Title: Diamond District {Updated September 23rd, 2009}
Post by: BuildingUp on July 31, 2009, 01:23:54 PM
I've been working on a MD for awhile but up until recently haven't been able to work on posting here. So anyways, this is hopefully the start of something new that I can keep updated!

The first image is a teaser picture.

Diamond City is the main City in the District, with a population of about 7,500. (Lots of room to grow!)

@ DriftMaster07: Thank you!

Time for an overview of Diamond City. As you can see, it's long, and spread out. The land it's on is very flat. (This may change)

Ah, nothing like progress. Buildings like this skyrocketed the population from about 7,500 to 10,000, then to 15,500.

But Diamond City isn't just a small city, it's also a farming community. The farmers here pride themselves by producing clean, renewable energy and using state of the art robotic technology for their farms.

good start for your MD! I really like how its spread out really long. Is that because there will be farms all over in the future?

Also, I see you have a lot of Maxis buildings and farms. IMHO, I'm fine with the buildings, but there are a LOT of NICE farms on the LEX. I would recommend AT LEAST changing your farms to custom content.

Looking forward to more, and good luck!

@bob56: Thank you! I will definitely check the farms out. I've played with a lot of custom content before so I remember using some pretty amazing farms from here. I'll be using some custom buildings too.

Update 2

Riverdale

Before morning, we see a nice new row of housing next to a hospital in the nearby city of Riverdale, just right across from Diamond City. So close, in fact, it has been suggested that it be renamed "Diamond City East".

Low wealth residents find themselves at home in Riverdale because of low residential taxes.

Although Riverdale is home to a large population of low wealth residents, there are many other residents from many other monetary incomes. (And there is a river, coming next update)

Riverdale :Update 2:

In Riverdale, going to the local Library is something the residents very much like to do, so building a bigger library was a must. Building more parking space was also on the agenda.

As you can see, the city is very mixed in density. One area may echo a bit like a mini portion of New York, while another may echo a small portion of rural middle America.

Riverdale City Hall was built in the late 1890's with the birth of the city. It stands today proud and completely renovated.

Cross River, the longest river in the District, cuts through the city of Riverdale. This picture was taken in the late 1800's before major settlement had began near the river itself.

I really don't think the Maxis stuff looks all that bad, despite what I've heard others say, as long as it's managed properly. You do a good job of mixing the Maxis and custom content. However, some more custom apartments would really bring out a new level here. &idea Great job!

@jimbo_jj: Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, I'll definitely do that! :)

Okay, this update is the last one for Riverdale for awhile. I figured that it's focusing a little too much on the smaller cities instead of the main one. The next update I want to show some regional pictures and some new stuff.

Riverdale :Update 3:

Ah, Baseball. A national pastime in the United States that is also extremely popular in the District.

High-Tech Industry in Riverdale is starting to take off due to low taxes and the need for highly educated workers.

New Apartments are popping up all over the place such as this one. As the population nears 16,875, and the crime rate has dropped due to impressive policing, this growth looks to continue.

Diamond City :Update 2: :An Urban Journey Through Time:

Diamond City was founded way back in 1861. Back then it was just a farming community, with no big tall buildings or anything like it is today. However, Diamond City has preserved many of it's older buildings unlike many other cities who have torn theirs down. The photo below was taken in early 1963.

The photo below, taken in 1976, shows that even through the 70's, urban life was very much alive in the city.

Finally our journey ends in the late 1980's, 1989 to be exact, where many of the older buildings still stand, and taller skyscrapers start to be part of the cities landscape. Also notice K-SIM, which was built all the way back in 1954. It still exists under the same name as of 2009.

I really like the colors in the teaser! The entire area looks real nice, with the apartments, trees, and colored streetlights. (where'd you get the green streetlights?)

I'm also wondering where all the cars are in the lot? ;D Is it work hours, or do not that many people live there?

Btw don't be worried about not getting comments between updates. Many MD's start out this way. If you keep working hard like you have been, eventually people take notice and comment.

Keep up the great work! :)

The green streetlights come with the great JRJ street side Mod found here: http://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=115.

I'm guessing when they took that picture, all of the people that lived there were either at work, Starbucks or Wal-Mart, or the complex was recently built.

Thank you for commenting and giving me reassurance. :)

The transition from day to night. And this street, one of the oldest in the city, of which these homes reside. Some of the homes in particular date back some 75 years.

Alright, here's update 4.

