XiahouDun:  Thanks!  I'm glad I could play a small part in that...  :D

RebaLynn:  Thank you!

Pat:  Thanks!   So, you're saying my ego is getting out of hand, is that it?   :D

Dustin:  Thank ou!

Edge:  Yay indeed!  &bis&

Bat:  Thank you!

Alright... now everybody settle down...  %%Order?/  You don't really have to settle down if you'd rather not... I really just wanted to use that smiley for some reason.  :D  I started on the new one... again... today.  I actually started yesterday, but didn't really like what I had come up with.  So I started over.  This is still a pretty early look and quite a bit will probably change, but here's what I've been up to:

Not really to much to say about it just yet.  It will be another corner building although it won't be wall to wall this time.  I just couldn't make it fit without screwing up the proportions of the building... so this one will just have to stand alone a little bit.

Praise be unto you, that looks fantastic. (I just wanted an excuse to use ye olde English)

I hope very much so that this shall make a very interesting structure, and will be very much delighted herewith to watch it develop, for watching you develop these works of art is pleasant unto us.

A building like that is one that deserves to stand on its own. Those are some rather large arches. I'm looking forward to seeing how you'll fill them in. In other news, that little office building I've been working on... I decided to take your advice with the windows. However, it will require enough remodelling that I'm just going to start over. Hope all is well with you and I'll look forward to seeing this develop.

Jippy! the brooks will make its way to my business quarters soon &apls

The new building looks very nice too. I especialy like huge groundfloor windows and the extemely slender colllums on the corners. Just goes to show they have no support purpose what so ever, just deco.

And everybody knows I LÓVE deco! :D

I wonder what you will do with the top of the building and what type of textures you will use.
But time will reveal all those :)

Building Better Buildings Better

JBSimio

OK... now that I'm not running out of the house like I was this morning, I can try to catch up here.

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  I like to rock...

NASCAR Guy:  What?  ???

Pat:  Well, alright then... I guess I'll take it.  Thank you!

Fledgeling:  We here at JBSimio, Inc. would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your kind words and sentiments as you have so eloquently expressed them.

Matt:  Thank you!  The entry for this one is a rather staggering three story arch.  I'd love to see what that looks like from the inside.  I'm sorry to hear you'll have to start your building over, but hopefully it will be worth it in the end.  (Hopefully it will also go quicker for you the second time around and not be as painful as it sounds!)

Strech:  Thanks!  The corner pieces are certainly decorative, although there is enough bulk in the squared off portion to bear the load... it's just notched out a bit.  I'm headed towards a limestone like finish... but that's a ways off.  The top floors aren't even close yet... there are 3-4 more floors above all this that will form the crown.

Pat Riot:  I'll try to keep the waiting time down.  I kind of like the new logo too... ;)

Derry:  Thank you!  I'll gladly partake in a cuppa with you!

Pat:  Thanks!  (and you're welcome too!)

Hogmeister:  Thank you!

Whew... I hope I didn't miss anyone.  If I did, rest assured the lawyers will come and straighten things out later.  But for now... on to the update!

I filled in the center windows on the 12th and 12th floors.  I fixed a bunch of things with around the base... the shop windows, the columns between them, added some details, whatever else I fixed down there.  I started adding some of the many cornice pieces.  Um... what else?  Fixed the corners where they transition to the brick... and also roughed in some of the rear walls just to give an idea of where this is headed.

There are quite a few details that aren't very visible right now.  They'll show up much better when I start texturing, but for now I'm only using 3 shades of grey to represent everything that will be limestone.  So... a lot of things are blending together right now.  But it's coming along...

Nice work. And I think I am starting to get the hang of this texturing stuff. With master's like you for insperation, I have to keep driving harder and harder.

Hmm....for the stores, any chance you'll ever put in some big brand names, like Starbucks, Burger King, McDonalds, Victoria Secret, etc...

I know, I read somewhere that you once said that you wouldn't because you have a small-town theme, but it looks to me the buildings you have been creating lately are suitable for much larger cities...and I think its more realistic to have those sort of stores.

On another now, this building is my favorite so far!  :satisfied:

threestooges

I'm not too worried about starting the thing over again. It had a few design problems that sort of plagued me from the start and now I know what to avoid. It served as a good learning experience so it is already worth it. It should go faster, and I think I may try to keep it to a 3x3 this time around (the first one was around 4x4). Also, in the spin I'm putting on the building, do you have a good way to make a hedge, or is it just a rectangle/cylinder with a texture? It's my spring break now so I'll probably have some time to run it through.

Congratulations on the release of the Brooks Building. That's a keeper in my region for sure.

Lastly, I'm looking forward to seeing what limestone looks like on that building. For as many details as I can see now, the fact that there are more that are hidden is just amazing for this building. Also, what's the latest on the concert hall/performing arts building for the school project?

Hope all is well. See you next time.
-Matt

Strechnitz

Well like I said before, I love deco! ;)

The progress is looking very good, and I like the sound of limestone. Good luck with the rest of the building

limestone...thats old school  ;D
Small detail, but I love the corner entrance. Just like the other one, this has some great detailing.

JBSimio

RebaLynn:  Well naturally I missed you terribly... but I did respond to you the last time you were here.  ;)  I hardly consider myself a master at textures... they're still the hardest thing for me to get right... but thank you!

Pat:  Thank you!

Baconrocky:  Thanks!  I don't know if this one will get any brand names or not... but I may start doing it on some others soon.  It's still not a look I'm overly fond of, but it could happen at some point.

Matt:  Thank you!  You can see a lot of the details, but they don't show up as well as they should just yet.  I probably didn't say that as well as I meant to.  The concert hall (and basically all of Pack Two) is kind of on hold for the moment until I get moved and resettled.  Right now, I know where everything stands... and I don't want to lose my place when my free time is so up in the air.  For hedges, the best way I've found is a method SimGoober uses.  It essentially involves making a bunch of small boxes and scattering them in the general form you want.  I know that's a crappy description, so I'll explain it to you better when it's not so far past bedtime.   :D

Strech:  Thank you!

Pat Riot:  Yeah... I'm kind of old, after all...  $%Grinno$%  I'm glad you like the corner entry.  It's not part of the real building, but I kind of liked the idea.

Well, I managed to get the 14th floor added... at least the limestone faces anyway.  It took a lot longer than I expected.  Keeping all the measurements right for this part was a lot more confusing than I had hoped.  There are just too many darn pieces for that cornice that turns into a ledge.  At the same time, I discovered that the brick parts I roughed in yesterday are the wrong sizes... so they've been left off until I get back to changing them.  Anyway... here's a look:

Next up is the penthouse level... I think I lied when I said how many floors I had left to go.  The penthouse (floor 15) will basically be the last one, although it will be a bit taller than the floor heights on the rest of the building.  But anyway... I'm babbling... so I'll stop... right about now... really... I'm going to shut up...

now

JB
