Matt:  Thank you!  The people models are actually courtesy of SimGoober.  I don't recall if they were a public release or not, though... I'll have to check that part.

Tag One:  Thanks!  I'm glad you suggested I do that.

Duane:  I guess it's a good thing there is no ban on needless silliness... I'd imagine if there was, I would end up in jail for life.  I don't have many plans for the lotting yet, but I think it will be a bit more subdued than others.  Rather than cruelty, I prefer to think of it as demonstrating that the wait won't be as long for Pack Two. ;)

Xxdita:  Thank you!

Bluebeard:  Gracias!

Pat:  Danke!

Edge:  Merci!

Whew!  It's a good thing there wasn't another response there... I nearly ran out of languages!   :D  Sorry there was no update last night.  I got a little sidetracked in a very interesting discussion and spent a lot of time looking at and reading about urban decay... I got depressed at what I saw, which in turn made me angry.  There was a lot of fist shaking and muttering directed at "the man"... I considered calling my congressman, but I figured he's probably "the man" too and so it wouldn't have helped any... I mumbled and shook my fist some more... I considered calling the president, but he's definitely one of "the men" and I don't really like him anyway... and then I think I moved on.

I scrapped the Matthew Edgren Law School and started over on it.  There wasn't really anything wrong with it, but I was shown some pictures that I liked even better.  The overall shape of the building will be the same, but it will have a slightly different look to it.  I didn't get far enough to post a picture last night, but there should be something this evening for sure.

Until then,
JB

PS... The man didn't really get me down that much.  It is an upsetting subject, but I probably dramatized my reactions just a tad.  More of that needless silliness, you know?   :D

Derry:  (if I may)  Thanks!  And I will gladly partake in a cuppa...  :D

Pat:  Come back anytime... you can see the newer version starting now.  ;)

So I started over on the law school yesterday, like I said.  Between now and then, I think I've gotten back to roughly the same point as where I left off the first time.  First a look... then some explainations:

For starters, I hate the main entry.  It seemed like an idea worth trying... but it seems that I was sadly mistaken on that part.  So that will certainly change.  I'm not entirely happy with the textures on the first floor yet, although I've already tinkered with them an awful lot.  I just can't quite get it nailed down.  The blank spots along the sides and around back will be secondary entries of some sort eventually.  I'm not real sure how the roof is going to look just yet, but rest assured you won't have to look at the warped attic floor.  (Don't ask why I tiled it if it's not going to be seen anyway... these are just the things I do to keep people guessing)

I've taken to naming the buildings for pack two after various SC4 people... just because I can.  If you remember back to the dorms, the taller towers are Payce and Rooker Halls.  The Star Wars dorm is Stropon Hall.  Then we have DeBussy School of Design... and now Matthew Edgren Law School.

TTFN!

Should have made the law school in the shape of a dollar sign . . . it would've seemed more fitting. :P

Jon ty, BTW what do you hate about the main entry, I think it gives it a classical entrance look... I think you have it warped for the fact of age, as we all know the attics of all old buildings the floor is never ever perfect lol....

Hi Jon,  I like the new look...the columns and classical feel are stupendous.   My only thought on the main entry is the size of the doorway, but replacing just the door, wouldn't work with leaving the windows like that...hmmm....but something more grand and imposing for the enrty?  oh well....all I've got to do is kibbutz.....I'll let you do the hard work :D

Jon (If I may :) )
And yes you can ;)

I love the new pics.
As you say you hate the main entry, may I make a suggestion?

As your windows on either side of the door are rounded which complement the solid sturdy style of the building how about  a compounded  (recessed) doorway using the same style as the windows?

Some examples of what I mean can be found here. Hope this may be of some help to you. (Wouldn't the Gananoque look great as the chapel for the uni?)

Looking forward to seeing how you tackle this problem of yours
but in the meantime hope this helps

I know i have not actually responded here lately at all but i have been checking to see the progress periodically and i just have to say it looks phenomenal in all aspects, you have put alot of work into this and its going to be huge!

