I installed Sim City Deluxe, the installer was in English, English is the only language folder in my /Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe folder, and in the registry the language is set to 01 (English).

However, the game is in Spanish. I can deal with it, but its kind of annoying. Could it be that my English .dat file is actually the Spanish one renamed?

We can't provide any support for illegal downloads, regardless if you purchased a legitimate copy or not.

I don't need any support for illegal downloads, I can handle that just fine. I need support with the language the game is installed in. I've been a member of this site for quite some time, so please don't pick at semantics, and don't respond if YOU don't wish to provide support.

I understand your problem, and I can imagine that it's rather annoying but that's no need to be rude

I honestly feel the same way towards Andreas. I have spent my money on this game, and I do not see any difference that it makes whether I spent an hour and a half driving to my house to grab the CD to bring it back and install it on my laptop (specially cause I have pneumonia right now), or whether I just took the convenient method. Either way EA would not be losing out on profits. I was only looking for some help, and not the type of response that Andreas gave, which is putting words in everybodies mouth. If they do not wish to provide support, then they should not respond. Thats all there is to it.

WC_EEND

Maybe a silly question: but have you already tried googling the problem?

I did. Thats how I found out about modifying the windows registry, but I then noticed that its already set to US english, which leaves me under the impression that the .dat file in the Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/English folder is actually the spanish .dat file. If its possible for something like that to occur (which is pretty much the question I'm asking) then I'll probably have to wait until I can get my legit copy and just write over the .dat file. However, if the game checks for that and wouldn't allow it to happen, and its something else, then I'm probably left with reinstalling.

Well, as far as I know the only way these can be changed is by manually changing and renaming the files. So I'm afraid you're stuck with spanish unless you find the English simcitylocale.dat somewhere

Now see if I asked for that, thats when Andreas response would be fitting :)
Opening that file now in a text reader, I can see that it is indeed the spanish version, and I have replaced it with the English copy thats on my second computer (which oddly enough is less than 1/2 the size of the Spanish one).

Thank you for your support :)
