Hi riiga,
often I´ve looked in Your thread, and everytime it was - some kind of breathing?
Maybe cause of the decent colours You use if You make pics from this nice little town, maybe cause I like this kind of more rural, little town developing and these awful overviews with all the soft curved dirttracks and Your realistic routing and configuration of streets and roads, all these "before - after" pics.
This is not SimCity, it is something You do with a tool named SC4, and this is the way I like it.
Keep it up,
greets, Carl

English translation: Thanks! I'm trying to recreate Sweden as much as possible, but since I wasn't born until the 90s I'll have to read up on much stuff. I find it very interesting though.

With increasing amounts of traffic, the need for an eastern by-pass has grown quite big. The National Road Administration has decided to fund the construction, but however the local farmers and family house owners near the planned route are opposing the construction. A typical case of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard). Therefore, I'll let you readers decide. I won't put up a proper poll, since I'd rather you write a comment with your opinion. Pick any viable combination of the route alternatives in the picture below, or you can of course oppose the proposal altogether!

metasmurf

Okay, here we go. I would go for a combination of Alt 1A and Alt 1 B, meaning essentially Alt 1A with a connection to the avenue. Then I would prolly go with alt 2A. Also, I would get rid of all junctions except for connections to the avenues, and the one way roundabout. Perhaps a connection could be made to the industrial area? The reasoning I had behind picking the alternatives was the benefit it would have for local traffic, as well as potential for future expansion further south, thus giving it even more potential usage.

io_bg

To me a combination of 1C and 2C sounds more reasonable. It'll leave some space for development between the existing city and the by-pass road itself.

I would agree with Metasmurf for the beginning (left-hand) side of the route but would suggest the alt2B route that doesn't go as close to the industrial development (allowing for future expansion there). I like both ends of alt2A, further right toward the suburban houses and the edge of town as well as further up towards the commie blocks. That commercial area there would certainly benefit from connection to the bypass but I think that train station would as well and it seems like that area is a potential sight for new residential growth that could make use of the bypass.

My recommendation would depend on how much growth you expect for the area and how much traffic you expect on the bypass. If you're planning a lot of growth in the area the outermost route might make the most sense.

Great view of your city by the way! It's nice to get the zoomed-out perspective

I would take 1C- 1B- 2C- 2A
Jag skulle ta 1C- 1B- 2C- 2A

I would suggest combination of 1A/1B and 2C:

This way there is room for expansions and don't get to close to the small lake next to the orange line.

At first, it seemed like 1B-2C would be the route to be built, but due to some last minute budget changes, half the project was put on hold and the only stretch to be built was 2A...

Byggnation av alternativ 2A
Construction on 2A

Due to the previously mentioned budget constraints an at-grade rail crossing was the only option. However, an overpass will be top priority during the coming years.

Some great updates and a lot of wonderful pictures of your beautiful city, riiga!

I Hope they get those fundings soon, a level crossing and the large shopping area closeby can make for severe congestions...

Actually this is not so far from real life though, where I live they are currently working on a big roadproject and guess what it is about?
It´s actually about building a big roundabout for the roadtraffic and then raising the local railroad over the roundabout... ;)
Also in the neighbouring municipality they are refurbishing and expanding the local mall and that also requires new solutions for the traffic to access the shopping centre.

Riiga´s update is therefore very close to real life I would say...

First of all I wish to apologize for being lazy and not posting updates.  :P

Due to the onging recession, it was decided to put more money into infrastructure despite the recent budget cuts. However, it wasn't the previously uncompleted part that was to be built, but rather a new motorway junction. A partial Y-interchange was chosen since there isn't enough space for a full interchange.

Den färdiga trafikplatsen - Trafikplats Vemstorp.
The finished interchange - Vemstorp Junction.

Nice updates riiga    I like the new interchange--aesthetically pleasing and realistic. Best of luck getting over the recession ;)
