--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everybody,
After several years of happy downloading at the LEX and the STEX, i'm looking for something new. &idea So I decided to start modeling, this is my first attempt of BATting.
Because I love transport and infrastructure i'm going to focus on traffic BAT's. My first project will be a pack consisting of dutch
Variable Message Sign's. This is what I have created with Google Sketchup in the last 48 hours:
Roadside VMS Type 1:
http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7588/drip1yr5.jpg (http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7588/drip1yr5.jpg)
Roadside VMS Type 2:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5605/drip2qf7.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5605/drip2qf7.jpg)
//Maybee I make 2 versions one on and one off.
Next step is to render the models in GMAX, I hope GMAX willl render them proporly, I heard some creepy story's about compability between GMAX and Google Sketchup.
One little question for the pro's:
Is it possible to make the models dynamical? So that the appearance changes one's in a while. If so, are their any tutorials about that type of modeling.Greetz me ;D.
That's looking relly good,i like the details....but isn't it easyer to model it in gmax from the start???
GS and autoCAD (2d only) are the only programms I can work with so far, but i'm trying to learn GMAX aswel in the summer holidays.
It's possible to make dynamic screens using automatas, technically speaking. We've experimented with it a year ago on Big Dig VMS signs, but in the end, found that when scaled realistically at game's zoom-level, the VMS display screen is too small for any visible signage detail to be shown so felt that it was too much effort to bother.
Hey ehbk2006,
I see that your doing some dutch singage, and I like your models. They are quite detailed. Another thing: gMax isn't that hard to learn, so you can get started quickly! Can't wait to see more!
Best,
Maarten
Succes , preview renders from the BAT:

They look a bit different, due to the black background.
Looks very good!

Not sure I still count as 'one of the pros'; more semi-retired as far as SC4 is concerned, but to answer your query there is a way to get variable messages by using timed props or prop families. Just render your (very nice looking) signs with a variety of messages and at the lot-making stage you can either enable one sign to be chosen from all of them (this will appear permanently) or you can have a series of signs appear at different times through the year - the same way that seasonal trees work.

Hmm sounds interesting, time controlled props. Are there any tutorials about making seasonal trees or other type of time dependent LOTting?

Thanks.
Looks easy ;D, for a start i'm going to make 2 type's on and off.
looks like you figured out how to do the lighting. Looks nice
Yeay my first mod ::)

The sign is active between 5:00 and 23:00, at night it's turned of.
very nice! keep it up!
Hartstikke goed zeg, ehkb2006 !
It's great that you figured that out.
Excellent traffic bat ehbk2006 , I like it,go on.
Interessant man! En goed gedaan ook.
Interesting man! And well done too.

Thank you for all the kind replies.
And now for something completely different: A recreation of a billboard. (http://www.mcb.nl/smallcms/index.php?id=103)
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg253.imageshack.us%2Fimg253%2F4971%2Freclamemast1yu7.jpg&hash=a73a497897cb5d4ac8a5bf62697d12c0a604e90c)
(WIP)
If someone knows some nice typical reallife billboard adverts ( proportion 6 : 8,75 - there are 6 places, 3 for the winter season and 3 for the summer season), please post them here. And maybee your advert will show up in SC4 very soon.
ehbk2006
How about a typical Coca Cola add:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.trefpuntgroningen.nl%2Fwebsupermw%2Fimages%2Fcoca-cola.jpg&hash=ee7ae3f4c08692946105529e5fa5cc03b25c249e)
Or this old-styled one:
Hope this will help ;)
Maarten
Hmmm, yup Coke needs to be on it, and I think Marlboro ( the sigarettes).
looks nice again ;) As for an advert, how about McDonalds, KFC, Burger King as a fastfood chain, or Starbucks, KLM, Heineken ( :P) etc
(als de tentamens voorbij zijn wil ik je wel een keertje de kneepjes van 3dsmax/gmax bijbrengen)
I have an idea, what if you can make the billboard show road signs and place it on a lot that can be placed in the middle of an avenue roundabout?

I was thinking about making roundabout-filler lot's, with custom prop's and some nice flora.
The model i'm making now will be atleast 1*2 (due to the support beam), so it will be only usefull for the avenue version.
congrats on the ITC team joinage (baaad English :P)
looks awesome though!

