My nice CAM city has his mass-transit system mega overcrowded like everything is working @600%. Now i read somewhere in the forum you can edit the buildings to have a higher capacity. I've been searching but i cant find the thread anymore :S.

Can someone guide me in the right direction, or link the desired tool?

thx

xxdita

can be at first, but it's very useful once you get the hang of it.

DutcHmaNinc

yeah i've edited my buildings :D ... seems i need to replop everything though ... bleh. Ow well thx for your quick help xxdita.

cammo2003

yeah, modding station capacities is pretty simple, I've been doing it for ages (to create stations with ridiculous capacities such as 400,000  :P).

Only two properties at most actually need to be touched (Transit Switch Traffic Capacity and Catalog Capacity (or something like that). The first is what the simulator uses, the second is what's displayed in the UI if I recall correctly.

Many of the ordinary stations I use in central cities have capacities of 65,535.

You recall it quite correctly!

I have a few questions on how to edit the transit station capacity:
1. Most of them have .sc4lot and .sc4desc files, both contains Transit Switch traffic capacity, which files (or both? but they seem to have different initial value) should I edit?
2. Sometimes I am not able to find catalog capacity, where else can I edit the displaying of the capacity of the station in the game?

If anyone can make a quick guide about how to change the transit station capacity, I would really appreciated it.
Thank you very much

Andreas

1.) For ploppable lots, the Building Exemplar file from the SC4Desc has been included into the SC4Lot file by the Lot Editor. You can safely delete the SC4Desc for ploppables (if they hold a copy of the Building Exemplar file!). The superfluous Builing Exemplar file will always show 0x00000000 for the Item Icon property, so you can easily see if it's actually associate to a lot or not.

2.) Catalog Capacity is used for displaying purposes only, i. e. in the menu description. Usually, civic lots have a variable monthly cost due to the budget slider, so the value that is displayed in the menu can be specified in the Catalog Capacity property.

3.) For changing the capacity of a station, you need to edit the Transit Switch Traffic Capacity property in the Building Exemplar file.

Thank you,

I have tried to edit the lot's capacity using SC4Tool.  However, for some reasons, the lot I edited the first time reflects the changes I made, but the second times doesn't seem like so. It is the same as original lot.
To verify it, I download "I lives reader" and open the lot I modified and it seems to have the values I intended.  Why was it now shown in the game?
I even removed the file from the plug in, run the game and move it back and run the game again, but have no success.
Please help, thank you again.

xxdita

Check for duplicate files. Remove the one you know you've fixed, then check in game to see if the station still shows up in the menu. If so, you'll need to scan your Plugins for the duplicate. Just type the name of the lot into the Windows Search bar (make sure you have Search set to scan subfolders as well). Or open notepad, and type in the exact filename of the lot, save that, and run it through Cleanitol.

OnionStrider

xxdita: Thank you for your suggestions.  When I was trying to copy the name of the file into notepad, I found that there were extra .sav file for the lot.
After removing it, the transit lot works the way I intended.
Thank you for all your help.

I follow the steps named on this topic but i cant seem to find Catalog Capacity on the lists.

RippleJet

If a station's building exemplar doesn't include a Catalog Capacity, then it probably isn't used in the item description either, and thus isn't needed.

Tell me which station you'd like to mod, and I'll take a closer look at it.

gabrielbyrnei

Its called   Jasoncw - Medium Train Station

Thanks

RippleJet

That train station does indeed not have the Catalog Capacity.
Instead, the Item Description says "A medium-sized train station with a capacity of 3,250 passengers."

Thus, if you change the Transit Switch Traffic Capacity (which is set at 3,250),
you should also change the Item Description so that the correct capacity is shown there.

Ok, great, feels great to know im not dumb hehe.

Also, can recycling centers, water pumps, etc be edtited too ?
If so, how?

Thanks

Of course they can. ;)
I suppose you want to increase their capacity as well... ::)

In that case...

for Water Pumps:

  • Increase the property Water Produced

for Recycling Centers:

  • Increase the property Recycling center percent reduction
  • Increase the property Recycling center population served
  • Increase the property Catalog Capacity

In both cases you probably also want to:

  • Increase the property Budget Item: Cost
  • Increase the property Plop Cost
  • Increase the property Bulldoze Cost

Otherwise you'd be creating pure cheating lots which won't be as fun in the long run in the game... ::)

yup, i want to keep it as real as possible, and recycling center on SC4 are from realistic, to have a good recycling system running you would need like 8 recycling centers for a 150.000 city.

Whats that property "Population Served" ? What changes if i increase or decrease? Considering that the percent reduction is the "capacity"

Thanks
PS: Where can i find Maxis original buildings?

RippleJet

The in-game recycling center serves a population of 25,000 and reduces the garbage by 20%.
So, yes, in order to enable a 20% garbage reduction for a population of 150,000, you would need 6 recycling centers.
For a 100% garbage reduction you'd need a whopping 30 recycling centers...
