Raphael (RickD): Thank you, Raphael! If you want a hint about the secret project, have a look at one of dobdriver's recent LEX uploads. My most recent thread in the "Where can I find this?" forum should also help. ;)

Woohoo! I was drooling about this map when I saw it on the lex. It is one of the best I've ever seen.

Two fantastic new updates. Great work on the highway and beautiful city.

Noah (noahclem): Thank you, Noah! A lot of the NAM Team's early, pre-RHW work was very helpful in making what you see of the R-50 possible, and I'm optimistic that as the RHW becomes more flexible, I'll be able to do all the same things with it as I've done using the MHW and OWRs. Thanks for giving my music a listen, too. :)
Houstonkid: Yeah, it seems to have disappeared altogether. What a shame.
Raphael (RickD): It's terrific, isn't it? You're about to see parts of it up close (and much more of it when I reveal my secret project)!
bat: Thanks, my friend!

I still have a lot of work to do before I can post the last part of our excursion along the R-50 highway, so to keep things moving around here, I thought I'd share a few pictures of something you rarely see here in Nyhaven - nature! This is one aspect of SC4 that I don't have a lot of experience in making, but thanks to all the wonderful MDs out there with really fantastic natural scenery, I think I'm off to a good start. These pictures are my first experiments with a wide range of MMPs in a new (but still somewhat familiar ;) ) region.

This is the first region in which I've used seasonal MMPs. This region is in a part of the world dominated by evergreen trees, so I've kept the seasonal trees close to the river.

My first attempt at a ford. So far, the region is nothing but unspoiled nature, so there are no roads or trails crossing the river here, but once I start developing the region, that'll change.

I plopped a couple of rockslides in this gorge and tried to make them look realistic by not planting large trees between them and the cliffs. They aren't extremely recent slides, so there a couple of young trees that have sprung up recently.

Finally, here's a WIP scene, dated to 1580. I hadn't yet downloaded any MMP boats or people when I set this scene up, but that'll change next time I enter this quad.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

Nice work with the natural scenes and seasonal MMPs  &apls

For most of the time I've played SC4 I wasn't much interested in nature or MMPing. That started to change with Girafe's trees, the VIP rural set, and the discovery of seasonal MMPing--and since my initial experiments I've gotten hooked  ;D  Have fun continuing with them and I look forward to more

Great views of the river and nice shot of the ship and boats.

Noah (noahclem): Thanks, Noah! It's certainly true that the seasonal MMPs released over the past few months have made a big difference in my interest in designing nature scenes. I appreciate the encouragement, and keep up with the great work over in Siilijoki!
nbvc: Thank you!
bat: Thanks, bat!

After much delay, it's time to wrap up our journey along the R-50 freeway! This last leg of our excursion will take us through Astoria all the way to the Pacific coast. Let's get started, shall we?

Just outside Kendall's suburbs lies the town of Svensen. It's not much to look at, but this small town is the last stop before we enter Astoria's sphere of influence. The former, at-grade course of the R-50 splits off from the modern freeway outside the town, while this diamond interchange provides access to Svensen's commercial areas. It looks like Burger King almost has a monopoly on the local fast food market!

Closer to Astoria, we come across the R-50's interchange with the R-301, Astoria's beltway. To the north, the R-301 gives access to the Tongue Point Naval Base and the Astoria Shipyards before ending near the Financial District. To the south, it is a bypass route between the R-50 and the R-1.

Near central Astoria, the R-50 merges with the R-1 at this interchange. It continues to the south, multiplexed with the R-1, out of the central area. The R-1, meanwhile, dives underground further west to pass under the most historic parts of the city and resurfaces in the middle of the Columbia River estuary as part of the Astoria-Megler Bridge-Tunnel.

The R-50 splits off from the R-1 again at this interchange and heads west (toward the bottom of the image).

Passing through the suburb of Miles Crossing, the R-50 skirts Adventure Forest, the largest amusement park in the state of Pacifica (only its parking lot is visible above). A large parclo at Miles Avenue gives motorists easy access to the park.

West of Adventure Forest, the R-50 meets Gray Parkway at this diamond, my first experiment with the FAD-44 puzzle piece introduced in RHW 5.0. It makes even diamonds look pretty!

Eventually, the R-50 reaches Astoria International Airport, where its eastbound lanes cross over the westbound lanes to make the highway left-handed as it passes the terminal buildings.

This setup lets cars stop in the right lane to drop off and pick up passengers at the central terminal building, which is connected by underground walkways to the satellite concourses.

Finally, the R-50 downgrades to a pair of surface streets in the beach town of Clatsop Station. These streets (Center and Broad Streets) then end at Pacific Way, the road next to the beach. At long last, the R-50 reaches its western terminus!

This horizontal mosaic shows an overview of the R-50's course as we've followed it; each number marks the place where the corresponding picture was taken. (The uneven terrain colors are due to my not having re-saved some of the quads after installing the Olympic Terrain Mod.)