Hello all,
I uploaded the VMS pack 1 on the STEX 48 hours ago, but it's still not online. ( ()what())
In the mean while I finished my billboard:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg115.imageshack.us%2Fimg115%2F539%2Freclamemast2qx5.jpg&hash=b82245f0dc7e841e1b625dec382c67e1f4c02905)
But I have a problem with the lighting, the Target Spot's will light the billboards but also as a negative side effect the inner core, in other words the light goes trough the billboards. How can I prevent this from happening?
Ps. I can't get acces to the textures, because they are applied in Sketchup.
Problem solved, thanks yoshi.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg53.imageshack.us%2Fimg53%2F5799%2Freclamemast2bgm2.jpg&hash=b5322f008c8e42fe79869daf1eed84f49866c625)
The STEX is kinda broken lately, no uploads have been working right.
I wasn't going to upload my cop cars today, anyway - I have to make readme files.
Release
VMS Pack 1:
STEX (http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=19999) (Offline --> STEX has issues.)
Use this mirror instead:
Mirror 2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?dqjnd0mumy4)
Can you post it on the BSC file exchange? Because when I went to download it off the STEX it said the file is locked for adminstrinative people only. Or can you e-mail me the file?
Download it from the mirror site
Glad I could help out with your problem! Keep the great BATs coming!

RHW Asphalt Texture Replacement Mod
by Shadow_Assassin July 11, 2007 9:12 AMUpdated: January 01, 2008
LOCKED ON 1/1/2008. A newer version will be available soon, due to compatibility differences with the new NAM.
An Asphalt texture replacement mod, this replaces the default RHW textures with new Euro-style asphalt textures. This file does not, in any way, alter the behaviour of the default RHW. Therefore the default RHW is required for this to work. The rules for dragging a RHW remain the same.

MCB Billboard
Almost ready for release, only some bug fixing and removing the base texture of the LOT:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg165.imageshack.us%2Fimg165%2F406%2Fbillboardzf8.jpg&hash=5fd57f0cf0cab24897c7b39ec548903b9f189695)
The billboard is time controlled, it changes 2 times a year.
VMS Pack 1 on the STEX
The STEX works fine again, therefore I uploaded it again. You can get it here:
http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=20049
Any comments and ratings are welcome.
Requests
If anyone has requests for the next project, please post them below. The request needs to be traffic related afcourse. Also additional documentation (drawings, pictures, dimensions) would be nice.
ehbk2006
You might want to consider some texture/colour improvemt for the billboards. That blue is a wee bit saturated, and has a "plastic" appearance. The colour should be less saturated and to my opinion darker too. Also set the Specular/Glossiness parameters more carefully.
Nightlighting could be improved too, consider adding a distant Omni at the side (not directly in front) and set the attenuation parameters so that the billboard lies between the near and far attenuation limits. This is good for emulating an "ambient" light effect.
I got a challenge... How about rendering these traffic lights as exemplars so they can go after the NAM left turning lane road and avenue intersections that the light actually changes red to green, maybe based on a timed prop rather than stop point?
Pole Height 12.807x0.32 radius
Arm Height 13.751x0.32 radius
5 headed traffic light 2.444x0.782
3 headed traffic light 1.541x0.782
Walk lights 4.32x4.32
(Or I can send you the gmax model)
In exchange, I can give you never before road/street sewer exemplars.
@cogeo
Thanks for the lighting tips. I will remember them for the next models. But for now I can't change it anymore, because a imported model from GS won't save correct in GMAX.
@j-dub
I can make them time controlled (as a prop), the only things I need are: the 2 models as .SC4Model (one with red and one with green).

I released the billboard, you can get it here:

Hey ehbk2006,
Really enjoy your BATs, man. There are valued mods in my cities.
Here some of my request "$Deal"$ :
Would you be interested in creating some traffic lights?
Or maybe prefer design a new railroad crossing?
Thanks
Ok, below I attached the red n green light models. (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fthebestfilmakerever.googlepages.com%2Fidea.jpg&hash=8d216ed8dd3da2cf6db4ca9dcaad414b321b5e9f)
When you think about it, the RHW is something that could stand to have a signal made for it, couldn't it?
I have to say the billboards do justice for the places you mentioned on them, right off the highway, especially next to the ramp puzzle pieces. I wouldn't mind some more versions that style, or tall enough to fit next to ramps again.
@j-dub:
I've modded your signal, they are timed now: they will start at 1-1-XXXX and will go green and red on the other day.
You need the greensignal, that's the altered one.
However I can't test them because the LOT editor won't load them correctly or won't find them. I think there did go something wrong with rendering at your place, also Ilive has problems with loading your original model. Maybee you can send me the GMAX files and I will give it another try.
Anyway, I have put them in the attachment.