Actually, as i have been following for awhile, i just have to ask as this has been nagging me: how huge is this? All those buildings if used at once are going to take up a massive amount of real-estate. Not that this is bad, but im just wondering, how far are you exactly planning to take this project, in terms of buildings and classes? Because while this project passed the point for me awhile ago as to be too prohibitive for me in terms of space dedicated to one thing (but i am on and old laptop, so don't feel bad) im wondering how far exactly it has yet to go? How much is enough? You gave a ballpark estimate awhile ago but left open the suggestion that there will be more forthcoming.

Thats not a negative post, just an honest inquiry.

And it also should be in a neo-classical style, circa 1972.

TopCliff:  Perhaps a Simoleon sign would be even more appropriate?  :D

Adept2Rock:  Thank you!  I wish I would have gone to a university like this...  :D

Pat:  There's a lot I don't really like about the main entry right now to be honest.  That whole first floor wall is set back too far.  I feel like the arches don't really match the rest of the building at the moment.  And also the way the elevation is set at the moment would make the porch pretty low... which also doesn't seem to fit the style to me.

Duane:  Thank you!  Yes... the doors will definitely change.  Something grand is certainly in order... I just have to find what that might mean.

Derry:  Thanks!  (and of course you may also)  You seem to like the arches, I see.  Hmm...  &Thk/(  That link is excellent!  Thank you!

Fledgeling:  Thank you!  Nice to see you again.  No offense taken at all... it's a very legitimate question that I haven't really explained very well.  How far I take the project is honestly impossible to say... I've purposely designed features to make the whole thing as open ended as possible.  At the same time, I've tried (and will continue to try) very hard to make things very optional in that you can use the expansions if you want to, but won't necessarily need to.  "How much is enough" is quite honestly and literally up to each person.  The Maxis university provides a number of benefits to the city... including park effects, mayor rating, civic jobs, demand cap relief, and of course the EQ boost (the education that makes your sims smarter).  All these benefits are included in the three "starter" classroom buildings, although they are slightly lower than the Maxis version.  For the sake of this discussion, I'll limit myself to the cap relief and EQ pieces, as I feel these are the two most important things anyway.  One of the classroom buildings will provide between 70-85% of the cap relief provided by the Maxis university.  (It varies by the size of the building in this case.)  It will also provide half of the EQ boost campared to Maxis.  Maxis gives an EQ boost of 30... I've used a boost of 15.  Any and each additional building will provide an additional EQ boost of 5 points.  Additional cap relief will be provided only by more of the functional classroom buildings.  So, in the case where space is an issue... you could plop a total of 4 buildings and have the same education benefits as a Maxis university provides.  The cap relief aspect would admittedly take up a little more space to get on equal footing, but the second classroom building will put you well above what Maxis provides... which I consider a fair enough trade off.  I hope this rambling response actually answers some of your concerns.  If not, feel free to ask again or additionally and I will gladly try to make things clear.

SA:  A neo-classical dollar sign?  Y'all are starting to worry me a little bit...  :D

I haven't really gotten much further on things yet, so I don't have any new pictures at this time.  I may have one before the night is out... otherwise I hope to have a fair chunk of time this weekend to work on things.

See you then!
JB

Kimcar:  Thanks!  I guess I have come full circle with this whole education thing, haven't I?  Yay me!  :D

SimShady:  I tend to have too many big plans... I'm glad this one is finally seeing the light of day though!

XiahouDun:  Thank you!  Dun Arena has a nice ring to it... ;)

I didn't get quite as far as I had hoped with this today, but there are reasons for that.  A few of you may remember last summer when I mentioned some potential big changes.  It seems some of that may finally be coming to a head.  More on that in the next few days...

In the meantime, I managed to get most of the roof pieces put together and in place.  There are still a few tweaks to be done here and there, but this is the general idea of how the building will top out.  I tried a second main entry, but didn't really like it much more than the first one... so that just looks like a blank wall for now.  I have another plan that I'll try tomorrow.  Here is tonight's progress for now:

Have a great evening!
JB