Nice work with that update. The RHW interchanges are wonderful. I also liked a lot the city on the last picture, with the highway Splitting into two avenues going to the beach side.
I'll take a quiet life... A handshake of carbon monoxide.

That's some awesome RHW work and more great pictures in general  &apls  And that horizontal mosaic is just crazy! Keep up the great work and thank you for the nice reply

Raphael (RickD): Thank you, Raphael! I'm glad you liked those interchanges.
Arthur (art128): Thanks, Arthur! Clatsop Station was kind of hastily put together to finish the update, so I'm pleased that you liked it.
Noah (noahclem): Thank you, Noah! It's always a pleasure to trade compliments with such a great MDer as you.

We return to Nyhaven proper today with a shorter excursion than usual. This time, we're following Eighth Avenue, which mostly runs down Hunters Island through Midtown and Uptown before ending in the northernmost reaches of the inner suburb of Cathlamet.

Eighth Avenue begins here at the Midtown Junction MetroRail station, where 15th Street turns sharply south to become Eighth.

A couple of blocks to the south, Eighth Ave passes under the R-50 viaduct and enters Midtown Nyhaven. The guideway carrying the Port and Puget lines of the MetroRail passes over the busy interchange here.

Between 20th and 30th Streets, Eighth Ave forms the backbone of the Midtown business district. A few of Midtown's many theaters are also located on Eighth.

Here're some more office towers at 25th St, along with a major television studio.

Further south, Eighth Ave turns southeast, paralleling the waterfront a few blocks to the west. This area is somewhat quieter than the chaos of Midtown to the north.

Eighth passes near the residential highrises of Uptown near its intersection with 35th Street. Uptown is one of Nyhaven's most expensive inner neighborhoods, and addresses here are among the most sought-after in town.

Eighth Avenue finally leaves Hunters Island just a few blocks north of the South Point Observation Tower.

On the other side of Elochoman Slough, Eighth enters Cathlamet and narrows to two lanes before ending on Royal University's Nyhaven campus.

Nice night images and also great airport from the last update.

Very nice update again.
I am saying this as an avid RHW fan: The elevated Maxis Highway is looking surprisingly good in a dense urban environment.

Very nice update  &apls  I really like the style, touring through one of the city's thoroughfares (also one of the things I like in general about Nyhaven). It would be great to see a map or region view to give it extra context.

A side question: how is Nyhaven pronounced? I always think of it the Finnish way like "Newhaven" but I suspect I'm a bit off ;)

Looking forward to more

Jmouse

Congratulations! Your work in Nyhaven is legendary, and for good reason. :)

Congratulations on your OSITM!  &apls  I look forward to seeing what you have planned for us

Congratulations on your third OSITM!   &apls

Your work speaks for itself as always, the latest updates are amazing as always!

Nice work in your last update.  I really liked the double height Elrail over the maxis highway.
A big congrats for a well deserved move into OSITM!!

nbvc: Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed those two updates.
Raphael (RickD): Thanks, Raphael! Yes, it's surprising how good the MHW can look in the right environment. Nevertheless, I look forward to replacing that one with an ERHW-8C one day.
Noah (noahclem) x2: Thank you, Noah! A map sounds like a great idea; I've gone too long without giving all of you some context for these excursions. As for how Nyhaven is pronounced, the way its pronunciation is written in the IPA is /ˈnaɪˌheɪvən/, which would probably best be spelled Naiheivn in Finnish. Thanks for the congratulations!
Joan (Jmouse): Thanks for giving me the opportunity to come back to OSITM, and for the compliments!
Gordon (Battlecat): Thank you, my friend! I hope this will be a very productive OSITM for me.
Robin (rooker1): Thanks, Robin! That's a very tight area where the el-rail crosses over the highway, and I'm glad you like how I handled it.

To start off my third OSITM, I'm showing you all something different: a completely new version of Nyhaven, which is still a WIP. While the version I've been showcasing for the past five years is still playable, it's gotten difficult to squeeze in new construction projects. In addition, I want to try building Nyhaven from its historical beginnings in what could best be called a modified form of natural growth. However, since I'm still waiting to receive one last mod before I begin working on the historic Nyhaven, I thought I'd give all of you a preview of what the modern city will look like. So, without further introduction, here's the first look at Nyhaven 3.0!

This first part of the new Nyhaven is Royal Square, the city's civic and transportation heart. Nyhaven Central Station (at the top) is right on the square, as are Old City Hall, the King Brandon II Royal Opera House, and the flagship department store of retailer Maison Blanc. Click on this picture to view it in full resolution (you can also use it as a desktop wallpaper if your screen resolution is 1920x1080).

Turning around to face the opera house, I can't help but admire the great job that xannepan did on this BAT's nightlighting.

Hmm, today seems to be a less busy day than I thought. Anyway, here's a wider day view to give a bit of context to the square.
