Jag blev trött på att bara spela, så jag bestämde mig för att göra som alla andra här, skapa en MD. :)
Österköpingsregionen är egentligen spelets inbygga region som baseras på New York, dock gillade jag den så mycket att jag bestämde mig för att använda den. Nedan finns en översiktsbild som visar de städer jag byggt hittills.
(obs: denna MD kommer att vara tvåspråkig, dvs på både svenska och engelska)

English:
Well, I grew tired of just playing the game, over and over again, so I decided to create my own MD :)
The Österköping Region map is actually the built-in New York map, but I liked it very much, so I use it as my primary region. Below is the Region overview.

Hittills har jag byggt två större städer, Västerköping (som jag kommer visa först) och Österköping.

Norrköping and Söderköping are real cities in Sweden, Österköping and Västerköping aren't...

I also love the Swedish language, it looks a bit weird (compared to Dutch)

Here is a supporter of both Swedish and roundabouts I can see! This is most defiantly highly regarded. :)
You will have to show a close up on those villa estates, they look nice!

I don't know much about Sweden, but I think that you need some suburbs to support that City centre... that's just my opinion.

I think you should build more IKEA's  ;D, no seriously, I like the suburban feel your MD has

Briljant. RTMT passar verkligen jättebra in i denna miljö, även om Sim City 4 tvingar oss att bygga hållplatser var hundonde meter, själv växte jag upp med 3km till närmaste busshållplats, i Stockholm som ju ändå har bra kollektivtrafik.
Pendeltågsstationen ger en jättefin extra känsla, något radhus vid stationen och kanske någon butik?
Annars som smurfen sa, miljonprogramshus. Jag älskar den effektiva designen av dessa områden, och flytta själv in till ett sådant en månad sedan och stormtrivs, nära till allt och alla och inga tre kilometer till bussen eller två timmars pendlingstid till skolan.

Brilliant. RTMT fits really well into this environment, even if Sim City 4 forces us to build bus stops every one hundredth meter. Where I grew up I had 3km to the closest bus stop and that in Stockholm which generally has a good mass transit system.
The Commuter rail station gives a very nice extra feeling, a row home or so and maybe a shop close by?
Otherwise, as the Smurf said, Project Housing, I love the efficient design of these areas. I just recently as a month ago moved into such an area, everything and everyone close by and no three kilometres to the bus or two hour commutes to school.

I think I'd like to see more areas with small one-family houses... :)

Fantastic!  The suburbs look very realistic, and that's a good thing!  Great use of the STR, too, it's looking great!  My only gripe would be the use of too many roundabouts... I don't know about how things are in Sweden but in that first update with the three roundabouts all right next to each other, it just felt a little out of place in my opinion.

Then again, what do I know about roundabouts?

Xiziz: Trevligt att du gillar min MD. Själv har jag ~500 m till busshållplatsen, vilket är ett ganska lagom avstånd. :P

RippleJet: Fler villaområden ville du ha, och fler blev det! Att man måste skriva allt engelska en gång också är jag fullt medveten om, däremot tycker jag inte att jag ska behöva översätta ett svar på endast en mening, som innan. Men har du invändningar så skriv, så fixar jag en översättning.

Fin uppdatering, jag gillade i synnerhet den sista bilden.
Området i tredje och fjärde bilderna ser jättefint ut, saknas bara en lekpark åt barnen så de slipper springa över den farliga huvudvägen till lekparken brevid höghusen.

Nice update, I really enjoyed the last picture. :P
The area in the third and forth pictures looks really nice, only missing a playground, a little to dangerous to let your kids cross the road to the one beside the hi-rises.

Rondeller verkar infektera de flesta hörn i Sverige, fast jag gillar dem mycket bättre än standard rödljuskorsnignarna då jag har tendensen att alltid fastna på rött medans rondeller är det bara att tuta och köra. :D

Roundabouts seem to be infesting every corner of Sweden, though I do like them a lot better than standard "red-light-crossings", I have a tendency to always get stuck on red, while roundabouts are just to blast through. :D

I love the construction sites -- they're so realistic!  And those new housing developments look great, especially the mid-rises.  Where did you get the parking lots?  They look fantastic!