Take a look at this topic, if you like traffic signals:

Thanks. I'll just send you the gmax files instead. I'm sorry they only partially rendered right, somehow it got corrupted during export on my Vista. Strange. It should work for you though. Turns out that the prop will only appear in the LOT editor after it has 2 tiles when starting, then after its placed, the lot can be changed back to one tile. However, even so, thats when I noticed it had issues. I don't know why stuff doesn't export right sometimes.
If I want to open the files GMAX gives this error:
The Scene XRef file: "C:\gmax\gamepacks\BAT\scenes\CamLightRigs\TB2_CameraLightRig.gmax" can not be found
Can you send me that file?
That has to be located manually, you should have that in your system too, but I have the file attached below.
However, that gets complicated, so instead of working off of that file, the traffic lights can be imported to a new gmax file instead, without having to deal with the system going bezerk from not finding stuff. You just start a new, blank gmax file, then, from the file tab, select merge, you then can navigate to the traffic signals, after you have it selected, make sure all the boxes are checked, Except cameras and helpers, it shouldn't bother you with a missing warning after you unselected the cameras, and helpers. It should be okay, and you should then be able to have the camera reset. Hope that works.
I need these textures/maps:
walk.jpg
dontwalk.jpg
\SimCity4\Justintime_GMAXModels\newcolor.jpg
The camera problem is solved, I can import the model now, without textures.
Here they are below. Did gmax show you a warning box? If so, you can just ignore it. You should be able to copy these textures into where ever you keep your pictures on your computer. Then from the Utilities Icon, you can select Asset Browser and then manually locate all your pictures. Gmax then allows you drop the texture onto the shape/object. :)

See the attachment below. The green light prop has been modified. The signal will be 5 days green and 5 days red. And will start working at 01-01-XXXX.

Ooh, that looks nice! It's actually the first custom traffic light that I really like
 Thanks ehbk2006! As an added bonus, you get street sewers. Just place them in your plugins folder, and they eventually will appear on your developed cities. Oh man, your going to be famous for being the first person to ever do animated signals other than the Maxis ones. Since Avenue Left Turn Lane Intersection signals are before anyway, these will look good especially after those interesection especially. &apls &apls &apls: So is this going to go to the other exchange sites for everyone else to see?

Hello ehbk2006 , nice work you did with the billboard, but i have a problem with the last one that you upload on stex . Each time that i want to open it in the LE , the LE close and put me back on deskup and close the LE ()what() So do you have any clue , cause i would like to us it for my MD . Thanks and nice station BTW &apls &apls
Hmm I know what you mean. I think he crashes, because I deleted the base textures, therefore the base texture is transparant.
What you can do is making your own lot. And adding the prop's.
You need to add the MCB billboard prop and the powerbox prop to work correct.
Or you can add the base textures with Ilive's reader.

Some great work going on in here! I especially like the curvature there, I'm a big fan of arches if you haven't already noticed. ::) If you need texture help, just ask and I'll see about whipping them up for you. I have a lot of files to work with over here. ;D

The hardest parts going to be the windows for texturing. The blue walls, you can probably open up photoshop or something, and do that yourself, black and white should be simple. You probably cand find a texture for the roof.

