I've played Sim City 4 for nearly 4 years now and I've never had abandonment issues this bad. Everytime a medium sized building pops up in my city it automatically gets the long commute icon and then sometime later abandons. I have the NAM installed, the latest for June 2009. I upgrade my streets to avenues, I even tear down nearby housing for commercial zones and it doesn't change. Any ideas?

I wasn't aware there was a long commute zot. Are you sure it isn't the "no car" icon? that means there's no access to a job.

Oh, that one. I always assumed it only meant no job, I didn't know it was long commute, too.

Well, here's what I found via Google: http://www.simphoni.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6813

QuoteFinally, I noticed something that every single one of the jobless buildings had in common. They were all, every last one of them, high wealth buildings. It hit me! I had just lowered taxes, and seen a population boom. But what I hadn't noticed was that the population boom had been almost entirely high wealth, and soon there were far more high wealth residents than there were high wealth jobs!

In case you don't already know it, high wealth sims have the hardest time finding jobs because even in an office building or a high tech industrial building, most of the jobs are medium and low wealth. Only a tenth or so of the jobs in these buildings are high wealth jobs.

I lowered the taxes in my main city to 6% for everything except industry, so that seems like it could be the issue. I'll try raising it back up. The only problem with that is, I started a city next to it with 9% taxes and it's got the same problem. Almost everything is having that same zot. Even low wealth buildings like the ones above.
