Honestly, Jon, I'm running out of compliments here! This looks fantastic.

Have you considered extending gabled roofs to the backs of the friezes? That might be a nice detail to add.

Can't wait for this university pack to be released!!

oldrogue

Nofunk kind of sums it up for me also......man it's hard to think of new superlatives for your work.....wish I could think of something constructive to add to the project  "$Deal"$, however since I can't will sit back and enjoy your creations..

I remember the talk about big changes.....aahhhh a little intrigue always livens up an old man's time.........

I like what you've got here... but the roof seems like it's missing something...

Interestingly, this building looks a little like the courthouse in my home town, Wheaton, IL...

Here are a couple of pics:

This courthouse was converted to a college, National Louis University, for about 10 years.  The area is now being modified for some high end condo's... pretty neat IMO!

Btw, this building is on the national register (DuPage County Courthouse, third from the bottom).

Check out Abelfarei!

Wow, it's been a while since I've commented here. The law school is a very stately building. The name's not bad either (thanks). However, if I may make a suggestion: the F. Edgren School of Law (F being the initial of my last name and Matthew just sounding a bit odd, but either way, really cool school). I'll be interested to see what ends up happening with the front entrance. I agree with CabraBuitre about the roof seeming a bit bare (but, knowing you, I have the feeling there's more to come). I'd like to leave a more detailed message, but I'll take a look back through the previous versions before I do that.

As great as always, although I like this one a bit more than you others.
I think this building needs some chimneys and maybe a nice spire on the roof :)

Thundercrack:  Thank you!  I have no intentions of stopping anytime soon...  :D

Nofunk:  Nice to see you again and thanks!  I probably will make some gables as you mentioned.  Right now I'm still debating a lot of the extra stonework on the back side, so I'll probably wait until I figure out whether that will stay or not.

Duane:  Thank you!

Pat:  Thanks!  I'd mail you a towel, but I'm starting to wonder if any of these packages are actually making it to Wisconsin or not...  :D

CabraBuitre:  Thanks!  The roof isn't finished yet... I still have some detailing to do eventually.  I like that court house... reminds me a bit more of the Olson building I did for the first set.

Matt:  Thank you!  Since it's your name, I won't argue if you'd prefer the F instead.  ;)

Tag One:  Thanks!  There will definitely be some chimneys... maybe some small dormers as well.  I'm trying to stay away from any kind of large spire or dome on this one though.  I just don't want to overdo it with those...  :D

I think I finally have a front door on this!  It's probably not quite as grand as I had hoped for, but I think it fits pretty well.  I also managed to get the two rear entries finished.  While I was at it, I touched up a bunch of random things here and there.

I still have two side entries to add, but those shouldn't take long.  The back sides of the three wings still need some adjustments made, but it depends on whether I keep all the columns and extra stonework back there or not.  The back side of a building wouldn't normally have that much detailing on it, but at the same time I'm starting to wonder if it really is the back side.  This is almost turning into a building with two front sides instead.  So we'll see... I don't know yet.  Still a lot of detailing to do everywhere.  I'm hoping to have some statues or gargoyles up on the final tower area of the front as well, which is why that may still look a little blank.  We'll see how that goes...  ::)

lookin better Jon.....I think the front door looks much better....like it where and how it is......bout the only thing that would make it look more impressive would be a metalic texture like huge brass or copper doors which wouldn't be practical......oh, that and maybe a couple of The Swiss Guard Pikemen flanking it ;D......hmmm how big a lot is it going to be on.....?..... an avenue on the "front" side and a street on the the opposite or mabey opening directly onto a quad?   more and more possibilites.......this project of yours is certainly causing alot of us to sit and daydream about what we will do with your creations.

Looking good. I like the idea for a clock tower or something. And, perhaps a parking lot full of Jaguars and Mercedes would be appropriate as well. :P

Zaphod

just curious, I was wondering if you were working on those apartment things from way back? or were those released?

Anyways, nice bat. It really looks like it could work as an "old main" kind of structure. Maybe it could be one of the dominating structure on some sort of central quad, along with the other buildings you've worked on and maybe some kind of black sheep modern thing.

re: the "Dun Arena", you might be interested to know that here in New Brunswick there actually is a Sir James Dunn Arena in the town of St. Andrews by-the-Sea.

Also re: the "Killam Hospital"; when I was an intern in Halifax, one of the residents that I worked with was a Dr. Barry Death who did spend some time at the Killam. He insisted that his name was pronounced "Deeth" but we all called him Dr. Death behind his back. Not surprisingly he chose a rather benign specialty (physical medicine and rehabilitation). I'm pretty sure that most patients would not want to hear that their surgeon's name was "Dr. Death"  ;D :D

To get completely off topic, there was a group of of orthodontists in Halifax when I was in training whose names were Drs. Precious, Darling and Lovely. For a while they also had a fourth partner whose name was Dr. Brilliant.

All of this is true!!