På grund av den illa valda placeringen av motorvägen så har Västerköping haft svårt att växa. Man har därför beslutat att lägga om rutten och bygga ut enligt skissen nedan.
Due to bad planning, the motorway needs to be realigned to let Västerköping to continue to grow. Therefore a decision has been made to realign and extend as shown below.

Great work on the highway!!  I think what I love most about your MD is the construction shots.  They really add a lot to it!  And the finished product is equally impressive.  Very nice work on the interchange.  It should be a real benefit to the city!

I see that you go for that developing style of a MD (if somebody understands what I mean) - this is pretty cool since we don't have a lot of these types of a Major Diary :thumbsup:.

I have to agree with the above posters. I very much like your style - both in building and in presenting the city. It's got a nice swedish touch ;)

one minor detail, though, as much as I like the wind mills, they look a little out of place, as well as they are not all are facing the same direction.
But no matter, I look forward to you developing the area.

Great start for an MD, but can you please change your png pictures to jpg pictures as soon as possible or I will have to remove them.
Please review the rules for the MD section as well.

GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is probably the most popular free program you can use to change the format of pictures.

I like both banners, but the question should be....Which one suites you and your MD better?
The first one looks more city like and the second looks more rural.  Either way you go, they both look great and will just add to your already great MD.

For the banner, I think you should use both, to vary the banners, and to not have an impression of repetition if you see what I mean ;) For example, one update you use the first banner, and the second, you use the second banner, the third, you use again the first, etc... you alternate :)

Nice to see swedish signs for SC4, one of the main differences compared to most of the rest of Europe is that the signs have Yellow background while the european standard seem to be white.
Does somebody have a tutorial like "roadsigns for dummies" or something?
I would like to change the text of Riiga´s signs to fit my own cities but don´t know how to...
It is amazing how small things like these roadsigns can make so much for the realism of SC4 cities!

I'll probably do an update tomorrow, but for now I just wanted to say that I've uploaded my second pack of Swedish Road Signs.

Speaking of renewable energysources there is an affair going on in the County where Riiga lives where the transit authority is in dispute with the EU over the way the gas used to power their buses is being bought.
In theory the local transit authority has a point in that they want the gas to be produced locally in order to minimize the environmental impact, but the EU thinks otherwise since it´s a rather large contract worth quite a lot of money...

Swesim: Ja, som jag skrev till RippleJet så är det snö på bilden, för regn är det sist vi vill ha. Angående biogasupphandlingen så var det en stor artikel om det i lokaltidningen. Det var tydligen så att Östgötatrafiken hade köpt biogas av Svensk biogas som i sin tur ägs av Tekniska verken som är ett kommunalt ägt bolag. Så det blev som att kommunen köpte biogas av sig själv ungefär.

Translation for non-swedes: Appearently Östgötatrafiken (owned by the county) who operates the buses in my hometown, purchased biofuel from Svensk biogas which is owned by Tekniska verken (owned by the municipality). This roughly means that municipality bought biofuel from itself.

Plinghem låter misstänkt likt en viss "förort" till Linköping, så jag misstänker att inspirationen kommer därifrån...  ;)

Plinghem sounds very much like the RL Linghem which is a smaller community close to Linköping here in Sweden, so I suspect that Riiga has gotten some inspiration from there...

Kul att se lite upphöjd järnväg, själv tycker jag det är lite knepigt att använda då det inte finns så många stationer som passar.
It is interesting to see how You use elevated heavy rail, I don´t use it much since it usually doesn´t fit in my cities and doesn´t have very many stations made for it either.

Tjing för att inte bo i småhusen närmast höghusen i nedre delen av bilden, snacka om insyn...  ;D
I wouldn´t want to live in the houses closest to the midrises in the lower part of the image due to the lack of privacy.

The layout of your region well-crafted.  The region is primarily rural/suburban and low-rise, but I like that it's not endless sprawl.  I like the mix of trees and development.  On page 5, I especially like the windmills in the middle of the farms.  :)

I gotta say you're doing a fantastic job here.  The rail overpass pic in the last update was my favorite.

Quite the huge parking lot there.  Looks great!

That photo took a long time to load, but it was worth it.

Excellent job riiga!  It gave me a lot of ideas in airport design!  I also like the medley of roundabouts that serve the airport.