Hey, those traffic lights look pretty cool. I'm just wondering if you can make the traffic light cameras for the Avenue+Avenue intersections? I Have a picture of the cameras in Knoxville, Tennessee. I'll be glad if you can BAT them and make it so we can down load it. P.S. The cams should be placed on the sidewalk edge diagnonal from each other. :) :) :)
I can make them, but I need some more information:
I need a picture or a drawing of the whole speedcamera and I need dimensions. (estimated is also fine)
I can place them on a lot just like the trafficlights, if you want to have them as T21's then you need to ask someone else.
Quote from: ehbk2006I can make them, but I need some more information:
Unfortanetly, heres more information true to its word. Redlight Cameras are horrible! :o Red light cameras are put at dangerous intersections as an excuse for cities to make revenue. There not always right, the fine is a stupid 150 dollar expense, and people actually drive more dangerously to make sure they get through the intersection. In fact my city took them down, but is going to replace them, because they weren't happy with them not being able to make the desired amount of 100 grand, the time they were up. However, the one neighboring city, completely took them down because eventually people will overthrough the government like V for Vendetta. If they wanted to make interections safer, then count down timers should be used instead of the massive corruption thats gotten into everybody running cities. Also, the cameras are considered an invasion of privacy, and in most cases the yellow light is unlawfully short, but they get away with that, because their in control of things. However, I have noticed in my SimCity cars do blow the light straight up, even though thats not suppose to be possible. If the cameras were made, in order to work for the avenue intersections along with the new traffic lights, they need to be on the same lot. However, I think some cameras were already released on the stex. For a joke though, if they were made, you can make that lot generate income by flipping cost to income. :-\ However, is the station first priority still?
Lol, I know what they are ;D
We Dutch people really love them:

But I need technical information, dimensions and better photo's with the mast included.
Well, I don't have better photos, SORRY! But I do know that the pole is 4 inches in diameter, the box is a parallelogram and is 1 Ft. tall, the base is a trapazoid and is 6 inches high and the pole is about 8 ft. tall. The company that made the cameras in Tennessee is Redflex so check out www.redflex.com for more info.
That's the stuff I need thanks.
Edit:
Something like this?:

If you need more pics let me know there are 10 redlight cameras within two miles of my house! There is also two speed cameras in my area.
The product site has enough pictures. But if you see something what isn't correct, you can give me a picture how it looks like.

I shall make an extra flasher. Done

One question:
Why do they use multiple flashers in the USA? In Holland we just use one.
Everyones different. In the US there are different traffic control brands. In fact, my city took them down, because those cameras consisted of multiple pieces. However, they had arranged with a different company.
Lol, I found this:

I actually did to resize them 1.3 times because they where so tiny.
I'm glad. Can you make 2 files for the cameras? One for the Camera and flasher that's on one pole. And another with the camera one one pole and the flasher on another pole about 5 to 10 feet away from the camera.
What can I say? I like the free version. This'll make an interesting addition to the game's intersections.
The multiple flashers are used here in TN for intersections with turn lanes and where street light hinder a good picture.

They are allready seperated, the preview picture was photoshopped.
I shall make another file, with the camera without the flasher. Done. So you can fully modify your setup in the lot editor.
I'm almost ready with Batting, next part will be Lotting and Modding.
Now I've got 2 very important questions:
1) Which type of configuration's on the Lot's should I make:(Cameraflash+flash, Camera + flash, Cameraflash , anything else?)
2) How much should the traffic camera's building costs be?
How much should the bulldozing costs be?
How much should they earn monthly?
I can only answer question 2:
Build costs: $100
Buldoze costs: $75
Earn: $40 per month
you should make the cameras go under the police catagory because the tickets go from the camera to the police then they certify the tickets then sends them out.

I tried to make them turn in to a police station, but that resulted in a huge amount of police cars around the camera's and policemen. So I now turned them into parks, the money they make is $5 and you can see it at the business category in your balance. They have modified sounds, and I will make custom icons too.

I'd be glad to do it for you! I don't really know what to do to put the texture on the model, though - I could use help with that.
Oh, and also I don't have the faintest idea how I would go about making the bendy part of the bus actually bend. I've seen it done, though.
Cool, thanks. I shall post the .3ds file here when it's done, it needs some more curves. ;)
Ok wait.. I am sorry but I must withdraw my offer - I haven't the faintest idea what exactly I'd do ith the model file - I know how to put the model into a DAT file but I am very picky with small details such as the fact that it's a bendy bus, and I don't know how to apply the textures.
I only know one that convert a 3ds to a low poly automata, Jan/Swamper77.

