Wow, that was quite some change!
I like the new green convention center very much indeed.
As for RL bulldozing I believe there is room for it in most cities, in Stockholm, sweden where I live the county officials decided back in the 50-60s to demolish nearly the whole city center and rebuild it concrete style.
Today some of them has publically said that they regret their decision, but now it´s kind of late to apologize, so the current officials are trying to do the best of the situation by refurbishing the concrete buildings and adding more glass to some of them.
There seems to be no stopping the creativity sometimes, but recently there has been some hope as a large ugly parking garage amptly named the elephant has been partly demolished and rebuilt with new apartments looking like rowhouses on the roof.
So I guess the saying about the RL always surpassing the imagination is true...

The new courthouse and convention center are fantastic. I especially like that convention center. Excellent work Zack.

My new MD. Check it out if you wish.

Adrian, I miss you man.

976: Thanks! I'm glad my search for the right building turned out so well.

Battlecat: Thank you, my friend! Regarding the modding, I couldn't have done with anything less. If it doesn't work for you as-is, you can always make it work!

djvandrake: Thanks! I really do love the way this BAT looks. St. Louis, you say? Hmm, that might be more difficult than I thought (no offense intended). I'll have to take a look at what needs fixing.

Swesim: Thank you! I'm sure every major city has some areas that ought to be bulldozed and rebuilt. It's unfortunate that the officials in Stockholm chose to build such unattractive buildings (even though they were in fashion back in those days), but their present-day successors can always replace them with something more postmodern. Thanks for stopping by!

Geoff (calibanX): Thank you, Geoff! I'm glad you like the new buildings.

Jordan (canyonjumper): Thanks! I hope you'll continue to enjoy this MD as it progresses.

Alex (Driftmaster07): It really is lovely, isn't it? Thanks for commenting!

Daniel (danielcote): Thank you, Daniel!

After the last land reclamation project, I figured there would be plenty of room for businesses and residents to build on Hunters Island. But what did I find one morning when I opened up my Sentinel?

It seems there's just no pleasing some people. Nevertheless, that professor's comments gave me an idea. When I got to work that day, I started drawing up plans for a modest new land reclamation project.

It really would be a small project - only six blocks of new land. However, I was sure that any amount of new land would be welcome news to the business community. After the usual environmental impact process was complete and the project approved, work began in the summer of 2407.

The first thing that had to be done was the construction of seawalls along the edge of the future extension. Once part of the old boardwalk was cleared away, construction crews set to work.

Down near the end of 8th Street, the same thing was happening.

By October, the two seawalls had met in the middle, and work could begin on actually filling in the land.

Once again, the workers started near the north end of the fill site...

...and at the south end as well...

...and met in the middle. By February 2408, the land was fully reclaimed.

That spring, crews worked hard to complete the new land's infrastructure. They finished by July.

With the infrastructure in place, the boardwalk extended and the ferry and cruise ship terminals rebuilt, businesses wasted no time in buying up the new land. In just a few short months, most of the waterfront property was taken and being built on.

By August 2409, many of the new buildings were open for business. Only a few were still under construction.

When 2410 arrived, the project was nearing completion. Only a little land was still empty. Meanwhile, my attention was focused elsewhere, on an even bigger project...

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

Nyhaven, the City of Building Large Projects That Somehow Don't Land Them in Debt!

It's amazing how much Nyhaven is growing.

Swesim

Interesting update as usual, however the Maxis cruiseterminal looks a bit out of place compared to the OWW2 lots.
Keep up the good work!

Battlecat

Very nice indeed!  Very methodical approach, and about the scale most cities can afford!  Any further out and the water usually gets too deep for it to be economical!  Love the new buildings, a great diversity of towers went up there!

Looking forward to this bigger project you've got in the works!

danielcote

Great expansion! It looks like you needed it seeing how high density it is.

Fantastic work, woodb3kmaster! You have some excellent "under construction" shots... Great work on the Reclaimation.

Havva good one,

I really should post here more.::)

Excellent work on the land reclamation project! &apls  &apls  &apls

and I'm looking forward to seeing what the bigger project is! A highway? A tunnel?

Ryan
Sendona... Coming soon!

djvandrake

A terrific expansion project.  Such a wonderful collection of buildings you have and it's really first rate work!  &apls

The bridge in close proximity really adds nicely to the skyline.

Oh, and don't worry about St. Louis, it's beyond fixing in many ways.  And, I'm moving to California next week.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

KoV Liberty

I like it! I see there are more non-maxis buildings due to your mod. ;D Very nice!

Jordan (canyonjumper): Thank you, Jordan! You'll get to see a little teaser for that big project today; I hope you like it!

emgmod: Heh, I suppose so. Nyhaven really is flush with cash these days; the quad containing downtown has something like a $180K monthly net profit, and I can't get rid of all that money nearly quickly enough. Thanks for commenting!

Swesim: Thank you! I suppose the Maxis cruise terminal isn't the best fit with Peg's OWW2 set, but I'm not aware of a replacement that would fit better there. It also serves as a convenient opportunity to change seawall styles, which I needed to do anyway.

Battlecat: Thanks, my friend! There always needs to be a method to the proverbial madness of projects like this one, I think, so I'm glad you liked the process I followed. You're right about the size of the project being just right, although it's possible that the river isn't that deep in that area; I'll have to do a little research to see.

Daniel (danielcote): Thank you, Daniel! This project was defintely needed, and you're right that the size of the buildings on the new land is a good indocator of that need.

976: Thanks! Come back soon!

scott1964: Thank you!

Adrian (adroman): Thanks, my friend! If you liked those construction shots, just wait until you see what I'm putting together for the next project!

Ryan (carkid1998): Thank you, and no worries about how often you post - we're all busy at times! I think you'll be surprised at what the big project turns out to be, but keep reading for a little preview!

djvandrake: Thanks so much! I agree that the bridge adds to the appeal of the skyline in that area; good-looking bridges often do, I think. LOL @ St. Louis, and welcome to the land of perpetual sunshine! (Unless you're moving to Northern California, at least...)

Alex (Driftmaster07): Thank you, Alex! Yes, that Maxis-blocker is really helping to make new developments like this one look so much better. I'm glad you like the way it looks!

Well, I thought I'd take a little break from my birthday celebrations to give you all a little preview of that big project I hinted at last update. I gave a small clue in the newspaper article as to what it would be, but now you have a chance to see what's coming:

This is my first non-experimental BAT, but it's only the first in a series of BATs that will showcase the construction of this new building. It may take a while to complete all eight (!!) versions of this building that I plan to create, in which case I'll have to push the next update back for a while until they're all rendered and lotted, but I really hope to have them all ready in time for New Year's Eve, when my schedule would have me post the next update. If you want to see this building as it evolves without waiting for the next update, stop by my BAT thread sometime and tell me what you think about my progress.

That does it for today. Merry Christmas, and if I don't get the chance to post here again before the end of the year, happy 2010!

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

hmmm. So a mall. That definitely is a big project. I can't wait to see how this turns out, and how you incorporate it into Nyhaven :D

Quote from: The NewspaperOption two is to allow construction of taller office buildings, if not to build one outright.
Since I already know quite a bit about this tower, I should be quiet right now.
