What Is MaxisSimCity4patcherx.cab

I reinstalled SC4DE and went to grab the update when this popup showed up. I googled it and it seems to show up in virus scans. I was wondering if anyone knows what exactly this thing does and if it is safe or not.

Isn't that the patcher utility to update to the different SKUs?

The Google results are mostly "HijackThis" (HJT) log files. The file you mention is safe.

I got a little freaked out when this came up because I don't remember it popping up before. So I should go ahead and install it?

Yes. it is OK. It has been around for at least 6 years without problems.

the anti-virus tool "a-squared" used to throw false postives for a maxis file (forget which one). It freaked me out but when i did some research it was only because it wasn't a registered file type with the engine and essentially was just a warning for a possible potential problem because it could not recognize the file structure. Could be the same sort of thing.

Its too bad that on searches like this with google that it seems to go out of its way to till you every thing what something isn't and never gets around to to telling you what it might be. Or is just me and I am always asking the wrong questions about something. If that's true I am very good at it.

I just can't seem to recall that showing up before when I first installed my game 3 years ago. Thanks for the reminders everyone.
