Hi,

Not sure if my question is related to CAM but I thought I would ask it here since I think it might have something to do with it.

I have been playing SC4 with CAM for a few months now and until recently, I had no problem with it. However, a week or so earlier my cities started having problems. Well its more like stopped having problems i.e. traffic ones. Suddenly most of the traffic in my cities disappeared . While I once had congestion all over the place, my cities now have hardly any traffic. The zones are developing just fine but whenever I look at the traffic view, there are hardly any traffic flowing around or across the cities. Whatever traffic there is, its mostly buses and pedestrians and are concentrated only in the residential areas. I use NAM and for the simulator I use Z ultra.
Normally, I would be happy not getting the congestion alarm all the time but I am worried the situation might get worse in future because I am concerned that it might have something to do with eternal commuters since I ended up building my cities in such a way that eternal commuting could come into play (that's what I get for skimming through the CAM manual &mmm ). However, I must add that the residential demands are still high in all the cities.

Anyways, here is a pic of my region and the area within black are where my dense residential buildings are. The Commerical zones are all in the middle while the zones on the coast are all industrial. Also, the other links are the links to pictures showing the Census Repository data from all my cities with buildings.

Simulator Z Ultra would certainly reduce the congestion.

There is indeed a huge risk that you will get eternal commuters through the four cities of City of Remembrance, Valor, City of Wisdom and Destiny (love your city name btw).
You can check your current situation by route querying the roads and avenues close to the downtown corner of those cities and see if (and how many) commuters there are going across the corner without stopping in the city itself.

Thanks for the reply. I have been using simulator z ultra since the starting of the region and I was having traffic congestion for a while in my cities. However, things cleared all of a sudden and now there aren't any traffic flowing through my commercial districts and very few traffic flowing in my residential districts. Also, there isn't much traffic going between cities. It probably has something to do with eternal commute.

Anyways, I decided to stop developing the region for now and start fresh on a new region.

Thanks once again.  :)

I always use the census repository to make sure that all my businesses and industry have workers.  I've found that it's quite easy to get commercial and industrial development without appropriate numbers of workers, and I think it's related to the CAM in some way, but I don't fully understand it.  Something about the "demand doubling bug" If you keep your commercial+industry jobs at a level somewhere near (and not too much more than) half the population of the city, you won't get that problem.  Developing the city in smaller pieces seems to help, as you can check to see if workers are arriving with the route query.

Too bad you had to start a new region.

Good choice of map btw. My first half dozen regions all used a Metro Vancouver map.
