not my strong point, so I'll take all the tips I can get there!

RebaLynn:  Thank you!  Don't be so hard on yourself... sometimes I just luck out.   ;)

Dragonshardz:  I hadn't actually started the top yet... but I have now!   :D

Strech:  Thank you!  It took a lot of shifting and tweaking, but the excessive cornice is gone now.  I think the transition is presentable now.  I ended up having to remake the brick textures because of it since I didn't have enough height built in for three extra floors.  I made the brick pattern a little more subtle on the base, so maybe we could pretend it's terracotta too... or not... I don't know anymore...  :D

Duane:  I think I fixed the dingy problem... and I dirtied up the back a little more too.

Derry:  Thank you!  The rose is here to stay... as long as I didn't mess it up this time around.  Thanks as always for the cuppa too!

Mauricio:  Thank you!  I did a brief test run with the rose on top, but I didn't really like the look.  With a couple more tweaks, I think this will work out pretty well though.

Dustin:  Thank you!

Whew... now I'm too tired to update!  And anyone who just gave up and left after that sentance apparently doesn't know me very well!   :D  I got a pretty fair bit done today.  As I mentioned, I got rid of the extra "gingerbread" inside the light well.  It took a while to fit everything back together, but it all worked out pretty well in the end.  I then had to redo the rose colored brick textures, but forgot to write down exactly how I made them last night... and since I don't have good layer capabilities, that meant starting over.  I got close, but it's not quite what it was... now I just need to decide if it's better or worse.   ::)  I also tweaked the base color and finished the upper colors.  I have one or two small adjustments to make up there, but it's almost where I'd like it to be.  Finally... I added most of the shop fronts (although there are a few tweaks there yet as well).  I think that sums it up:

And... as requested by Tag_One...  ;D

That should do it for tonight,
JB

Hey, my friend!

I just noticed that you have "Buder" Building on the front instead of "Bruder" Building. It looks fantastic, though, however you spell it!

Wow, I hadn't noticed the beveling on those corners before... amazing detail, JBSimio.  I'm almost inspired to start playing this game again, if only to use this stuff.

That looks amazing! I love the street level view too. I think now that you've done a few of those you'll be seeing a lot more requests from now on for street level views. :D

I was wondering though, why is that area in the back the same rose color as the middle floors of the building instead of the yellow-ish texture?

A fantastic BAT, I like these old styles called "Chi" and "NY" in the game. I regret that I've already finished the cities of my region that include American highrises.  :-[

But I have to mention that ... hmm ... "Buder" may sound a bit vulgar for Austrians, especially Viennese.  $%Grinno$% Sorry for that, but I couldn't deny myself to note that.  ::)

Usually, the lighter areas are sandstone, marble, or some other facing material; it's more expensive than just brick, and so is only used where there is aesthetic value.  Thus, the back of older buildings is considerably plainer material than the front.
