Yuppers that is right I said Poor Mans Hash and no its not that type of hash either  :D... Bad joke sorry I couldn't resist it.. Anyways what I mean here is that is a simple dish to make and if you understand what I like you will know the secret ingredient already lol....

Yuppers that is right its SPAM and here is anther one of my spamciepes for you all to enjoy....

Simple ingredients needed and little prep time...

  • 1 whole onion (any size or color to your likings, I prefer the White Onion as its
    nice & big)
  • 1 (16oz) Spam
  • 1 (16oz) bag of southern style hash browns
  • 1 stick of butter
  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • A pinch of garlic salt also

Directions of prep...

  • Preheat your oven to 350 now...

  • Of course like any good chef make sure you wash your hands and have a clean working surface, Duh!

Take the onion that you have selected and finely dice it and put it into a bowl and now take the Teriyaki Sauce and poor it over the onions and let marinate for about 5-10 minutes depending on taste here...

Now take the spam and finely dice this as well and also put into a bowl... Key here is you do not want large chunks of spam cubes, the smaller the better but not to small...

Take a quarter stick of the butter and place into a hot skillet...  Take the Onion's and sauté the onion till they turn opaque or white and then at this time add the spam cubes into the skillet...

Cook the spam but don't burn it...  Now open the bag of Southern Style Hash Browns and it to the skillet... Now take a lid and place it over the skillet to steam the food...  Let steam for about 5-10 minutes... Carefully watch it so it don't stick to the skillet...

Now take a pan, roughly a 11x13 cake pan and take remaining stick of butter and grease the bottom and sides...  Take your Mixture off the stove and put into the pan and stick it into the oven for about 30 minutes or until a nice golden brown texture appears on the top...

Serve and Eat!!!!  Makes roughly 6 servings...

It would make a nice counterpart indeed to the L.E.O. They say you're supposed to change your oil regularly, but hey the stick is spread over 6 servings so no worries on that. Good use of Spam too. I don't cook with it too often, but it's still good stuff. The pics look good too. Nice that you showed some of the process as well.

Pat

Hey Matt thanks!!!  I was thinking the counter part cause its pretty basic and the use of both onions and meat product err or fish in leo's case... But basic idea, my poor wife was confussed in why I was taking the pics the other night and then I reminded her about the recipes we got here...