If this bus was turned into glr tram, it may be a good idea. I could see this in line with Avenue in GLR. Without revealing much, I can tell you that there is a different type of glr road being made, that is shared with car traffic. The texture looks like the bus is driving in traffic lined up with cars on a 4-lane single tile road. I don't know much about automatta, but the bending part may not be as much as an issue if it was detached as seperate cars. Real toy trains never have the bending part covering the doorways between cars working sucessfully. So in reality, it can't be done. I tried building some real train cars, and having the covered doorway connection actually stay together was not going to happen. I don't know if or when cables are going to be T21-ed to this type of network, but I seriously assume so, since this is a vital glr network being made. As we speak more pieces are probably being made. That may be a while. In real life in my state, I have seen these type of cable busses drive on a seperate line than the traffic. Maybe check the T-Ram thread to see if this could potentially be automatta for it. If automatta, there probably is better luck taking the textures and replacing current MAXIS automattas. I never heard of 3D models being able to be turned into automatta.
Quote from: j-dubnever heard of 3D models being able to be turned into automatta.
You apparently haven't seen the automata that I have done. $%Grinno$% All of my automata started as 3D models. I have a process that I use to get them into the game. The automata models aren't as detailed as the 3D models, but the graphics I create are detailed enough to give the illusion of them being detailed.

It is advanced modeling and modding compared to other custom content. At the moment, I'm apparently the only custom content author who can do it. :( Some day, I will write a tutorial on how it is done. The problem is I hate making pictures and having to host the pictures somewhere. Most of my tutorials that I have written are pure text, which I find easier to handle. &mmm

Well I always use picvalley.net to host, since you don't have to type your email in all the time, and its really a simple image hoster, unlike image shack.
@ehbk2006, well at least we know the answer to how difficult the automatta process would be for the bus. I wondered why Maxis didn't render props and automatta the same, now we know.

Now, I want to place the models besides the railway's on a lot. Is there are an easy way to create a Lot which I can place on top of a railway? Instead of placing it besides it (like the lots in the Redflex pack), tutorials would be nice. ;)
Thanks in advance.
There is. I'd recommend using SC4Tool's Transit-Enabling editor to do this. To prevent the trains from jumping tracks while traveling through the lot, set the travel direction to one axis only (ie North-South). Otherwise, the trains may "switch" over to adjacent rail tiles after entering your lot.

One tip: make a lot of the catenary that can be placed beside the railway track (oh, and don't forget the diagonals! The props must be overhanging props, because it's really tricky to make diagonal TE lots).

I think it would probably be the best if you included the offset versions for all signs and catenaries in all orientations, as using network enabled pieces can be tricky sometimes.

I also put a Beta version in the attachments.
Known issues:
1) When you save the 'base texture' disappears (black hole)
2) The brown tiles surrounding the Lots.
I miss a offset catenary (and lights) for orthagonal pieces. For some people, that could be an issue. But still, it looks great!

What do you mean with a offset catenary? If you mean the overhanging prop Lots, they are in it in both diagonal directions.
Well, it would be great to also have a offset-version for the straight pieces. Other than that, looking great!
As requested, added offset gantry. I will do the offset signals later on.
Version 1.1 in the attachments
If you use PEG's alternate railway mod, this will get rid of these brown tiles surrounding the lots. OR you could go in the LE and put the same brown texture surrounding the catenaries under the tracks on the lot.

Added the offset signals in orthogonal direction and changed the prizes.
All LOT's included:

Wonderful objects from Belgium. I like their signals, especially the screen with the different lights because of it`s bend from :)
It`s a pity that you can't se all the detail you`ve did in 3dsmax &mmm
Your Baureihe 189 is very great, but I think you`ve missed the logo of the company.
Didn't see a locomotive only with Cargo on it. Perhaps you want to do a version with Railion and the blue cube on it.
Greetings from you neighborcountry Germany
Thank you for the comments Royal
All models I've made are untextured , however when I make a prop pack of them I shall refit all the models with logo's. If they are large enough to notice them in SC4.

;D I think it's something from the old days when it was DB Cargo, but they are indeed from Railion now.
Edit: Better idea I will just draw the logo's, that way I can use them as a vector file. (Resize them without blurring)

If there's a tutorial for it why not. Only problem is how to make them animated, everything I've created at the moment is static.
I'm also searching for information about Swiss track objects, it will be my next theme pack. Have some dimensions or drawings post them here.

