•UPDATE SIX  Hammond Port Part One  8th MARCH 2008•
You all thought I was dead didn't you, well you were wrong! It's just that school and everything else has been severely restricting my free time  ... not to worry though!
Over the last three weeks I've been building a rather large new town on the shores of Hammond bay, a little south of Franklin sound- it's called Hammond Port. It's a little more spread out but not as high-rise as Franklin Sound Inlet and uses heaps of different styles of architecture that you'll probably hate when there all mixed together... but I like the way it worked out. Unlike Franklin Sound Inlet, this city is mostly grown, so I just decided to take the 'go with the flow' approach and let anything that wanted to grow, grow- Japanese, French, Northern American, European, Asian... I think there's even a mosque in there somewhere! It also uses one of the most complicated transit networks I've ever built.
Basically, the town consists of a smallish Downtown with suburban sprawl all around and a large PEGASUS port lining the coast line. Here's teh map...

Orange:      Semi-Downtown
Green:   Suburban Sprawl
Blue:      Planned Suburban Development
Yellow:   Port / Navy Docks
I've got a huge amount of images to show you guys, here's the first lot...

(Some pictures from the surrounding mountains.)

I'll update this with all your individual replies soon, but thanks to all of you who commented and gave constructive crit over the OSITM month!

Welcome back, Cockatoo! And you're back with a bang, my friend! This update is fantastic--I love your railroads and the port facilities--great job! Can't wait to see more!

I would remove Maxis, they aren't fitting to city (or photoshop them more darker). Then, why on Earth you have two empty eyecandy-avenues going under railroad and then overcrowded looking normal road having 3 railroadcrossings  :-\ and though Xannepans's rounabout is awesome, its doesn't look good in your city IMO. Sorry  &mmm

EDIT: There is not one, single positive thing you can say about anything in the entire update? Friendly, constructive criticism is one thing, but I think we can do better, my friend. - Dustin (thundercrack83)

Wouldn't it be such a pain to try and cross 5 road / rail crossings in a row (and the second one is just for the sake of the garden)... don't you think it's just easier to go under? I don't care about the small amount of Maxis buildings in the mix and seriously dude, who cares about the placement of a round-a-bout.
I put a lot of effort into this, and I don't really need those stupid little issues pointed out. If you want to criticize me, then that's fine but try and look at the big picture. I'm not going back and changing any of that.

EDIT: Edited for language. - Dustin (thundercrack83)

That's a fantastic mountain there, Cockatoo!
Hammond Port is looking excellent, too!
And the night shots and others too are really beautiful!

Looking forward to the second part! ;)

Some of these pics are incredibly realistic. Photoshopping is perhaps the best on devotion. Great work cocka-2

Mulefisk

Fantastic job.

I got a bit worried when you talked about all the different building styles you used in the opening, but it actually works really well. The mix might not be realistic, but because of the way it's been used, and how thoroughly the transit network is done, all those styles come together in a strange way. The city doesn't really look like anything I've seen before, but it works. The photoshopping really helps top it all of and give it a nice finish.

Can't wait for more.

Cockatoo what a great update. I stared at each of your pictures for a couple of minutes - and I love them (except the palms  ;) ) .

The snow mountains look soo natural, how on earth did you do that?
Your road and rail lay out is incredible, the tunnels and crossing everywhere... Also the waterfronts look great. This image is absolutely gorgeous!

Well, some positive things what I forgot to say: Times Square-look-a-like looks pretty good. The empty street during storm makes realistic. And night pictures from harbour area looks nice, maybe too much light in trees)

And making some corrections:
If you're trying to make realistic and good looking city, drop the crossing of and leave underpasses there. Of course it makes the traffic worse in your city, but in real world there would be no such crossing after underpasses have been built. And xannepan's building would work better in that enviorment without roundabout, now its just sitting there with "roads that have no purpose" and it doesn't fit with Tonks' railwaystation. I respect your effort, but little more work and it would be better. Miami Tint (I remember it was yours) was better than this has been so far.

The mountains look incredible.  Picture 13 (the first of the waterfront-at-night pictures) has got to be one of the best night shots I've ever seen... just beautiful!  I really like the mix of wall to wall buildings with those that stand alone... very realistic in my (admittedly limited) experience.  The only thing that really sticks out to me is the small commercial area between the two EL tracks... it just seems so dead compared with the surroundings.

I knew sc4 could look good....

... but not that good!! $%Grinno$%

That is incredible work. I never have the patience to create that much detail in a city :-[

Excellent pictures. I enjoyed looking at them all. You've downloaded a very good selection of buildings. The night time shots with the glistening water are well done.

•UPDATE SEVEN  Hawke Bay Part One  9th APRIL 2008•
Hey, long time no see, SC4D. Sorry... I would have posted these updates ages ago, but this site's been having so much downtime lately so I couldn't.
--- APRIL FOOLS UPDATE ON ST ---
Hehe, yea that one was a laugh...  &sly
Okay, and here's some of the serious stuff I've been working on over the last 3 weeks - Hawke Bay, An NYC style of metropolis with 3 separate downtowns separated by a rail and park system. Here's some overview shots while it was still a work in progress...

Oh yea, here's a lot I created for the base plaza of the AON Centre and Jardine House towers, using the buildings from the WTC base plaza:

And here's your update, the higher wealth area is the patch of glass towers nearer to the waterfront, where the mid/lower wealth areas are the patches of NYC style buildings further back.

Thanks for viewing guys. Believe it or not, there is actually more to come soon so stay tuned.

Now I could write replies to all the comments posted, some almost 2 months ago- but I think that would be kinda pointless.
So instead of that, Ill just say thanks now to all of you for the nice comments and constructive criticism, I really appreciate it- and don't worry, I'll get around to replying to your comments next time round. Cheers, Cockatoo.
