Title: Mods and Terrain Mods
Post by: finaltable on April 07, 2011, 06:34:54 PM
So I went through the LEX Disk and pick out what I wanted from it.  That last thing that I need to go through is the "Mods and Terrain Mods" folder.  As far as terrain and trees, I'm not that picky right now.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest to me what I could pick from this folder?  Meaning some of you might have came across something that looks cool and if you could suggest a group of files from this folder to start my game.  I really appreciate it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a good start, as to what to select from this folder?

Hey, FT

Well, my favorite is Missouri Breaks. But I see that a lot of folk favor Meadowshire when looking at the various MD's.

Pick one or the other but not both simultaneously.

A really good one is RVT Coastal Mod from August 2009 it does great things to the water and beaches.

So if anyone can take a look at this screen shot of  what I selected on Terrain Mods.  Please let me know if it will be ok to keep everything that I have selected.  Or if I should uncheck something that might cause a problem, or can I check anything else?.

The RVT Coastal Mod 2009 is on the Simtropolis.  There is a nice discussion here where it is talked about.  http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=8332.180

Palm to Aspen is kind of nice. It replaces the Maxis palm trees that grow along streets with a deciduous Aspen tree.

Terrain Essentials says it all ... if its essential then it's worth having

I like the save alarm. You'll get a message pop up about every 20 minutes asking if you wish to save the game. You can set it for a 30 minute reminder or not to bother you at all which one may want to do on occasions.

@ Kaylacey, Thanks for the reply... I will check it out.   Can I install that the RVT MOD and the Medowshire Terrain Mod at the SAME time?

@ jmyers2043, Thanks man...I like your ideas.  The save alarm is a good one.  At first I thought about that, and didn't want to put it in, but I have played this game like many people and had the occasional crash to the desktop and hadn't saved in the last 40 min and well you know the outcome.

Can I select everything you check with a red X and still keep everything that I selected?

I believe RVT Coastal mod is compatible with all terrain mods; you might want to check the readme files for it.  Some of the terrain mods include a dat file for the beaches, that is optional.  Again, check the readme files.  The RVT coastal mod has a lot of various ways to combine its different elements.

So I selected everything from below.  I loaded a region and started to plant some trees..and I got boxes.  Well it planted a few trees, but mostly boxes.  Can anyone look at the below picture and offer some advice.  I selected to install everything with a red X and a green check mark....

Which one or ones should I take out?

I figured it out.  If you look at the picture, I had another tree controller selected.  So I went in the folder and just moved it out.  Loaded the game back up and went to plant some trees.  No more boxes!

Ok well that worked for the God Mode.  However now I'm getting boxes again in the City/Mayor Mode.  I was trying to make a rural path and that was when I got the boxes again.  However I didn't get them when planting any trees.  Just the rural path.

Any suggestions?

Yea I think I still have one to many thing in my folder.  I just got another box, right in the middle of a road...hmmm.

I'm not sure I have the exact same DVD as you do as mine may be a beta version. In addition I copied the contents of the DVD to a USB drive. So the file structure (below picture) may look different than your picture above. Irregardless, you should have a read me the same as me.

Scan the read me to find its dependency section.

The reason you have a box is because you're missing a model (dependency0 somewhere some how. There is no other reason. The dependency files will be on your DVD.

Good Luck.

Well two things.  One I don't seem to have the problem with the trees anymore.  I took out one of the tree controllers and everything seems fine now.

My new problem is that I wanted to use Pegus dirt roads, but every time I start the roads, I end up with these yellow boxes under the roads, and I can't seem to connect the dirt roads to and paved roads.  Also there doesn't seem to be and options for turns, just straight pieces.  Amy I not looking in the correct place for dirt roads?

Do you know anything about that one?

Trees: Getting the tree controller working is defiantly a headache.  The reason things are fine with your pic is because those are the Maxis trees.  Jmyers' second pic shows the dependencies needed, so check twice.  I have a folder with just the tree dependencies, so I never have to go through that again.

