(if I asked "who died George" I would be asking George who died, if I was asking "who died, George?" I would be asking if George died. In this case, the question is where did George go?)

isn't it your asking George where the other has gone?? I'm shore that's the correct grammatical assumption isn't it? wouldnt you say: "which way did George go?"?
