Duane:  Thank you!  I agree that the older midrise buildings seem awfully under represented in the game.  I guess I just like to be the unofficial "niche filler"...  ::)  I've read a few things about the downfall of street cars (or mass transit in general really) as well.  It's always interesting to try to sift through things and try to figure out what really happened.  Of course, there are so many facts skewed towards different viewpoints that it's probably near impossible to ever really know.  But still interesting just the same.

Hogmeister:  Yep... that sums it up pretty well!  :D

Derry:  Thank you!  Today's visit was a rough one... I think I'm developing a tolerance to the numbing agents or something...  :D

Pat:  Thanks!  I know... but I had to poke fun somewhere in that post.  It just happened to fall to you... sorry.  ;)

I got a little further with this today.  The base went fairly well, although I've skipped the main entry for the moment.  The upper two floors were a bit more of a job, but I think it's getting there.

The upper concrete textures in particular are probably too dark at the moment, but it's hard to tell until I decide on some brick textures.  I'll probably go back and finish the entry tomorrow and then start in on the 13th floor... which also begins to serve as the massive cornice around the top of this one.  That's about it for tonight!

You have really captured the heart of this building; it's your eye for detail that makes all the difference combined with real talent  :) . It amazes me that they pulled this building down 20 years ago and much of the site is still a vacant lot, that's the sort of action that really kills a city, when are they ever going to learn.

It's incredible the details you have put into this one.  It looks just like the picture.
Hogmeister, not only do you have a lot of pictures but you have the history to go with them.

awesome building, looks alot like some of the older ones in boston  ;D

details are fantastic JB. &apls

Diggis

The detail around the top looks great Jon.

Oh man...this one is going to get special treatment when it comes time to place it.....at first glace..."oh a midrise" then you notice the detail (both of the RL and the model)....a real attention getter....I think I'll have my simpapers put prospective clients on notice that this will be shown by appointment only and we will be selective about the sim-companies that move in ()stsfd()

Jon, Duane summed it up best  Its all good and I dont mind at all, when ever you feel the need to pick on me go for it  ;D

Hogmeister:  Thank you!  It really is sad to think of how many buildings have been destroyed for little or no real reason.  Such a waste... to put it mildly!

Robin:  Thank you!  The details make it much more confusing to work with, but the results are so worth it.

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  I imagine this style could be found all over the place.  At the core, it's really a fairly generic building... until all those details everyone seems to like.   :D

Diggis:  Thanks!

Duane:  Thank you!  I guess that means I'll have to be pretty selective when I write the story for this one too. ;)

Pat:  Thanks!  I'll try to spread the picking around a little though... I'd hate to single you out like that!  $%Grinno$%

Well, I didn't get as far as I had hoped today.  For starters, I think I might have taken a nap... I'm not completely sure if I really fell asleep for a few minutes or not though.   :D  Then I spent a while trying to plan a rather confusing trip in July that included coming back to Michigan for a class reunion and then going to England for a bit before heading back to "Unknown city," CA.  (I don't recommend trying to plan a trip without a starting and ending destination by the way... it's kind of a waste of time)  But I did get some rough prices sorted out for now anyway.  Then there was this really cool sunset tonight, so I had to drop everything and stare at that for a while.

Then at some point, I finally decided to start working on the building some more.  Talk about ADD, huh?  :D  Anyway, the upper cornice/13th floor is giving me fits at the moment, so I'm leaving that off for tonight.  I did manage to get the main entry mostly finished.  I also did a lot of minor tweaks here and there.  Then I did a little math and realized that I could make this a W2W corner building after all... or at least close enough to get away with.  So I added two more columns to the east side and refit everything for that.

I think this is going to end up being sort of a U shaped building... although one side will be shorter than the other.  Hopefully that will make more sense in a day or two.  Until then... have a good night!

This is really progressing well. I like the idea of a "U" shape. And your attention to details is amazing.
Those upper floors just add so much class to what you've already made. This is one building I really want

hi jon hows you doing my friend,i see your doing awesome work as allways &apls

Hogmeister

This is looking better by the day, so much progress, I am well impressed. The main entrance is excellent and I eagerly await your decision on the final shape, after all, it's got to fit in with the game and be an outstanding asset to do justice to all your hard work. I have been saving your previews and expanding them to study the details, there is so much good stuff to see.   &apls

don't worry i get ADD moments all the time. My favorite one i was argueing with my friend and in mid sentence i just said "O! are you going to eat that or can i have it?".

building continues to look awesome, and that entrance is great.

Derry:  Thank you!  I'm glad you like it.

Jacky:  Hi... nice to see you!  Thanks!

Hogmeister:  Thanks!  This picture is just for you then... look familiar? ;)

Pat Riot:  Thank you!  Yeah... that sounds like something I would do.  This is the story of my life on many days:  :D

I spent most of the morning finalizing the shape for this building.  I'm pretty happy with how it fits together so far.  Next, I need to decide how many details to carry over to the rear sections.

The "roof" is just there for a visual right now.  The final roof will still be another level higher.  I'm still trying to work out the final cornice... maybe I'll be ready to show that part by tonight.  (I hope)

Mike:  I thought you might like that one.  It also goes to show how much detail still gets lost in the game view.  Why do I keep doing this to myself?!?  :'(

Pat:  I've used that icon as an avatar in other places.  (Hmmm... that gives me an idea actually)  That angle is just the perspective view in BAT twisted around.  It's not an actual render at all. ;)

JosefBrisko:  Thank you!  Nice to see you, by the way.  ;)

Pat Riot:  Thanks!

OK... I think I finally got this 13th floor cornice to look like something usable.  It's still not quite what I had hoped for, but I'm satisfied enough with it to continue on.  Besides that, the roof is now the right shape and size and I even went ahead and put it in the right place!   :D

Next up is a test of sorts... I could use a little feedback and opinions if you all don't mind.  I'm planning to square off the back to some extent, but I'm not sure how far to go with it.  Here is the example:

The blue box represents my first thought and still the direction I'm leaning in.  If I square it there, it still leaves some room for an alley and loading areas or whatever else in the back.  The red box is an alternative that could also work well.  I would cover most of what is left of the lot if that's the one I go with.  So what do you think... blue or red?  Also... two stories or three for the base in the back?

Next up is to finish wrapping the upper three levels (the new cornice being one of them) around the rest of the building.  The other levels in the back will be a little more plain looking.
