More fantastic maps.
This has become an incredible project.
I really like that you have done so many different maps and all realistic ones.

Excelent maps Blade2k5, I went through all 19 pages last night.
I'll be picking up the Texas mappack tomorrow, just hope I get enough building time to actualy finnish a region.
Currently I have projects in 5 regions at the same time. [London without plugins, Londen with plugins, Matinenda, Hazaria islands and Portland.]  :D
South Padre Island [papab2000] looks so interesting to play to me so that's the one I'm gonna play.
My other favourite would be Hampton Roads.

Oh, would it be possible to create Tokyo in a small map, say 4 or 8 max. large tiles?

blade2k5

art128 - Thanks ;D  I hope you enjoy the Montana maps

rooker - Thanks once again.  papab2000 has been lending me a hand with the list of US maps still waiting to be made, so soon there will be more to come ;)

LoneRanger - I've been working on a various Tokyo maps over the past several weeks, but like the Los Angeles metro area, Tokyo is spread out all over the place and would be a massively huge map, so I'm going to have to do it in sections.  I'll keep you posted on any new developments

Well I keep a close eye on this thread then.  ;)
It's not ment as a request but I made a pic on what part of that city I'm especialy interested in.

Loads of bridges to build, Highways/Avenues, many harbour space and a perfect place to test the CAM to it's full potential.  :satisfied:

blade2k5

Ok, here's the Tokyo map I started with, it's a 7x5 large tile map and as you can see, it only covers a small section of the google pic you posted above....

And here's the area of the pic you posted above that this map covers....

As you can see, a 7x5 large tile map only covers a small area of what you would like to have.  Now an 8x8 would cover a bit more area than the map I've already completed, but to do the area you want would be an incredibly massive map and I doubt I'd be able to get the game to load such a map of that size.  Let me know what you would like to do.

The first thing I notice is that the main [in my eyes] river stops and a few others [canals even] are missing.
I don't know how sc4mapper is working and if there is an easier way but I could manualy give the rivers and canals some more shape.
It is what the map needs in my eyes.  ;)
As you know that takes some time but I would be very pleased with that region to work on.  :)
I love terraforming in game.
The dilema though is that most of the harbour is diagonal.

Btw, the canals in matinenda, did you do that manualy?

deathtopumpkins

These are some really nice maps you've created lately!

In regards to this Tokyo map, you'd be suprised at how big a region a computer can handle. I recently downloaded the full 3RR map from the STEX to test a few things and use as a reference when David's talking about an area, and my 5-year-old E-Machine can load it in under a minute from clicking the icon on the desktop with 2.1 GB of Plugins as well. So I'm just saying that IMO the map could feasibly be a little larger.

LoneRanger: Yes, the canals on that map were drawn in by me with SC4TF...I don't use SC4Mapper since it never loads on my pc.  As for the lack of rivers and canals for the map, that is because international DEM data is lousy data compared to the USGS data and rivers and/or riverbeds are not well defined with the international data, especially on that Tokyo map.  I still have a trick or two I haven't implemented yet that may define where the rivers/canals are supposed to go.  As for the diagonal harbor, that's due to the lousy data as most coastlines from international data seems to have this issue.

I hope my explanation is understandable as I'm not so articulate with attempting to explain things....never has been my strong suit.....chalk that up to a lousy educational system I had to suffer through a couple to three decades ago &mmm

deathtopumpkins:  The largest map my pc can handle is a 16x16 large tile map, anything larger will either not load or locks up the computer, even with and empty plugins folder.

Wow, I think that is amazingly close to what he wanted and you already have it. Sure wish we could get better international data, the extra work on these international maps make life tough.  &Thk/(

Blade2k5: I perfectly understand you, the issue with the lousy DEM data.
Well, not how it exactly works but that it's not acurate enough to get all the rivers and canals to be actualy deep enough to get water.

I take it there no option to "zoom" to get the same area compressed on 6x4?
Well even if it was possible it probbably means it gets even less acurate as in smaller rivers etc.
Rotating is not an option either I guess?

Sorry for taking up your time with these questions.   :)

I'll try to explain the difference between the USGS data vs. the international data.  The USGS offers 1 arc, 1/3 arc and some 1/9 arc data while the international DEM data is only offered at 3 arc.  What that means is the lower the arc number, the better the data.

There is an option to zoom in or out, the further out you zoom, the larger the area you cover and the larger the map, the closer in you zoom, the smaller the area you cover and the smaller the map is.