It seems, simdad, in that case, the occupation chose them, rather than the other way around. :P

There's something missing from the law building... where's that sense of expensiveness? It just doesn't... loom... much to me. :P

Duane:  Thanks!  I'm not real sure on the lot size yet, but it's shaping up to be closer to the Fuhrmann size... around 7x4 or 5.

TopCliff:  Thanks!  You can put as many parking lots as you like in that area.  That's what this whole "modular" thing is all about!  ;)

Pat:  Thanks you!

Zaphod:  Cycledogg was working on foundations for the apartment sets, but hasn't been around a whole lot lately.  Then they kind of took a back seat when I started making the push to get the starter set for this project finished.  They'll resurface eventually, I'm sure.

Simdad:  There's so much coincidence in your post that it scares me a little bit!   What in the world goes on up there in Halifax anyway?   :D

SA:  There's a lot missing still... I know what you mean, though.  Nothing about this building is coming easy this time around.  I'll get there with it sooner or later.

I decided to do a bit of lotting this morning.  I wanted to get a couple of the newer ones done so I could include the textures in the first pack and maybe avoid having to update it later.  These are basically done, although I'll have to export the dorm again.  Stupid light leaks!  ::)

The landscaping is pretty minimal on these, which I felt was appropriate for the more modern look of the buildings.  And by the way, the driveways are not part of the lots... just there to get power to them.  There's a few little tweaks to do here and there yet, but nothing major I don't think.  I may set up the other dorm to export before I leave for work this afternoon, but I still have to fix a couple things with that one.  So it depends on how far I can get with that.

Nice. Those dorms look like they could go anywhere, not just a university. I can't wait to make my own university. Oh, and isn't there going to be a hall or building named after me?

The law school is great! It's huge and dark, perfect for a law school. :D The lotting on the buildings looks good too. I'd be jealous of anyone who gets to go there, because of all the greenery (that's one downside to going to an urban university, too much concrete and asphalt).

I agree with Leo that the dorms could go anywhere. Payce-Rooker Hall would look good as a public housing project, with a few tweaks here and there.

TopCliff, I think we all want something named after us. don't worry, JB will probably make enough stuff for the uni pack for us to have things named after us.

But I think Jeronij needs a bulding first, he is the person who made this site.

thundercrack83

These buildings looks absolutely spectacular, my friend! And congratulations to those who got the naming honors, too!

Jasoncw

Wow, at first I thought those dorms were too thin, but I went on Google Earth and they really are that thin.

JBSimio

TopCliff:  Thanks!  Patience my young friend... I have to make the right buildings to fit with the right names... ;)

John:  Thank you!  I guess being in Michigan, I'm just very used to seeing trees everywhere.  These towers may very well make an appearance as R$ growables as well... just with some different lotting.

Dragonshardz:  Good to see you again!  Yes, Jeronij needs a building... tough name to work with though...  :D

Thundercrack:  Thank you!

Jason:  Good to see you again too!  Yeah, gotta love these shotgun dorms... a hallway with a room on each side, and that's it.  Back when a dorm room was just a room...  :D  If anything, I'd say the space between the towers is probably a bit much, but I let the paths dictate that part for once.

So I don't have anything new to show tonight.  I have the other dorm set to render shortly.  I thought I'd have a go at that set of ivy covered walls that had been promised a while back.  It seemed like an easy way to be productive.  Unfortunately, I either still don't know how to make foundations, or I don't know how to mod them properly.  I somehow ended up with a self leveling lot.  &sly  So I guess I'll come back to that later...  ::)

In the meantime... I have personal news.  Most of you faithful readers know that I'm the food service director at a YMCA camp.  This is essentially like a kitchen manager anywhere else, except that I have several kitchens instead of just one and also have no sales or profits to worry about.  I find out how many kids are coming each week and I make sure they get fed while they're here.  What I probably have never bothered to really explain is that I don't technically work for the camp.  I actually work for a management company that the camp contracts with.  This company runs food service for school districts, camps, colleges, vending operations, "meals on wheels" programs, corporate cafeterias, etc etc etc.  I've actually been with them for a little over 8 years now.  OK... that's the background.  (Getting a little long winded again, aren't I?)

My news is that sometime in the next 3-5 months, I will be leaving camp and Michigan.  I'm going to be transferred into one of the college accounts (rather ironic, huh?) sometime before summer.  The exact time frame is still a bit undetermined for a couple reasons.  The biggest reason is that the company needs to hire someone and then I need to train them to take my place here.  I'm not sure specifically which college I'm going to just yet, but it will most likely be somewhere in California.  We have at least two there right now that need directors and there will probably be a couple more by next fall... so it's hard to say for sure at this point.  I should have a better idea about that part in another week or so.  Anyway... that's my big change coming up.  It's a good thing really.  While I enjoy the camp life, I've done it for quite a while now and it's started to burn me out a little bit.  I'm ready for something a little different with maybe a little more structure to it.  There is also a lot more catering involved where I'm headed, which is something I've always enjoyed but don't get to do much of here.  So yeah... there you have it.  I guess I'll be trading snow like this for earthquakes...  :D