Diamond City :Update 4: :Population 70,000:

The old Maxis Theater highlights West 22nd street in Diamond City which is one of the older streets in the city.

Suburbia in Diamond City. Newer neighborhoods and developments are popping up all over the place, but you can't ever forget about the calm peacefulness of a good ole' Sunday drive down one of these streets.

The Opera, where you can find people looking through "funny binocular thingies" at "loud ladies" according to Stevie McGeorge, an eight year old from down the street. Or, better known as one of the cities best forms of entertainment. Also note the old Town Hall which turns out the city census.

Alright. I've got 4 pictures this time. I hope you guys like it. :)

I need to do a region picture because I've introduced two places, Diamond City, which is the largest city in the District, and Riverdale, which is a larger city in the District, and now it's time to introduce a smaller town near the two called Roland Heights. This town was founded back in 1898. It's made up of mostly middle income to higher income homes, however, a low income home can be found.

It is one of the more desirable area's in the District.

So here we go; Update 5!

:Update 5: :Roland Heights: :Making it in the Middle:

There is a rumor going around that if you follow the giant yellow arrow you will never be seen again. However, I'm following it right now and this simply isn't the case, I'm perfectly fin- (I wish I could find a way to remove those darn things)

The Radio Station Manager sometimes wonders if locating his station close to the High School was such a good idea. Especially considering how often it gets taken over by the teenagers that break into it- WAR WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR! YEAH! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! WOO!!!! GO ROLAND TIGERS!! Oh and.. Austin Stevens does not have an acne problem.. seriously dude.

People who live here are able to afford a very expensive lifestyle. Ms. Jenkins on the 10th floor has 10 cats, 2 hamsters and 5 gerbils. She sometimes talks to them about politics while watching CNN.

I have nothing to say about this last one, except I hope you've enjoyed this update. And my poor attempts at humor. :P Hopefully the next update won't take as long.

The other building with the coffee shop sign is on Simtropolis, I think. I'm pretty sure it was uploaded recently so check there. If I find the link I'll post it. Sorry I don't have it to post now.

Sorry for no update. Here's another teaser. More to come. :)

By the year 2013, Diamond City had undergone many major changes. Many farmers had moved to other nearby towns and cities, and towers in the cities heart were becoming abandoned. The cities overall infrastructure was hanging on by a thread, but this was to change in the years to come. New technologies were being developed and had been developed since the late 2000's, and the early start of the 2010's saw a new era of technological progress that the District and the world had never yet seen before. Talk of nanotechnology by the end of the decade for farmers spurred new growth and hope to bring back farming to the city, and soon. New ways to engineer crops so that to feed more people. And finally workable sources of alternative energies to power this future. The future looked brighter than ever for the city, and for the District.

Tomas Neto;

Thank you! :)

Glowbal;

Thanks! :)

I apologize for not updating sooner. I won't make any excuses. Here's update 6. :)

:Update 6: :Diamond City: :Boom or Bust in the 2010's:

By Mid 2013, Diamond City had begun to demolish a majority of it's abandoning real estate. The city center however, was still going strong. Seen here, there is no lack of greenery or shopping. The ultimate goal put forth by the city planning commission is to widen the roads here into avenues to ease up traffic and allow larger construction in the years to follow.

Here's a good example of an old block of buildings that no longer harbor any residents. In this picture, they have been marked to show the exact location of the demolition. The nearby buildings should not sustain any damage. This is part of an effort to clean visibility between the Opera House and the Stock Exchange.

BOOM! PEW PEW PEW! Er, My apologies. Anyhow, now that these buildings are gone, the city planner's have decided that 2 large parks and some smaller housing can be placed here. In this way, there will be less noise between the two points of interest. (The Opera House and the Stock Exchange)

Finally in September of 2013, the project is complete. Residents from nearby now can enjoy the Opera and then enjoy the nearby parks and water features, and the new residents can also enjoy the close by Opera House. The Real Estate Agent's can now use it as a "perk" even. Well I guess if you ignore Stevie McGeorge's opinion on it, that is.

That concludes this update. Thanks for viewing! :)

Also, as just a special thank you, thanks for viewing and commenting guys. I appreciate it a lot. 1,000 views and up to page 3. It's more than I could ask for just starting out here. Thanks. Hopefully the next update will be sooner, and larger.

The Tri-Tip Tower that you demolished actually was dilapidated in your teaser shot.  Hmm, it also seems that the demolishers took down that office tower next to the Opera House as well.