Yes sir, I hope I can make them drivable one day. But for now I will make props of them, so they will look nice in your station Lot.
Very nice work. The props looks goot and it's great to hear that you'll be pursuing drivable automata. That's an area I've always wondered about. If you're interested, have you ever considered modelling a cable car in the San Francisco style (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco_cable_car_system) or something in the style of the PGE Redcar back before freeways took over southern CA? I know you likley have your hands full with everything else, but if you are ever looking for suggestions, I've always thought those would make great GLR vehicles. Very nice work so far.

Hello ehbk!
Nice Locomotives! I'm working at Railion in Germany and I drove the BR 152 and BR 189. I like the 189, it is an authentic locomotiv :) Your models are comply with the examples, but the red is a little bit to bright and to cleanly.

I think I like the darker version a bit better. Both look pretty good though.
I found some decent pictures of the SF Cable Car, but no really technical measurements. As I recall, they are appx 8ft high, so if that provides any frame of reference, then have fun with it... they don't have to be spot on to the dimensions (though I will keep looking to see what I can find).

Here's a screen from the LE. The colors of signals are only visible in the highest zoom level, but you will hardly notice it. Though this makes the signal bridge usable in every situation, without making a version for every signal aspect combination.
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg178.imageshack.us%2Fimg178%2F6848%2Fbla2kg0.png&hash=29472615274c16c2e23e6c899b121b5ca6c3bc89)
Below are 2 versions; one in original dimensions and one multiplied times 1,25:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg178.imageshack.us%2Fimg178%2F3259%2Fblavk0.png&hash=1ffedbcee16fce21a25e36c133269cd2487d872d)
Note: The colors will be modified.
Which do you prefer? (This is very important because everything in the set will have this scale.)
I think the 1x scale looks better, but it almost seems too short to allow trains to pass underneath. If trains can fit, then I'd say go with the 1x.
The small one looks too tight. The bigger one you an actually see the details better. I think the bigger one scales better. Maybe there should be more of a vote on this.
I'd suggest using the 1x scale model, but just make it slightly taller so there is more clearance between the trains and the bottoms of the signal bays.
-Swamper
I'm going to make a compromise, how about scale 1,13?
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg294.imageshack.us%2Fimg294%2F9513%2Fbla2uy1.png&hash=c2861125913d0231a5f57ebbb7504956840261a8)
That works. I haven't seen signals like that before around here, so I don't have much to compare it to, but it looks good from what I have seen so far.

They are props, you can find them in the Lot Editor. Making them drivable is planned, but atm. I miss the knowledge about it.
Oh, no! I can tell with a 28 inch hd screen that the signal comes down too far, and hits the train. ???

Well, in real life the space is also really tight between the pantograph and the signal baskets.
Example of a signal bridge with long baskets:
Picture (http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/ch/SBB_CFF_FFS/signalling/colour-light/sbb98070829.JPG)
Here you can see how much clearance the trains will have when passing under the bridge:

It's the little details on these things that are always so impressive. I haven't seen these in RL to make an accurate comparison, but I like what I see all the same. I know it would be a lot of work, but if there's a way to get these t21'd into a catenary mod, it'd be pretty darn neat.

T21's would be great, but is it possible to add multiple types of cantanery for one type of rail. Or do I need to make more types of rail, all with the same overlay texture but with other T21's attached to it?
Scale 100%:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg222.imageshack.us%2Fimg222%2F7215%2Fhslbfz5.png&hash=5033a0b7e0ed9339c212f0333030e5a517a00011)
I'm the wrong person to ask about that. I know t21s are powerful but have little functional idea of how they work. I think Swamper, or choco would be good people to contact for a place to start. I know both of them are pretty busy, but they might be able to point you in the right direction if nothing else.
T21's don't use Lots, like the one shown in your picture. T21's are a single tile of a network with props placed on it. The T21 can also be given a pattern for the spacing so the props appear on certain tiles but not others. The tutorial that I made is here: How to create T21 exemplars (Swamper77's way) (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=70.0).
Basically, I use the Lot Editor to place my props on a 1x1 tile to get the positions of them. Then I copy the props to a T21 exemplar using the Reader. The Reader is the only tool I know of to make/edit T21 exemplars.
To do the curves, diagonals, and intersections with other tracks, you will need to make the props for those. You will need the normal orientation like you already have plus a diagonal version for the most part. If you are considering making them for the FARR as well, then you will need props rendered at 18.4 and 71.6 degrees as well.
If you want, I can set up a thread in my subforum in the BSC for you and I to discuss the inner workings of how the T21's are done plus handling for the props. You're also welcome to contact me via MSN <--
QuoteT21's would be great, but is it possible to add multiple types of cantanery for one type of rail. Or do I need to make more types of rail, all with the same overlay texture but with other T21's attached to it?
You can have multiple T21's each with a different cantanery prop for the network. However, they will inter-mix if you have all the different sets installed when you are laying out your network.

