Rebuilding must be quite hard, I never tried, because of the angles are limited. so your decision is quite reasonable.

your first BAT looks ok, I would change wall textures though. The dimensions look good, too.

So I wish you good luck with your project.

That's great for a first lot. Looking forward to seeing more! :)

After a long reflection, I'm kind of leaning away from reconstructing the island as a whole.  A more doable option is to do small sections of the island (within one city tile).  I could focus on one area for a while, rotate it so it's doable in the game, and make it as close to real life as I can with terrain 'n paint, and custom BATs.  The areas I end up doing wouldn't be contiguous, so the region view would be a mess... but that's one sacrifice I'm willing to have.

I think that this is to better form of conduct the works, I liked your plan for the future updates!! As regards the BAT I think very cool!!!

Battlecat

Nice job on that little house.  I can't blame you for being frustrated, I don't think we'll ever be able to do perfect recreations in Simcity 4.  But even your best effort will be pretty cool.  At some point an homage to the reality would be pretty cool as well.  Good luck with your custom lots!

Congratulations, you are one BAT closer to making the entire island. As for recreating everything off the grid, the best thing you can do is to adapt as much as you can.

Don't worry everybody, I'm still here!  The tsunami that passed yesterday were more like rapid tidal surges.  I'm certainly glad that it wasn't destructive.  Although my home is less than a mile from the ocean, it's 15 meters above sea level and out of any tsunami evacation zone.  It's coincidental that I had written a paper on disaster planning a few weeks ago (about tsunamis) and the weekly topic of the TV program Island Insights on PBS was on disaster preparedness.  While I stayed at home, I had some time to catch up on school work and SimCity.  :)

The area I chose for this update is on the Leeward Coast of O'ahu, Farrington Highway to the south of Makua Valley.  It was relatively easy to make, taking about 2 hours from scratch on a new city tile.

The following real world photo was taken January 9, 2010.  It looks green because of recent rain, but this is the dry side of the island.

I found the equivalent shot in Google Street View.  I would guess this photo was taken in the first half of 2009.

Notice how much drier it is.  Though, that tree in the distance actually has green leaves compared to the same tree in my photo.  In the game, I went more for my photo because there aren't many yellow/dry color grass mayor mode flora available.

soulchaser:  Thank you very much for the first comment.   I have been trying to change the wall textures to cement blocks, but the texture keeps scaling to the entire wall instead of tiling.

BuildingUp:  Thank you and I have plans for more.  ;D

Tomas Neto:  Thanks, and yes, I think it is the best way to go.

Battlecat:  Thank you!  Playing the game (and not worrying about the tiniest of real world details) should be fun.   ;)

emgmod:  Heh, I would guess there's over half a million buildings on this island alone...

976:  Thanks!

Wow!  Right down to the rough trails and the rocky beach!  Based on those photos and the aerial image, you're continuing to capture these scenes perfectly!  I particularly like the way you've pushed the rocky details well out into the water and how effectively you're using the various grass textures available!  Always looking forward to seeing more!

Toichus Maximus

you've done some wonderful work here! This level of recreation is incredibly difficult to do. Great work and keep it up!

nedalezz

Very nicely done, the detail level is insane. The way you plopped the grass, even that single tree, the pathways. Bravo!

Connor

Fantastic work. That area looks great and you've captured the realism incredibly well.

That was a fun scare.

Wonderful job with landscaping that part of the island. What rocks are you using for the shoreline?

marsh

You have a HUGE project on your hands and your REALY trying to perfect this! Keep it up, it looks amazing!

Some very in depth detail here, sumwonyuno. Are you trying to recreate the island tile by tile? Such a daunting task you've taken up...
