Looks great dude. It reminds me of a Maxis building though . . . I forget the name, but I think it was also based off the Rookery Building. Good luck with it.

Welcome back my friend.....good to see you devoting your time to two of the things that mean the most to me.....food and SC4...I'm not really sure that is the correct order tho ::).
Enjoy everything and know that many of us are with you in spirit, we all wanted to come in person, but at the last minute it was decided that the fights for the restroom would be too distracting to your batting!
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

I heard from my godmother who lives nearby there that extensive renovations are coming to the rookrey building.  It really is a neat building, and i have no doubt you can do it justice in its recreation  JB  ;)

Excellent choice, the Buder Building needs some more companions.

Caspervg:  Thank you!  There are a lot of things about this building that really interested me... the curved windows being just one of those.

Bat:  Thank you!  You sure do seem to like those untextured walls!  :D

Derry:  Thanks!  I really have to find out what happened to those stations... I kind of lost track of them, to be honest.  &ops

Tag_One:  Thank you!

TopCliff:  Thanks!  I don't recall seeing a Maxis building like the Rookery... but it could very well be in there somewhere.  I know there are still Maxis buildings that I have never used!  ;)

Pat:  I'm glad you were so happy!  Sorry I kept you waiting (again)... ;)

Duane:  Thank you!

Sim Shady:  Thanks!  It's good to hear that the real building is still being well kept.  I really like it and will have to go see it next time I'm in Chicago.

Gn_leugim:  Thanks!

Things have been a bit quiet over here lately... oops!  Actually, I found that I have trouble staying motivated to BAT on this laptop.  I don't know if it's just the smaller screen or the key board or what... but I just can't go for long stretches like I did on the home computer.  I am still tinkering with things, though... so don't think I've disappeared or quit in favor of "other threads"  :D

Anyway... here's an update on the Rookery Building.  Most of the front elevation is in place now.  I still need to finish up a little bit with the main entry and add the roof trim around the top... but most everything else is there.

For those that really know this building, you'll soon see that I will be taking some liberties with this one.  Especially with the sides and the back.  So all you purists will either have to curse my name or just remember that I never really do recreations...  ::)  I'll probably get a fair bit more done this weekend, so there will be more to see much sooner this time!

Very interesting building. Let us hope these monthly updates don't become habit. Keep up the great work, and let me know if you want any more "inspiration".

Jon looking real grand here sir and no needs to worry about keeping me waiting as they say all the good things come to who wait!!!

Don't you love taking liberties? I find it easy to recreate somthing perfectly for about 10 minutes, then doors turn into windows, windows turn into walls, then walls turn into untextured planes...alright, thats an exageration, but still.

I love this building, but, considering I love your other work, thats no suprise. Anyway, how is the hotel living going?  :D

threestooges

For those that really know the building, there may be some issues, but for people like me who have never seen the real one before, this looks quite good. As usual, I'll be waiting for the next update of it, but no hurry. As Pat noted above, good things come to those who wait, and for this one, I'm certainly willing to wait a bit. Hope things are well and that hotel life isn't too bad. Take it easy.

TopCliff:  I honestly don't intend to make them a habit, but with everything going on lately it's hard to say what will happen anymore!   :D  I already have a backlog of inspiration, but you'll never hear me turn it down either... send away if you want to!

Pat:  Thank you!

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  I always take liberties... I find that perfect recreations just get too tedious for me.  Plus, I don't have to worry if I can't find pictures of a certain side of the building that way!   :D

Matt:  Thank you!  Actually, hotel life has turned into dorm life.  Apparently my company's inability to make decisions was costing them too much money!  ::)

I managed to mostly wrap up the front elevation today.  The roof trim took forever to sort out, mainly because of all those circular corner pieces.  But I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out.  I started on the sides, although it probably looks like a lot more than it really is.  I mostly just figured out the dimensions and then copied and moved in pieces that I could steal from the front!  :P  I'll have to come back and make the new stuff next time...

Next time I'll try to have an illustration of the two choices for the building's final shape.  I'm still debating that part... so y'all can just help me decide. ;)

That . . . is pure awesomeness my friend. How big do you think this will be, 3x3, 4x4? No matter how big it is, I'll be using it fo show. Later amigo.

Hi Jon,

I've got so into Covington that I kinda forgot you also have a brilliant BAT thread over here!  The Rookery Building is looking good - I'm very impressed with it.  I just wonder how you manage to run a great MD with BIG updates plus do this as well.

However you do it - well done  &apls  &apls  &apls

Pat Riot

The "couldn't find pictures of a certain side" was the best excuse ever, until the invention of the latest google earth. Every other resource is put to shame by the 3d buildings they have, or at least the ones they did in boston.
Its a good thing you don't do 100% recreations, because I doubt anything in real life could be as awesome as your BATs (cept maybe 111 huntington :p) good job on the Rook'.

JBSimio

Leo:  Thank you!  The plan is for this to fit on a 3x3... and it's right on the edge of that now, so it will be close (also known as W2W)  :D

Baconrocky:  Thank you!

Pat:  Thanks!

Paul:  Thank you!  To be honest, I haven't really been doing too well at juggling both threads so far... the MD took over for the past month or so while I waited for that BATting urge to return.  Now is when we'll see if I can keep up on two fronts or not... ;)

Pat Riot:  You have a good point... but it ruins my excuse, so I'm going to pretend you never said it.   :D  Thanks for the kind words!

As you may have noticed, I called some of the monkeys back to work.  Just because the headquarters of Monkey Around Productions is in total disarray doesn't mean that they should have all this time off.  I got tired of giving away free bananas, anyway...

That was basically my not so clever way of saying that I have a second update (in one day, no less!)... I managed to finish off the side elevations for the most part.  There may be one or two minor changes to make, but nothing too huge.  I didn't get around to the comparrison bit that I mentioned earlier, but that will come next time.

And there you have it...

more good work. I was thinking you were gonna do a Odd from Sweden and have El Rail tracks go through those black holes, but this is even better  ;D

JBSimio

Pat Riot:  Thanks!  No tracks running through this one... although that gives me a couple ideas for later ;)

Here is that comparrison I mentioned...

There are some advantages to either option.  With the O Shaped version, it would indeed save some modeling in the light well, but that also means there would be less to see.  The U Shaped version would show everything on certain angles and the large skylight (which is part of the real building) would be visible.  Obviously, this is just roughed in... there are some details that will come about in time no matter which option I go with, but I did this just to get a feel for how much or little would be visible with the two choices.  Please feel free to cast your vote now... ;)
