Newbie Help

Hi guys, I played SC4 way back when it first came out and just recently came back to it.  I started looking for more buildings and I found this place, I was quite impressed with everythign on the LEX.  My questions here are related to a goal of mine: I want to created a Middle Eastern Oil metropolis not unlike what is going on in the UAE.

The first big problem I run into is terrain.  I haven't been able to find any desert terrain replacements and I was wondering if you could suggest me any.  I feel like I just didn't look hard enough.

Also, has anyone done anything similar I could draw inspiration from?  This is going to be my first project and would like some tips.
