I like this project.  I think road and avenue crossings would be the best way to go.  That way it could be like many of the busways that can be found around the world. Like the south miami-dade busway down here.

some pictures of different busways around the world...

Just my 2 cents.

This is very interesting. I've never heard of such a thing. I would love to see this in simcity 4. One Question...How would cars be blocked from entering the busway? Would their only be bus paths on the tiles, or would blockers need to be used?

Came across this picture. Something like this (from Simutrans) would be great.

I think we'd have to block cars from entering the busway using a lot. (*cue shocked NAM people :P). Unless we can make a Bus-Only puzzle piecet then I'm not sure how to do it at all.

I think this is a fantastic idea.  As an traffic geek, I have often thought about, diagrammed, etc. dual mode transportation systems, and this seems like an excellent implementation of something like that.  It would be even cooler if the busses were coupled into trains.

All I ever saw of the busway in Miami was a separate road off to the side of highways starting just past the Dadeland Mall on US1, something that can be (and I have) implemented just with bus only tiles. What if you created a new set of road textures like done with the SAM, and re-textured a traffic blocker lot too? Combined with raiser lots (maybe new ones lower than the existing ones), that seems to be the easiest way to create some unique and differentiated busways in-game.

Some photos I took the other day of some buses in town (this is what the O-Bahn buses look like). I'm showing these in case anyone knows of a suitable model that could be used (and reskun), also as a resource in case Joel or anyone else decides to do said skinning, and well, just because.
