So what's the challenge this time? Well, we have to make a power plant, a water source and a new road connection to the outside world. Let's begin with the last one:

The new route N5

The challenge says that we have to build another connection to the outside world from the tile where we began construction. In my case that's tile E. So here is the region map:

The reason that I chose this route is because this will be a main street in future towns Noordhove, Buytenwegh and Loyerburg. The route takes a detour because I had to build this road through another three city tiles form where I was starting. This looked like the best option to me, because the other two options (going through the same tiles as the A10/N10, or going straight into the mountains) were not so good or realistic. One advantage of this option: the southwest part of the region has a main connection now.

The power grid
Electricity is the first thing you need when building a city. Without power, you won't get anywhere. Therefore, we need power plants. But when you're also keeping the envoirment in mind, this could be a tricky task.

Here is Bordertown's major power source:

It's a windmill farm, producing enough energy for 15K sims. The workers live next to the windmill farm (see on the left side of the picture). Bordertown itself uses a small part of that energy; the majority of the electricity is transfered with 150kV high tension lines to Noordhove (in the south, while the name says someting different; Noord=north. This is because it's close to the north border of the state). The transformer (left from the windmills) transforms the electrictity from 21kV to 10kV (local) or 150kV (interlocal)

Zooming out we se also a lot of solar panels. These panels are producing enough energy for 5K sims. One thing that you should notice is that except the 150kV high tension lines in the south, there are no power lines. Thats because the 10kV powerlines are dug under the ground. This is very common at where I come from.

Zooming further out, we see that everyone has electricity.

Water supply
The next thing a city needs is water. Therefore, we build a water supply.

Here it is: our water supply:

There is only one waterpump, but it pumps enough water for 20K sims. The workers of the waterpump are living right next door.

When we zoom further out, we'll actually see nothing new:

That's it for today!

Why do you have that many water pipes? 1 pipe can supply water for 6 tiles on both sides, so laying 2 with just 4 tiles in between seems stupid to me.

We did not ask for seeing waterpipes but we ask for You to build watercompagnie and show us the pictures of. You better read again the challenge 2, You are missing many things.

O.K. I removed the pictures of the waterpipes. I'd build the power and the water supply close together and the homes of the workers nearby, and I was not sure if I had to take pictures from the water supply seperatly in that case. By the way, when I read the challenge again, it seems that I'm not satisfied about the current situation. Here's why

A.  You are asked to build a Powerstation/plant, or anything that will be able to sustain a small town with electrical energy in a strategical location. Choose the location well, according to your future downtown or towncenter.
As a responsable mayor you will have to think about any kind of possible pollution, practical access, costs of maintenance and of course of efficiency. It should supply electricity for 15,000 to 25,000 simhomes and it should look like it does.
Concerning the construction cost and budget, the Governor will give what you need, but don't overdo it though and build a nuclear plant or something that big, ok?! The budget is fairly high, so you will be able to build a goodlooking plant.  Be a responsable mayor this time!

My power supply is way too cheap. I have to build something more.

Hope this answers some things.

Best,
Maarten

By cheap you mean it will not produce enough water for your population? Well, that's your problem, you shouldn't have built up that city so big so fast.....lol. Listen, just make it look like it serves about 20 to 25K population, we won't ask for the statistics, we only want to see a picture of a waterstation that is able to produce enough water for approx. 20,000 to 25,000 people. It will be judged by utility, originality and logic for the Location.

Hope that helps.

I think he means that he hasn't built enough for 20 to 25k, but only enough for a small town, which is why he's taken down some of his pictures and is working on it more.

#6
Excactly, that's my point. The installation could only serve a 4K sims from the small town, while the current installation already serves 15K sims (because it also serves the town south of Grensstad/Bordertown). I think I'll upload the pictures this afternoon (Western European Time) Challenge 2 is up-to-date!

Your challenge 2 is well done according to the rules and the demands. You can now play on 2 more citytiles anywhere in your region. This will be a part of challenge 3. Make sure that you have at least 100 citizens in all three tiles you played in (no population max limit).

Hey Maarten great job here!!! I am glad you gotten everything solved in this round and so far better then me lol... I still haven't finished fixing my map yet from the moisture issue...

Judgement of Challenge 2

A.   Excellent choice to access most of the southwest of your region. We gave you 5 points for the route challenge.
B.  Windpower are the Governors favourites for a 15k to 25K population, clean and effective. Yours are a bit too close for comfort for the town though, but otherwise well placed in order and nicely fenced in for security. We especially like the powerlines. We gave you 4 points for the power challenge.
C.  Simple and effective, maybe a little too simple without much effort. We gave you 3 points for the waterchallenge.

A Total of 12 Points were added to your challenge.

Congratulations, very well done. We liked the details of the windpower plant. Good luck with the next challenge.

Lynn and Fred

Ps: Your town is really looking great now and well advanced. Good work!
