Is it possible to redraw a modelfile out of a dat?

I was wondering since I redo a lot of Lots, if it is possible to recuperate a modelfile from a datfile. The datfile always includes the original lot and when I redo the lot, which I have no problem with, the original lotfile is always there because of the datfile. If I delete the datfile then the modelfile is gone, which I need for the BAT to show up on the lot. So, is there a way to keep my Lotfile with the model without keeping the original Lot?

Thanks
mrbisonm ;)
Ps: Not sure where to put this thread..........

If it is for your personal use then the simplest thing would be to remove the exemplars for the original lot file from the dat. It is possible to remove the model file but that isn't quite as easy as you would need to copy all the individual files for the model to a new dat file.
If it is to post to an exchange then you would have to point to the original as a dependency anyway so there is not much point in doing it.

Yes, it is for personal use only, I wanted to change the groundtexture files on a certain lot for my game but without keeping the original lot. So I have to copy every exemplars into a new file?
Well, that sounds too difficult for me. Thanks for the info.

Never really knew how that functions, ripplejet. Now, I did try it, clicked on the «save» and it created a .lotfile in my pluginsfolder. Hm......It didn't change the .datfile. Now I still have two lots of the same BAT, one with the new textures and one with the old. If I get rid of the .datfile ,then the BAT is gone and a box appears in my new file.......
Ain't that easy, right?...lol
I cannot see what I did wrong. Thanks

:D Yes, Fred!
And I noticed that myself (after consulting someone else...), which is why I deleted my respons. ::)
And now you replied to it! $%Grinno$%

Which is the dat file you want to relot? Maybe I could help you with removing the lot exemplar from it? :)

RebaLynnTS

Is the texture the only change you want to make?

For some reason virtually all dat files that op4 has made contains everything doubled. ()what()
The model, the building exemplar and the lot are all appearing twice in that dat file.

Stripping it down reduced the file size from 1,793 kB to 897 kB, split up into two files:

BLaM Barneys Lamp and Match Factory.SC4Model
856 kB
BLaM Barneys Lamp and Match Factory.SC4Lot
41 kB

You have received these files in your mailbox, Fred!

Wow, thanks RippleJet, that is nice of you. Only one thing.....what mailbox?......lol
I didn't see anything in my message folder here and my hotmail doesn't work, so if you would please attach it to my PM at Simtrop , it would be appreciated, unless it is somewhere else I don't know of..?... ;)
Edit: Forget what I said above. I found it in my regular e-mail. Thanks again, that is wonderful. Can I call you up if I have another one?....lol....without becoming a pain in the ***. ;)

Thanks and I owe you one........

Let me also thank Barby for being "someone else"!
When it comes to lotting, there's no better backup force to have than her! ()flower()

Hey Tage and Fred I hope its OK for me to jump on in here for a moment and for me to say that I will point that error out to Mike as I don't even know why that is happening lol.... It could be a simple whooopsie that is why it was packaged that way or _________???

Could there be anther problem that causes the DAT to double stuff up,  IE using something other then the DAT Packer? also Fred if I may add is that Devo is a wonderful place and great folks too!!!!!

Hi Pat
Reader or SC4Tools don't check for duplicate inside a .dat
So if you 'Copy/paste' entries in Reader for example, and you hit 'paste' 2 times, you'll have the files doubled
An easy way to get rid of them in Reader is to :
click on the 'Type' column , then 'Group' column, then 'Instance' column, this will sort entries by TGI
then you'll easy see that you have duplicates, select them and delete/reindex and rebuild dir
[shamelessplug]Or you can use DatPacker[/shamelessplug]

LoL Wou thank you and no that is not a shameless plug at all  :D