The Streets:  The tiles that are white should be demolished.  You can start dragging from the other tile, though that tile can not turn.  Check out the SAM thread (Link (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=1617.0))

These streetlots are just "starterpieces". Once you have plopped them you just start dragging from one end of these for at least 5 or 6 tiles and then you can demolish the 1x2 starterlot with the white tile and continue dragging the rest of the needed street over it from the other end. Easy, just a matter of understanding and getting used to it. I use them all the time.

Little late to the game, but I've always had a preference for Cycledogg's Columbus Terrain Mod...since I live in the middle of a dry, arid area, the super-green of that mod is very appealing.  :)

Thanks you guys (MrBisonm and Lowkee33) for your help about the streets.  I'll have to try what you were talking about.

As for the the trees turning into boxes, though.  I still seem to have the problem.   I seem to only get the boxes on the trees that are on the streets.  This means that as you build roads, and the trees that come up on the sidewalks.  Them are the trees that turn to boxes.  Funny thing is if I select road and just run the road over the existing road,  it changes were the trees are in position in the sidewalk right?  Well then sometimes the boxes go away.  But still it is better to fix the problem than to always having to get ride of the boxes.

@ jmyers2043  I was going through my Lex Disk,  (to note I downloaded my copy) and I can't seem to find any read me files.  I looked at the files in my SC4 folder (my documents) and I looked on the Lex Disk file itself.  Nothing on on these for read me's?  ???

I noticed that you have SFBT Street Tree Modd checked off.  You do not have all it's dependencies.

Well not so much to late really.  I have decided to start this whole adventure all over again.  So I'll give a look at the C.C.T.M. and make a decision.   Lowkee33 has been a big help with advice.  Low you were correct about having to much stuff in the game, and how it's just not my fun going through everything.  It really does take the fun out of it.

With Dat Packer, I was able to load the game with-in 1:36 seconds, but still the enjoyment was gone by searching for what I wanted.  In my defense I was selecting things to install and accidentally selected "install all" and afterwards, thought to myself, let's see if I can't make this work.

Ideally it would and could work (on my machine) if there was a way to make a better menu for everything.  Although that is another thread.  I want to thank everyone here.  I have learned a lot from everyone's reply's.  Even if it has taken a few times to go over to understand.   This second time around should be much easier, and hopefully I can figure what caused the boxes on the sidewalks?

Thank you so much Robin!  Now the question begs, can I find those on the Lex web site or somewhere else?  If so do you know what dependencies I need?

I was understanding that anything I selected off the Lex Disk, had all the dependencies I need on it!

This is what I pulled from the documentation.

BSC MEGA Props - CP Vol01.dat
CPT_No8_TreeModelsPartOne.dat and CPT_No9_TreeModelsPartTwo.dat
PEG_MTP_RESOURCE_vol1.dat

So I'm assuming if I want the SFBT street Mod, then I need all of the above dependencies?

Yes, that's right and I'm going to assume that you have the first two.  For the last one, go to Peg's site and DL it there.

Do the first two come with the Lex Disk?  Meaning are they in the dependencies?

I went here.. http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=631 (http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=631)  but I there was no way to download them?

Edit... Nevermind, it was just an IE problem.  I opened the link in Google Chrome browser and the download button appear. Go figure.  ???

I'm assuming this is the file that is the first out of the three listed that I needed?  I installed the other two but found this one in my folder already so there doesn't seem to be a reason to install it from the site correct?

Just wanted to say thanks for everyones replies.  I figured out how to use the dirt roads and make them work, as well as so far, I seem to fixed the ugly brown boxes.  I got all of the dependencies, and I took out the files in my plugin folder, that I needed to.  This thread helped me a lot.

The two things that I have learned from all of this.

1.)  Read me's are very important.  They have such useful information on them.

2.)  Don't be afraid to work with the files and folders.  I was afraid I about messing things up, and I'm sure you can, but they can be fixed as well.  I started to move some things around and things worked better, and got the desired results.
