I remember reading something veeeeeery recently about a relation between the usage of that cheat and whacked-out garbage production.

I think I read that setting the clock backward seemed to make that city produce as much garbage as possible, more than even an entire city tile of disposal facilities could handle (and actually more than the Garbage Graph can display I'm led to believe), until the date had reached naturally what it was immediately before the clock was set backward.
After that, you've still got to get rid of all this extra rubbish your city is quite literally buried in.

I can't for the life of me remember the thread though...

And this was exactly waht I wanted to use the cheat for. I just don't get it working.
Can someone tell me how to enter the values of the dates? I tried very hard lately but was not able to make the game change the date.

Let me quote from another thread:

SIMDATE format:

keyword - space - month - space - day-of-month - space - year

"SIMDATE 12 31 1999" will set in-game date to "1/1/00", and

"SIMDATE 1 1 2000" will set in-game date to "1/2/00"

There's a lot more to read in that thread as well. ;)

It may have been mentioned more than once. SC4BOY's post might have been the first one though: :)

In followup.. and I can only assume its caused by the "date change" experiment I did.. the garbage graph is "broken" permanently for that city tile.. weird. Those of you playing around with it might take warning from my situation. :) I have made no "mod" changes to the city otherwise. (Well I changed from one z simulator to a different one ...medium to high or something like that.. but I don't see any way that could have an effect.)

While it's been a while... May I say that the GOL cheat appears to be interactive? Clicking on a tile with no tool selected has the ability to bring that tile "back to life".

Neat.   I think this is actually a simulation on it's own.  Different patterns of green tiles either spawn or remove green tiles.  For example, sometimes a flashing diamond appears.  Clicking on the center of it will remove it, and clicking off the side of it will spawn wild patterns.  Looks a lot like SimLife.

Lowkee, I have to say I never imagined trying XYZ coordinates after the effect name  neat!
As for GOL, that calls forth a "SC4's Game of Life" (The original, "Conway's Game of Life" wiki article) simulation using the city tiles as a single cell. I don't know what it would be used for functionally in the game in the background, but possibly help add a little randomness to automata and zone growth?

Ah, certainly.

The green tiles don't seem to be effected by slope, otherwise it might be an interesting way to decide where to start a city.

Okay, where can I download this .dll modification from? This page http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2261 appears to have no download button/link/what have you.

Anyone know a place where I can certainly download this? Thanks.

is this building plop really working??? because when i put a commercial building, no people go there for jobs even though it increased the jobs in
"jobs & population" graph.

Zaphod

maybe they aren't commuting. plopping residential will do the same thing. That's just how it is. Its indispensible for making eye candy CJ's though.

Anyways, I remember when nobody seemed to care about this when buggi posted it on ST, and for the longest time you had to know exactly where to find it. Thank goodness it is now in two official locations on the net.

I don't think it's working.

I've tried the DrawPaths and it didn't work.

I just plopped some starterless pieces and wanted to double check before starting the game.

How would I go about troubleshooting?

Tarkus

I have mine sitting loose in the main My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins folder . . . that seems to do the trick for me.
