Hi,
Im trying to figure out why there is a color discrepency between 3dsmax preview of the image texture Im using and the real texture image.

In the screenshot below the left side is the preview texture in 3DSMax and the right side is the actual texture.  As you can see something has happened to it to make it washed out and not like the original texture at all.  Im trying to learn texturing but if 3dsmax keeps changing the appearance of the textures that I create then I have no way of knowing what they will look like when I create them.

Help appreciated.

In a word..Gamma.

It looks as though it's switched off.  Check this tutorial out for a better explanation:

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

Thanks for the assist.  I had turned it on and had it at 2.2 as I've been taught that when trying to match up the grid squares of the background with the solid box that you should let your eyes go out of focus and then try to match the colors to be real close to the same.  But I hadn't adjusted the bitmap in and out portion.  I changed them all to 1.8 as per the tuts explanations and it's definitely closer, though not exact I think it will do.  Perhaps I might get more consistant colorings of the buildings in the game now, before they were as off as the image in my original post or maybe a bit more  :o