I see some big planes too!  Any chance of adding some A380s in there to make it even more epic?   :P

Staten ser gjerne at du kaller flyplassene deres "lufthavn", for eksempel Oslo lufthavn, Gardermoen. Alle oss andre ville bare si Gardermoen flyplass 

Danskene gjør det samme, f.eks. Københavns lufthavn Kastrup - men der har jeg bare hørt at man skal "i flyveren".  ::)

However if one is to be picky I´m not sure BA used their "old" livery at the same time as Lufthansas newer livery seen beside it.
On the other hand BA painted at least one 747 in a "retro" livery as a celebration of their anniversary some years ago.  ;)

I'm remembering Vasterkoping from the earlier updates of your MD, and seeing it in it's grown form is really a shocking comparison to the picture from update 1. I also remember all of the construction updates from Vasterkoping, with the step by step instructions, I like that style maybe we could see some more of it? Wow, a map of the busroute network, now I´m really interested!
Since I´m interested in buses as a hobby I quite like my work as a coordinator of the buses in Stockholm in RL...
The translation of the streetnames I´m sure will be useful to many of the readers of this MD and speaking of translations we have a joke here in Stockholm which plays with the words in the name of one of the main streets in Stockholm.
The joke is really just a direct translation and play with words as the street´s name in Swedish is Vasagatan and Vasa if separated into Va sa´ means What did You say? the translation of the streetname can be What did You say street.  :D
A long explanation of a boring thing that doesn´t hava anything to do with this MD, but hopefully enjoys someone nonetheless...  ;)

Västerköping has certainly been growing, and nice use of the windmills you don't see them that often in MD's, but in real life some places are littered with the things


Just one question "torget" does not mean market in Swedish? In Norwegian this would be the case as we use "plass' for square.

That's a neat looking little town!  I really like your use of the wide radius curves there!

very good looking place, great use of pedmall and wide radius curves, and while the carpark seems to be full, i can't see much traffic on your roads.

Another very nice update, my friend. I really love the way your suburbs look, they are almost a perfect mix of Maxis and Custom Content. The new residential bloc is no exception, and the whole area looks wonderful.

The new intersection also looks much safer, as well as more efficient in handling traffic in the area.

Jag har gjort cykel- och gångvägar som de ser ut här i Sverige, och tänkte inom en snar framtid släppa dem på STEX, men än är det mycket arbete kvar. De är dock tillräckligt färdiga för min MD, så vad passar bättre än att testa dem i Västerköping.

I've been working on pedestrian and bike paths, as common here in Sweden. They'll probably be released on the STEX in while, but in the meantime, what better way to show them off, than to use them in this update...
(Note that they're not finished, and that I'll be adding more features like overpasses and signs.)

What are those buildings around the parking lot suppose to be?  It seems like the parking lot could be bigger, though, you'd have to mess around with the lots to make it all look seemless.

År 1945 hade staden vuxit till sig med ett nytt bostadsområde, fler industrier samt en asfalterad huvudled.

Slowly expanding, by 1945, the city had grown with some new residential development as well as another industrial area. Also, an asphalt road have been constructed through the town.

På grund av befolkningsökning och tack vare statlig finansiering har man diskuterat möjligheten att bredda vägen till en fyrfältsväg och även bygga ett nytt bostadsområde i utkanten, på andra sidan järnvägen.

På bara 10 år så har biltrafiken ökat med 400 %! Som framtidssäkring anlade man därför en kort teststräcka med motorväg strax väster om staden.

Nice construction shots. Interesting idea for an interchange, too! (although I'd shorten the elevated part ;D)

Looking good.  I like the interchange: very European looking, and not just because of the textures.  That roundabout really fits too.  It would be possible to shorten the elevated section using starter-less pieces, but only in the name of perfection, it already looks great the way it is.

