Title: A message to SimGoober
Post by: Ramona Brie on August 29, 2007, 06:26:01 PM
Right now, I have been wondering painstakingly about one thing and just realized another that is a pressing issue.

The first wonder is when will the Professional Center get the advertised plop? One was promised but never came. It might also be a good idea to just redo it with the same model on a different lot (CAMpatible, of course.)

The second pressing issue is something called the CAM. Today, we saw light in that you turned 33 lots into CAMpatible work. But that's only a slice of the pie, because you've got 10 times that. These CAM lots should also include formerly STEX- and PLEX-exclusive lots, given that the CAM is SC4DLEX-exclusive. That's something from 300 to 375 lots there. One question: do the 33 new CAMpatibles overwrite existing grown and plopped lots? If they do, I'll happily upgrade.

Thank you for listening,
Tracker

I think your queries relating to the CAMeLOTS will be better addressed by Barbyw as she CAMified them. :)

Tracker, read this thread by Barby: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=2211.0

You need to remove the old lots (by Cleanitol) before installing the CAMpatible ones ;)

Tracker, I shall be uploading the ploppable lots as the final upload of the commercials. I have made, specially for you, the plop version of the Professional Centre. There are not many CAM only lots in all of these commercials - and I am doing ALL of them - but they have been updated with stats via wou's X Tool. This means that the older ones will fit better into the Maxis standard as we have all learned a lot since SG posted hsi first BATs.

Are they the same IIDs? Do they overwrite the nonCAMpatible lots?

Also: that Prof Center was long overdue. Good model, but when SG redid his plop, it never went to STEX. Anywhere.

They are the same IIDs but for many the filename has been changed and also they now come in dats for quicker loading. They will not overwrite the lots as a result but lots in existing cities will not be affected. You will need to use the Cleanitol file to either remove the old stuff manually or through BSC CleanitolTM

Been running Cleanitol quadruple-overtime today to get all of this. Plus, they're CAMpatible!

P.S. When will the plops be uploaded? Will it be one download or several? I'd like to play, but these plops worry me that my biggest city ever (700K, Barby; what's your largest?) will crash. Also, the Prof Center plop is tantalizing my SimCity-custom-content-tastebuds.

The plops will be uploaded when they are ready. This has been a mammoth task and the plops are more difficult to sort out than the growables. You can be sure that they will not be uploaded until we are happy that they will all work properly although as few BSC use plops we cannot say if they will crash a city. Better take a back up before using any of these.
There are well over 100 lots excluding the Adult ones and they will be uploaded in one installer but as separate dats so you can delete any sets you do not want.
Patience and they will arrive eventually.

I fully understand the quality-first philosophy. I just can't wait for all these plops, especially that Prof Center one. Makes me wonder if I'll be able to be the first with the Prof Center plop lot...LEX Goddess, I hereby bow down to you. (I know how busy you are, keeping watch over a constantly growing "kingdom".)

A wonderful quote from one of my favourite authors, Terry Pratchett, when asked when a book was due to be out:
Quote
Well, they asked me in February, and I said it was coming out in November.
When they asked in March, I said it was coming out in November. In April I
pointed out that November, in fact, was going to be when the next book came
out. In May, when asked on many occasions about when Maskerade was coming
out, I said November. In November, it will be published. The same November
all the way through, too.
-- So Terry, when is 'Maskerade' coming out, then?

How many farms and industrials does SG have, anyway? It seems very low, especially in comparison to his commercial army of buildings.

Are the new packs CAMpatible? (the residentials)
Title: Re: A message to SimGoober

Yes they are CAMpatible, that is the point of the excercise.

Goober had a good collection of farms, and some industrials too, but not nearly as many as the commercials no.

Pat:  We kiwis are fiercly proud of our All Blacks, and if you get the chance to watch a game you should.  At their best they are nigh on unstoppable, and hopefully we will see that to the fullest extent in October.

Yep. I never intended for there to be a Hooters across from Camelot International Airport. But it happened yesterday after I reworked the SG department. Camelot has more history than largest city ever, you know. First Hooters ever in SimNation.

And Pratchett...All I can say is "Buggrit, millennium hand and shrimp".  If you've not read Pratchett, you're missing out on gems like this:

"The Assassin moved quietly from roof to roof until he was well away from the excitement around the Watch House. His movements could be called cat-like, except that he did not stop to spray urine up against things."

Some of Pratchett's own quotes as opposed to from his books are worthy of comment too:
QuoteAs far as I'm aware I'm not specifically banned anywhere in the USA, and
am rather depressed about it.  Surely some of you guys can do
*something?*

QuoteI'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when
there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.

QuoteIt gets worse.  I have, before now, waited for a pen to perform a macro.

And my favourite:
QuoteThat seems to point up a significant difference between Europeans and
Americans. A European says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with
me?" An American says: "I can't understand this, what's wrong with him?"

:D :D  LoL Derry and Lee you 2 are a riot.....

Tracker remember one thing for me please "patience is a virtue well earned"
"Waiting for one Professional Center plop"  is a tad bit overkill you think?
Barby is only one WOMAN workforce not WOMEN workforce... She is doing a
great justice for this communtiy by condesing all of SG greatest lots to one or
two files needed and not 50,60 or 100 items sitting in the plugins folder...

Im certain you understand the more you push an issue the longer it will be put on
the back burner, because it then takes away Barby's time to address you again
with probley the same response....  So anyways back off topic here i hope you and
everyone else has been having a sunny day!!!!!!

I think it might be difficult for him to do so, even if it is in the Growables (I'm not sure, I haven't checked). The LOTs are all packed into one DAT file and I think the difficulty might come in with extracting the DAT and then turning it into a ploppable. I don't know if Tracker knows how to.

So all that stands between me and the plop is packaging and readmes. Nice. At this rate, I think it'll be done by the weekend, which means I can play Camelot with this thing. (And go through the process of more buildings jumping stages; I have that much Goober stuff and plops.)

I'd doubt it. let's put it another way eh. The more you ask - the longer it will take.

There are lots of things that our Goddess has to do and unfortunately her time is limited  ( a bit like everybodies really) I understand its probably very important to you but please be patient my friend. it will arrive once barby can devote the time to make sure it is correct.

I understand. I'm satisfied, but I'm anxious. My SG plops will be one of the last things to get overhauled big. It will be nice to see the 50+ commercial plops from SG in Camelot go CAM and to see my long-awaited plop.

Quote50+ commercial plops from SG
And that is the root of the problem. Look at the number that have to be done, checked and double checked. You can be as anxious as you like but it won't hurry them.

All this anxiousness over game assets...you'll end up with an ulcer.

Tracker, please, please, please stop double posting and pestering.  We are not here to service you, as you are but one small voice (although getting annoyingly louder) in a large community.

after curiosity and peeping my head in this thread it seems like an episode of the Simpsons when they go on vacation and Bart and Lisa are like: "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" as for the lovely Goddess take your time make him wait longer. Release it when you know everything is A-OK!