And what if you make different types of rail? So when you drag rail Type A you will have Dutch cantanery en when you drag rail Type B you will have Swiss cantanery, just like the difference between streets and roads. Is that a solution?

The game only has one type of rail at the moment, at least until the Single Track Rail (STR) project gets released. Even when that gets released, you still only have one type of dual track rail and that is the Maxis default. If you're intending for one type of catanery for dual track rail and one type for STR, then that would work. There aren't any plans to make additional dual track railroads, that I know of.

I think the cantanery in bigger scale (eg:1.15~1.20) maybe better :D
also, about the T21, maybe you can ask plunder in name team to share how to do
The catenaries based on the Betuweroute are very pretty, like the original :)

Hi
I used the ehbk2006's cantanery props with T21 exemplar in drggable rail cantanery mod, look the image:

actually I've been completed the new drggable rail cantanery mod for NAM2009 that used 3ddz's cantanery props, but I don't want to release yet, because Andreas told me the SFBT team will make new cantanery props but I haven't see yet
and some tiles in FARR puzzle piece (multi track and intersections, like the image) that I haven't found the suitable cantanery props, except SFBT cantaneries props, but I don't think that two different types cantaneries on the one rail is a good idea

I think remove the middle pillar of multi type cantanery will be better
and could you make the diagnoal props of the two type? :P
No problem, I will send them tomorrow via the pm.
Today I finished the Beta version of the NL Special Gantry Pack (ploppable version), you can find it in the attachments. If there are no further problems I will remove the base-textures and release it.
All flavors in the pack:

Well done you guys. This is an excellent result. Have you checked for any conflicts that may exist with the STR? I don't know much about t21's but I know they are based on network properties and the STR is essentially an override. Very nice work.
-Matt
T21's are tied to the IID of the model....shouldn't affect STR..... &mmm
Today, I finished the last model for the swiss pack, a combined home signal which can be used around the stations. This is how the pack looks now, the newest additions are in the front:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg98.imageshack.us%2Fimg98%2F7500%2Fswisspacksh0.jpg&hash=4e17c0e18de9c0df619d4b03d63e879e25f3c82b)
If there are any request for objects in this pack, this is your last change. Next phase will be turning them into a lot.

I think the different styles don't mix very well. Just release the mod as it is now. If there will ever be an update, I shall create some modern looking signals ETCS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Train_Control_System) or TVM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmission_voie-machine) based. :)
I will create a separate ploppable pack of the Swiss models.

Congratulations you two on the release of a fine looking catenary mod. Any thoughts on LEX release as well? The more places the better for something like this.

Explain yourself, please. ()what()
Normal or bigger?
Normal:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg242.imageshack.us%2Fimg242%2F6742%2Fswissyx4.jpg&hash=5e9f3b449ef4274a72ffaf53c2a821fd8b413fee)
Bigger:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg15.imageshack.us%2Fimg15%2F3297%2Fswiss2po8.jpg&hash=f6a9097a21a2fc60cab5cfbcae72e6f1dcb12ff0)
Which one do you like best?
I also made a standard block signal bridge:
I think the normal sized one looks better in terms of both game scale, and real-life comparison. Nice detail on it too.
-Matt
Your work is amazing and i can not lurk anymore! ;) For me the bigger size is better. maybe if is not late is
possible to do same swiss catenary for moultiple tracks, likes stations! see the picture. thank`you very much

First of all, welcome to SC4D ;)
Secondly, if you got some more drawings and maybe some dimensions (dimensions of scale models are also fine). I will create you a version which will span 4 tracks (2 tiles).