As for the wall, it's my jagged edges mod that makes it look so steep, and adding retaining walls would make the road have wealth textures.  &mmm  The interchange I could make more compact, though I quite like the FARHW ramps. Behovet av en förbindelse från norr till söder har ökat något enormt på sistonde. Motorvägen som går väst om staden är inget alternativ för resor inom staden, och den enda egentliga vägen går rakt genom centrum. Vägverket har gått med på att bekosta byggandet av en förbifart, men många bönder och villaägare motsätter sig byggandet. Tänkte därför låta läsarna bestämma. Skriv en kommentar med vilket alternativ du föredrar (du kan kombinera fritt), eller så kanske du inte vill ha någon förbifart alls, vilket också går alldeles utmärkt att skriva! With increasing amounts of traffic, the need for an eastern by-pass has grown quite big. The National Road Administration has decided to fund the construction, but however the local farmers and family house owners near the planned route are opposing the construction. A typical case of NIMBY (Not In My Backyard). Therefore, I'll let you readers decide. I won't put up a proper poll, since I'd rather you write a comment with your opinion. Pick any viable combination of the route alternatives in the picture below, or you can of course oppose the proposal altogether!

Okay, here we go. I would go for a combination of Alt 1A and Alt 1 B, meaning essentially Alt 1A with a connection to the avenue. Then I would prolly go with alt 2A. Also, I would get rid of all junctions except for connections to the avenues, and the one way roundabout. Perhaps a connection could be made to the industrial area? The reasoning I had behind picking the alternatives was the benefit it would have for local traffic, as well as potential for future expansion further south, thus giving it even more potential usage.

To me a combination of 1C and 2C sounds more reasonable. It'll leave some space for development between the existing city and the by-pass road itself.

I would agree with Metasmurf for the beginning (left-hand) side of the route but would suggest the alt2B route that doesn't go as close to the industrial development (allowing for future expansion there). I like both ends of alt2A, further right toward the suburban houses and the edge of town as well as further up towards the commie blocks. That commercial area there would certainly benefit from connection to the bypass but I think that train station would as well and it seems like that area is a potential sight for new residential growth that could make use of the bypass.

My recommendation would depend on how much growth you expect for the area and how much traffic you expect on the bypass. If you're planning a lot of growth in the area the outermost route might make the most sense.

I Hope they get those fundings soon, a level crossing and the large shopping area closeby can make for severe congestions...

Actually this is not so far from real life though, where I live they are currently working on a big roadproject and guess what it is about?
It´s actually about building a big roundabout for the roadtraffic and then raising the local railroad over the roundabout... ;)
Also in the neighbouring municipality they are refurbishing and expanding the local mall and that also requires new solutions for the traffic to access the shopping centre.

Riiga´s update is therefore very close to real life I would say...

På grund av 1991 års finanskris så beslutade man att satsa pengar på sysselsättning inom infrastruktur och därmed beslöt man att bygga ytterligare en trafikplats som i detta fall mer blir en infart.
Due to the onging recession, it was decided to put more money into infrastructure despite the recent budget cuts. However, it wasn't the previously uncompleted part that was to be built, but rather a new motorway junction. A partial Y-interchange was chosen since there isn't enough space for a full interchange.

I love watching the progress of this city, fantastic update as always.

Excellent work with the motorway construction.  I'm a little late, but I have to agree with Vester: combination of 1A/1B and 2C.  I'm interested to see the outcome, though I'm sure your capable of making just about anything look good.  I also have to agree with your strategy.  The countries that invest most heavily in infrastructure during times of recession are going to come blasting out of it ahead of every other country.  Especially rail because it isn't as heavily effected by rising petrol costs.

Efter tillbakagången kommer tillväxten! Ringvägen är nästan klar (motorväg till och med!) och några mindre bostadsområden med lägenheter har byggts. Detta blir den sista uppdateringen innan vi går in i (nästan) nutid. Vi vet alla vad det betyder också - rondeller och återigen rondeller!
After the recession comes the economic growth! The ring road has been mostly completed and some new areas with apartment buildings have been built. This is the last update before entering the (almost) present day. I think we all (Europeans at least) know that this means roundabouts, and lots of them!

I think I like your MD so much because of your great attention to detail, especially with transport networks, and the way you present the area, which allows me to get a feel for the "big picture" of the area. The city is looking great! The only thing I would really like to see is more on-slope pieces replacing the L0-to-L2 transitions. I'm looking forward to more, as always!  :thumbsup:

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I really liked the part of your RHW-4 beltway where you used ORTH-FA and FA-DIAG transitions on the inner RHW part of the curve. Innovative, realistic, and aesthetically pleasing.
