No, That's the Manhattan Bridge, I was working on the Williamsburg Bridge

The weird thing is, I'm working on the Manhattan Bridge.  I started it awhile ago.

I wanted to do the Hell Gate Bridge too, but apparently, we can't make 2-tile-wide rail bridges, and I really don't have time to do experimental modding.

jeronij

We can of course make two tile width railroad bridges, but what we need is a connector piece that allows two separate land railroads to join into the bridge. The TsingMa bridge in the DevEx has four railroads which do perfectly work, so I think the trick is the puzzle piece and not the bridge. Also, some special placement should be necessary. Perhaps the bridge should be drawn as an avenue or highway bridge, and then connected to the land railroads using the puzzle piece.

It would be great to see more bridge models. You can also consider to make the bridge different to the reality, or at least one version, and make it a road bridge or an avenue bridge... just a suggestion

Question to Fukuda regarding the Millau Viaduct.

Do you mind if I remodelled this bridge? I really like your model but after seeing and photographing the bridge from about every angle in real life and drove over it, I noticed some unaccuracies in your model. I want to do the bridge real justice and try to model a close to exact copy of it :P

Great work guys  ()stsfd() How about tower bridge???

Question is, which Tower Bridge? I know of the famous hydraulic cable Tower Bridge spanning the River Thames, but what of the shining gold Tower Bridge, erected in 1935, crossing the Sacramento River? Let's make up our minds, shall we? :P
Best movie of all time: Ferris Bueller's Day Off. If you disagree, Cameron will send your car over a cliff.

Please, call me Leo.  I quote John Lennon now, a great musician and philosopher. Particularly, one of his songs: You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope someday you join us, and the world will live as one.

Seeing as the London Tower Bridge is the more famous of the two [c'mon, I've never heard of Sacramento's Tower Bridge before you told us about it just then. :P], that'd be the natural assumption. Also, the requesting author [jayo] is British. ;)

I posted these originally in my BAT thread, but I thought I would post them here as well to draw on the talent of those that are particularly interested in bridges (and who know about their modelling/modding). The first was my first attempt, and the second is its current form that was made using IDs from Jeronij and by copying and editing the CSX Kwanyoni bridge plugin file. I should add that this is my first time actually working with the reader, so as far as I know everything seems to have worked (aside from the lights which don't need to be there).

Swamper77

If you don't want the lights, just remove those props from the Type21 Exemplars. I believe their ID reference is 0x69AD0000, so just delete those lines and Re-Index the LotConfig settings for the T21 Exemplars. For your bridge, you only need the T21's that correspond to the supports to create effect of the water colliding with the bridge supports.

Excellent  ¡¡¡¡ I see you got the T21 to work  &apls ¡¡¡

Swamper77: Thanks for the help with the lights (the ID for these lights wasn't 69AD0000, but I found it in the LE, though I can't remember what it was now). I think I'm finally recognizing the things I'm looking at in the reader and have whittled down things to just what I need.

Jeronij: I did, and it is largely thanks to you.  I think I am pretty close to having this thing to a point where I might call it finished. There are just two other things I would like to ask: how do you work with pictures (jpegs, pngs, etc) in the reader. Right now, since I used the Kwanyoni bridge controller as a template, the picture is of it, but I'm not sure how to change it. Second, would you, or some other people, be interested in taking a final look at the properties before I even consider releasing it/putting it in candidacy for release?

Again, thanks for the help with all of this.

jeronij

Hello Matt,

You can send me a PM with a link to a downloadable version of the bridge and I will check/test it  ;)

To create the icon, you can extract the existing PNG ( right click and extract, but I think you will need Fishman to convert it into something editable  ::) ) and edit it with your favourite paintshopping program, save it as png and insert it into your mod ( right click and insert file). You will have to manually change the Group and Instance to match the existing png, and when done you must delete the old png. I hope this makes sense  ;)

If you have troubles extracting the existing png, you can make a print screen of the reader showing the png, and paste it into your paintshop program, and cut it and edit it there, but you must pay attention to the dimensions of the png, and dont change them ¡¡

Or, if you want to save time, I can send you a png and you can edit and insert it the way I said in the first paragraph  ;D

If three stooges has used another bridge as a template wouldn't he have to reIID it so it didn't clash with the original?

jeronij

If he didnt, he will find out that the bridge does not show up... but if he carefully followed the tutorial, this should not happen  $%Grinno$%  ;)

I made a bridge icon template that looks as close as possible as the Maxis one, attached is a PNG file with layers for Macromedia Fireworks and a PSD file for all programs that can read Photoshop files. Just remove the bitmaps for the Garabit Viaduct and replace them with a screenshot of your bridge (86x54 pixels), placed behind the frames. You need to remove three pixels of every corner of your screenshots, otherwise they won't have those round corners. The shadows are "borrowed" from an underlaying Maxis bridge icon; if you reduce everything to one layer in the end, the icon should look fine. :)

Hi all....

well, ive killed about 4 hours trying to go through the bridge tutorial with no luck.  Here's what I get after using the material editor...

I tried road, rail, glr, etc.

Even then, I tried to copy the box (with bad textures) to no avail as well.....so I cant even get 3 pieces.

Any help would be appreciated!

jeronij

Mmmm... this seems to be more related to modelling issues, and not to bridge making  ::) .... did you add a planar UVMap after applying the texture ?¿ If you did, remove it and add a new fresh one... it may help. I cant clearly see how you went into this situation if you strictly followed the instructions in the tuto... they quite straight forward... ;)

not quite sure what ya mean by planar UV Map  ???.....but I'll have a look.  But i can say that i followed the steps in the tutorial, because i dont know how to do anything otherwise.... :)

Perhaps something incorrect in the settings or not installed correctly?  This problem appears right after applying the texture.

jeronij

Make sure you create a 16x16 plane with the less possible amount of segments. 1segment width and 1 segment lenght. It should help to avoid unnecesary geometry.

You should apply a UVMap modifier (select you plane, go to the modifiers tab and scroll the list until you find it) to your plane, before or after applying the material, so you can control better the placement of the texture.

Reading a few tutorials about how to create basic models for the game would also help you to understand all this MAX related stuff  ;)

I hope this helps.

If you are talking about the fact that the texture appears crooked, it should be a simple fix (I've noticed something similar myself): try making a preview of the model (maybe add a colored plane behind it so you can see the road better) and it should straighten out. If that is the case, then it is just a thing with the BAT that shows the textures as being a bit off (if not, I may have misunderstood your question). Hope this helps.