I shall create some new renders this week, with some luck I can make the normal ones a little bit more detailed.
I've made the gantry already a little bit smaller, it's to big in comparison with the signal bridges.
Still the bigger ones do look better detailed, but they are indeed a little bit on the big side.
It's a dilemma between bigger better detailed props like the light signals from royal. Or maintaining and respecting the real life dimensions, just like I did in the Belgian pack. &mmm
In the end you should do what you think is best. From my experience, even if there are fewer details on the smaller one, the mind will fill in the missing ones (similar to the wires on the phone poles I made, you know there supposed to be there). I'll keep an eye out for what you come up with though.
-Matt
Thank`s for your answer! For 2 tiles will be perfect , although in the drawing posted below is for five rails track! I hope this picture clear what i meaining! this is taken from sommerfeld models! :) Tank`you again if you
realize that

The better scale for me is "x 1.13", but, naturally the choice is yours, so never mind, every scale is good however.

I can't do anything about the big gap in the middle, not till there's a new RAM with more tracks on a tile.
For me will be perfect! thank`s again.javascript:void(0);
Great work
You could do catenaries for NorthCountryDudes railway textures, if you want to :)
Yup, when the STR and the Wide Railway Mod are released. I will create some expansion packs for all my sets, including plunders t21 set. But first I will release a base package for the standard 2-rail textures.
All my gantry portals are build with components and groups so they are easy to modify. Modifying the signal bridges will be harder.
A preview with no brown tiles this time.

Is your tram released yet, because I've been searching for it, but haven't found anything yet :(
-Stijn-
Do you mean the Vienna one or the Amsterdam ones?
Both :P
-Stijn-
You can find the Amsterdam ones here (http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=5077.msg242990#msg242990).
The one from Vienna is in the attachments of this post.
Btw this is my first HD prop a nice opportunity to test it. ;)

Amazing the difference between old and new. :o
Wow, that is indeed quite a difference!
Thanks a lot for the links, now I can finally use these darn good creations from you!
-Stijn-
is this tram usable as is? I mean will it replace my current GLR tram?
Looking sharp! Glad you could do the HD thing.
I had a question for you. I noticed unlike most of the people here, you use Sketchup to model for SC4, personnally I never touched any modelling but since a few days I've been tinkering with the idea of giving it a try. The thing is GMAX for someone who has never done any modelling seems a bit daunting but Sketchup looks more user friendly ;) I started doing the official tutorials for it and I'm liking it. but I have a few questions, how do you scale your models for Sc4 using sketchup? I mean do you simply use meters and that will export correctly to sc4?
Also is there any tips or tutorial for sketchup used for SC4 somewhere?
Do you recommand I use GMAX even tho it seems hard to get into?
I hope I'm not going too much off topic... If I am feel free to remove my post.
thanks
Well, it's much harder to export models with Sketchup than with gMax. You'll need gMax either way. I use gMax for all my traffic BATs and it works well. Maybe you should search for tutorials in the Omnibus on SimTropolis (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/index.cfm?FTVAR_SUBCAT=137&nocookies=y&subcatname=SimCity%20Omnibus%3A %20Search%20Here%20First). Hope it helps!
Best,
Maarten
I've never used Sketchup, but I find the BAT easy to use once you get the hang of a few basic things (and I had never done any 3-d modelling before it) which seem like they would be pretty standard for any modelling for the game. If you choose to go the GMAX/BAT route, I highly recommend the BAT Essentials Tutorial by Phillippbo (http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=140&threadid=78721&enterthread=y) over at ST. It is probably one of the clearest, most comprehensive guides to BAT creation.
Here's a tutorial for converting models from GSU to the BAT:

moin ehbk2006,
 oh, there it was (the tutorial), once i thought about it, because i wanted to show someone the right way to do it! thanx a lot, mate!
btw. the new locomotive looks breathtaking, it's a same that SC4 is not fully 3D!
are you gonna leave the rack for the weels as it is, or you still working on it?
cheers
b_schlurf
Still working on it. Adding more details is the next fase. ;)
thanks for the advice guys.
Also very nice model there ehbk2006.
One more question how do I turn your models in automata?
No idea tbh. I'm still waiting for a descent tutorial. ;D :D
Quote from: delija21 on June 24, 2008, 01:30:45 PM
That's looking relly good,i like the details....but isn't it easyer to model it in gmax from the start???
it is much more easier to create models in SketchUp since it was made to be simple for the non 3d artist user. hehe... :P
