Which China Maps Would You Like To See Released

Fuzhou
Ningdai
Shantou
Zhao'an North

papab2000

I checked the Butte map and yes it does show up in the TF as white & gray but that is because of the elevation. I checked the elevations and they are correct so the map is fine. You have to realize that there are colors for elevations and over a certain elevation you get white. There is nothing to be concerned about.  Both blade & I check all our maps to make sure they are as accurate as possible.  :)  If for some reason we alter the elevation it will be in the readme, otherwise the elevations are set to the DEM data.  ;)

Thanks M   I think papab2000 may have hit on the head last night in the post above yours.  If that's the case, then everything is fine and there is no problem.

p.s. are you planning to make more of australia? cause id be ever so grateful if you made brisbane or melbourne  ;D
so thanks for all the help and i think i might get some pictures of the maps i am having trouble with to see if im just a noob and just making a stupid mistake which is probably what it is  :P

blade2k5

You're welcome.  And yes, the wonderful and unique Land Down Under is on our list, I have the entire continent's DEM dl'd.....just have several dozen US maps to upload first, then we'll begin uploading our international maps.  Right now, I'm finishing up the south-east coast of China, all major points in Japan [minus Tokyo], Rio and few other places along Brazil's coast, major points in Ireland, Scotland and England, nearly all of New Zealand, papab2000 finished up the 14 South Pacific Island maps for me and finally a few really cool looking maps from Greece, including of course Athens and Mt. Olimbos [that how it was spelled in my world atlas   I'm assuming that's Mt Olympus ()what()].  I have a couple of requests for some Italy maps, and few other places in Europe that need to get made first, then I'll begin working on Australia

Blade2k5: WOW! Lovely new maps of China and Greece!

Whoa! Those Chinese maps are impressive! They're just the terrain for me, so I see my next doodle regions in the making!

Fatsuhono - Thanks.  I'm glad you liked them. ;D

Heblem - Thanks Hebs.  If it wasn't for you, none of these maps would have been possible. ;D

deathtopumpkins - Thanks.  Ever since beskhu3epnm and I did the Dahu map [available on the STEX] nearly 2 years ago, I've been itching to do more.  I just love how China's coastline is so intricate and mountainous, with just enough flatter areas to develop.  Which of the 5 posted is your favorite?  Mine is the Ningdai map, reminds me a lot of the Dahu map.

Hmmm... probably either Fuzhou or Ningdai. I could actually care less about having developable land though!  :D I just need my mountains and rivers to get across, and I'm happy. Now room for a million-sim metropolis doesn't hurt either...  ;) Anyway, looking forward to a release.

Wow! These came out awesome....  &apls I want to play them to.

Not only did I finish up the 14 South Pacific maps but I have 45 more miscellaneous Islands from around the world almost done.  ???  I don't know how we are going to upload all these maps?  %wrd I think we have enough to upload for the next 5 years now :D and so many more in the works.  ;)

It makes blade & I very happy that you all like the maps.  :)

Excellent work! And massive too! You have cornered the map "market", lol!

How about expanding the Greece pack a little? The area I would be interested in is Thessaloniki. I have made the greater region, but it's 8-bit, and the map is not accuarately scaled, it's ca 6:1 (90m data used w/o scaling/interpolation, ie 90:16). I think a good shot would be a rectangle like (40°45'13"N,22°41'00"E)-(40°27'30"N,23°04'12"E); this should be a 8x8 region (you may move the coordinates a little, for a better/more convenient fit).

Some challenges are:
- Some elevations are slightly below sea level. Ideally these should be slightly above water level in the map (using the lower terrain tool once or twice should turn them to water).
- Rivers may be a bit tricky to make, as they are shallow, and there is usually a recession or channel around them, making it hard to distignuish between water and land.
- Water around the river deltas is shallow, but it deepens some distance away (do you really use bythometric data for the maps?).

So I think the erosion strenght should be set to zero, otherwise too much land would be lost to sea.

I have some questions too:
- Can maps made with the Terraformer/Mapper be cropped?
- Can someone change the config.bmp (before importing the map).
- Would you mind if I ask you to reveal the source of the map's data (i used data from cgiar.org for my map).

I would be glad to test this map before release.

EDIT: And Mt Olimbos should indeed better spelled Mt Olympus in English (the former is a poorly transliterated form).

Cogeo - Thessaloniki is already done [accurately scaled for elevation and not size], I just haven't rendered it yet   It's a 9x6 lrg tile map   As for changing the config before importation into sc4tf, I don't know if that can be done because I've never tried.  I'm a lrg city tile developer so naturally, I config the maps to my tastes  :)  and it takes a lot less time to render.

As for the names I pulled from my atlas, what about the others?  Are those the proper English way of spelling them?  Also, which other areas of Greece would you like to be mapped?  I was thinking of adding Delphi to the list and some of the remaining Isles scattered about the Aegean Sea, but other than that, I do not know Greece that well.

Arthur - Thanks.  I like the Greece maps, I used to be really into the Greek mythology when I was younger and still am, just not as intensely I was then.

Rich - Thanks Bud  Also, you need to let me know which Islands you have done so we don't double up on them.  In fact, I need to know which areas around the world you've done.
