Hello, Blade.

I wanted to take a moment and let you know how impressed I am with your recent map-making.  You are certainly grown in your skills -- both creative and technical.

I very much enjoy the series of maps you've been releasing and believe you've gotten a good "handle" on making realistic maps -- a skill I've yet to master.

Thank you for sharing your work with the community and I certainly will be following your progress.

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

Hello there Vandy ;D  Long time since we last chatted.  I'm really glad that you like the maps papab2000 and I have been churning out the past couple of months.  Not only are the two of us covering all the major spots around the world, but we're also covering obscure and out of the way areas as well, places where settlements are few and far in between.  It's a way to give the community more than just the usual popular places, imagine what these places might look like if they were developed for human occupation.  A good example of what I mean is the numerous maps Rich and I are currently in the process of making from Australia [Hint Hint everyone ], that will be unleashed on the SC4 community before years end.  At the rate Rich and I are going, we should have a good chuck of the planet mapped :D by the end of 2009.  So there are a lot of goodies coming down the assembly line in the next year so keep an eye out for what the two of us have up our sleeves next   Now if we could only get DEM data for Mars......... :satisfied:

Thanks for dropping by and please do visit more often Vandy.  I've always appreciated your input and insight

Thanks for the update   Look forward to seeing what you do with the map now that you have it. ;D

QuoteTroy, this map of Tokyo look good my friend, excellent work once again

Thanks Arthur.  If everything goes as planned, the Tokyo maps will be released either in next week's uploads, or the week after.  Rich and I still have 2 or 3 of New Zealand Paks plus 2 or 3 more China Map Paks that are ready to go and we want to release these paks to complete the first round for the country's that have been featured.  We want to release the two Tokyo Paks at the same time.  Of course, we will be announcing here or in papab's thread which Map Paks will be released next week

As promised, I have pics of the separate quadrants of the Tokyo maps and, of course, a possible release date   Speaking of which, said release date will be the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving weekend next week.  Reason being is that Rich and I have still have some odds and ends to release first.

Ok, now onto the pics of the four quadrants of Tokyo taken from the original 16x14 large tile map.  Each is the same size, 8x7 large tiles, or 2049x1793, a much more manageable region to develop compared to the monster it was transported from.  Where the 4 quadrants borders meet another's, they line up and match perfectly.

Ok, here are the pics:

Tokyo Northeast

Tokyo Northwest

Tokyo Southeast

Tokyo Southwest

So like I mentioned above, these four maps will be released as two 2-Paks and will arrive around Dec 1 or Dec 2

Thanks for dropping in and make sure to check back and see what's on the release slate in just a few short days   Pictorial for those releases to follow day by day ;)

Pat - Thanks.  And you haven't noticed the banner before ()what()

dadyrghluv - How ya doing?  Haven't heard from you in a long time...not since the Hong Kong map.  I'm glad you dropped by to see that yes, I'm very much still making maps with no end sight :D  I hope you check in more often and take a look-see at what comes off the assembly line next

Simpson - Thanks.  Yes, the Northeast quad of Tokyo is quite intensive with the rivers, more there than in any of the other 3 quads.

lol, i have been around, i mostly lurk now, but i have been paying close attention to my favorite map team. DC was done very well. i d/l'ed soon as i could. the hong kong map was your's, i won't take credit for it. just glad we both could share it, and now we have tokyo, w00t!!

i like the toyama map, with the mix of mountains and water, along with a flat piece to build on. great job  &apls

dadyrghluv - I didn't make the Hong Kong map, I thought you and beskhu3epnm made it, unless you meant it was NHP's map :P  Anyways, I'm glad to hear you've been hanging around and keeping an eye on things.  By the way, how are the kids?  Your youngest should be what? almost 2 now?

M - Stop making maps?!?  Blasphemy I tell ya!  Sorry I won't be able to do that....it's like an elixir that once you try it, you just can't give it up :D  I think that if I ever quit making maps I'd be bouncing off the walls and go stir crazy, maybe even lose my mind :D   I know what you mean though about having indecisions on what maps to play on first.....I can never decide which of my maps I want to play on :P  Which is why I probably don't play all that much anymore.  Indecisions.......

28 pages! That's outrageous! MAN!

Not only that... a naturally superior product. I will have to attend your seminar when I return to see how you manage things... just incredible I must say!

See everyone soon...

That's excellent news Travis ;D  I hope everything works out and you get settled soon.  You have things to learn from me?  Ahhhh...I think you have that backwards my old friend   It is I that has a few tricks to learn from you yet :D  the true master of converting DEM to maps.  I'm just following in those big footsteps of yours :D  Besides, some of your original real world maps from back in the infancy of NHP are still far superior to mine and in fact, NHP's most popular map is your version of NYC which is the most dl'd map in our catalog, by a very large margin
