do any of you have old in game pics from when you first started playing SC4? i would love to see old cities we onced built and compare them to how we build them now. i want to see if other players feel they have 'evolved' their building techniques.

anyone?

Well to be honest I have no pics from when I first started to play the game, but yes I'd say my style of play has changed over the years.  :D :D

If you take a look at the first pics I posted in Tales at Teatime and the latest update and I'm sure you can see a difference  :D :D

When I look back at some of my old pics, I'm surprised I actually thought I was good  :P

One of the first pics from my first CJ/MD I took in 2005, posted in 2007:

Now one of the latest shots from my second MD (Click on the pic for a full-size shot):

Well... I started to play this game in late 2008, so I'm not able to show you such old stuff like Dan did.
But I've taken some pictures from my old journals... :)

This is the oldest picture I've found (it was obviously used to ask a question about the dependencies): No realism... A industrial firm alongside some french W2W "blocks"?

Since I was not able to build good-looking cities by simply growing everything, I decided to start learning how to use the Lot Editor

Since that city was "broken" somehow, I made a new city which was loosely based on Berlin:

At some point, I realized that I was not able to build a city by just using the Lot Editor. This made me deleting my old Plugins-folder. I downloaded some important stuff from different sites and began building The Empire of Leviathan. By giving every building the status of a landmark after they were grown, I was able to build some nice-looking W2W-blocks.

Nowadays I try to become good at rural landscapes and small villages...

I hope it was not too boring..
Fabian ;)

canyonjumper

Nah, you weren't too boring :D

I've only been downloading CC since August, so my style hasn't changed much since then. I think the only difference is that I try to stay off the grid in suburbs.

Nice idea gking!

Do you mean the one in the last pic? If yes, it's a default Maxis Avenue bridge ;)

We are going to have to be more observant, never noticed it. We like also the building under construction and the tallest building across the avenue diagonally from it in the third pic. What are their names? Our hard drive deassimilated a year back and we lost all of our cities.  ()sad() Nothing like rebuilding with the new props, lots and mods.  :)

The first time I played the game was when I was just 13 years old back in 2003. My earliest cities mostly resided on Maxisland. I played this game for about 2 years, then I stopped for a while as it got boring.

One of my really first cities revisited (2003-2006)

My first successful city (part of a Metropolitan Area) revisited (2003-2006)

(Yeah, the buildings are obstructing the runway $%Grinno$%)

Of course back then, I never knew about the STEX nor the LEX. When I did discover this, I've been on and off the game. SC4 manages to glue me with new stuff coming in ;D. Ever since then, I've blocked Maxis stuff so that only Custom Content would only show.

The Metropolitan Area I was referring to

You can see that one part of the Metro is dominated with Custom Content as I was only starting to discover the STEX and the LEX. Since then, the ideas I've got from CJs and MDs taught me to make my cities less grid looking, which became much easier with later releases of the NAM.

Island Transformation (2008)

Recent city I've been working on (2010)

300... 200... 100... 50... 40... 30... 20... 10

Yep, I still got it.
