Geesh Casper you revive this MD and in less than a week your back to OSITM!  I'm jealous, but congrats!  ;)

Your last pic looks a little dirty; but I agree completely.  Get rid of that street RR crossing!

Best,
-Haljackey

Casper- hey!  Big 'grats on the Portfolio being OSITM.  Work like this really deserves getting some visibility, and I'm sure you'll make the most of it.  You'll be happy to know that the FARR is about halfway retextured, and should be in beta form pretty quickly now.  We should also talk about those caternary stanchions around the FARR curves- I bet we could do something about the gaps.

Really fine work here!

Well then, I am absolutely amazed to be in this, dare I say it, pretty exclusive, category within the Mayor Diaries. I would like to thank the SC4D Staff in general and the Mayor Diary Staff in particular for this opportunity  ()stsfd()

Pat: Thank you, I'm a big fan of the fences and the ponds as well. I'm glad you like the medals as well. I'll do my best this month!
art128: Thanks for these very kind comments, the bronze medal is certainly deserved.  :) The pedestrian overpass is coming up soon.
nerdly_dood: Good to hear you are enjoying it, and congrats on the silver medal!
Schulmanator: Thank you, more prices are coming! Congrats again!
Sheep49: Thanks for your continuing support!
Maarten: You want it, you get it!
Bat: Thanks alot!
Thundercrack83: Thanks for bringing the good news, I'll try to make the best of it!
Joe: Thanks for that kind reply!
JMouse: Thank you, I hope you enjoy yourself!
Simpson: Thanks a lot!
Rooker1: Thanks a ton again, I hope I won't disappoint you.
Haljackey: Thank you!
David (Dedgren): Thanks alot, I've seen the re texturing and I'm loving it already. I assume a T21'ed approach to the caternaries-on-FARR (as an additional plugin, so that people who don't use catenaries don't have them on the curves) is possible, but it would probably require some re rendering or editing in the Reader to make them fit to the angles.

Update 6: Follow-a-Sim - Part 1
I've decided to step out from my ordinary and pretty boring, updates for a little while, as some sort of special for the OSITM-Award. We will be following one of Highsbury Groves inhabitants, John Peters, who is a Railroad Engineer (Train Driver)

John lives in an old, 19th Century House in one of the numerous subdivisions in Highsbury. He's the richest guy of the block, he enriched himself with gambling, and thus has the house with the largest lawn, shown in the top left-hand corner of the picture.

He drove off to his job and was now approaching the railway embankment, on which one of his colleges was now driving T-2145.

He continued driving straight, and was now driving through another subdivision. He used this route only when he had to bring his kids to school, and that was also his job today.

John turned left onto the avenue, ignoring that the spotlight was red.

He then approached one of Highsbury's famous Upgraded Avenues, with their infamous Roundabouts. He decided to turn right onto one of the additional lanes, because he heard that huge traffic pileups were starting near the planned A1.

One of the at-least equally infamous intersections were those that were elevated, and incidents with cars slipping and falling off the overpass weren't really rare. John drove up the overpass and turned left onto the avenue, that he would just follow to end up...

at the Ricksman Highschool, famous for something (cfr. Update 1) that he didn't want his kids to know yet. He drove upto the parking lot, dropped the kids off and continued to Highsbury Central Station, where he was scheduled to conduct Train 0578.

On his way there, he passed two main hotels in Highsbury, completed hired for the 200th Reply & OSITM Celebrations. John stopped and decided to buy two tickets for this evening.

After driving for nearly three-quarters of an hour, he finally arrived at his favorite station.

Due too having to buy the tickets, he was a little late and drove off T-0578 onto the main interchange close to the station right away.

By now, it was 1 PM...

The continuation of the story will be here as soon as possible, but I assume that it will be in the weekend. Comment away!

Hey Casper

first off: great update

second: here goes my first attempt at being critical :D

Quote

that's a great idea for an under/overpass.
<rant>but the "swap lane" bits are a bit sharp, I dont know/cant remember but can you do a diagonal owr zigzag between the in and out lanes?
also the upper down-ramp and the lower up-ramp dont actually connect to the upper avenue LOL, and would it be possible to make the lower avenue sunken ... (nope, just answered that myself :D, its obviously impossible due to size constraints... boo)
That rail crossing has too many gantries on the diagonal imo </rant>

And (even if I say so myself) the story element is a great idea ;D :P

also, whats in the bottom left corner of this pic:

it looks very interesting :) lol

well done on the view count :)

Joe

ps: long post in new keyboard layout (dvorak) is time consuming :D

Congrats on the OSITM Casper.

And a very nice update.  Those suburbs look real nice - they have a sense of unifromity about them that is often found in RL.

Nice story of a sim  &apls! And wonderfull pictures of your city.

Teaser: A1 Construction Begins

Anyone remember this from Update 2?

While the original drawings had set for a 12-lane setup, the City Council has now declined that plan as being too noisy, and gossips say also too expensive, but that's unconfirmed. There is a vote going on at the moment whether it will become a 6- (3x2) or 8-lane (2x4) setup, it is somewhat certain that it will become a 6-lane highway, with additional sound barriers added to it. It will feature no on-grade intersections in the original plan, but thoughts are rising about the cost that that would bring, so maybe even some on-grades will be implemented. Further on, development within 80 meters (5 tiles), starting from the sound barriers, will be limited to commercial or industrial types only. This means that even more inhabitants will have to leave there homes, and thus the Government has decided to erect a large new housing project for those who lost their homes in the construction. The crews are now trying to create the railway viaduct again as soon as possible, as the whole rail network is suffering badly from the two parallel lines that can not be used at the moment (or trains would crash into the construction site...). Not too lose too many money, the Highsbury Rail Corporation has now implemented a Tourist Train that drives you to the end of the viaduct, and gives you 30 minutes to observe the construction before returning.

Great work.
I never thought for a moment that you would dissapoint me, you definately haven't yet.  ()stsfd()
In your teaser pic before, there is a puzzle piece for the avenue with both ends open.  How come you didn't use it?  ::)
Anyways....all else is very well done and I await your next update.

Great update Casper!  I really enjoyed the tour of Highsbury Grove.  The teaser has certainly got me waiting for the next update.  Oh... and the Highsbury Rail Corporation's plan to profit from the construction site is just brilliant!  :D

Always looking great here Casper!  I can't wait to see the finished product!   &dance

Alright!  A construction zone!  This is fantastic stuff you have here, Casper.  These past couple updates of Highsbury Grove look fantastic as well.  The neighborhoods look great (I see you're a fan of c.p.'s 19th Century stuff, too :)) and that Rail junction is very creative.

I can't wait to see what happens with the A1!

nerdly_dood

You can turn the little thingy where people drive from the avenue to the one-way roads on the sides by making a 4-tile-long half avenue (using rail), then connecting the one-way roads to the ends, and dragging a diagonal one-way road from the  main avenue to the 1-tile-wide half-avenue, making sure that it matches up properly with the 2 remaining tiles of half-avenue.
My days here are numbered. It's been great and I've had a lot of fun, but I've moved on to bigger and better things.
