I will post here soon...nt very good at making suburbs, great big huge cities is my thing ;D

@sumwonyuno: Very nice suburbs! Nestled in the valley...seeing how tall those mountains are, and how narrow the valley is, are you playing a map of China/far East?

Simple picture from my suburbs (sorry for icons :P)

Very nice suburb you have there! Which parks did you use there? (no need to find link, just curious :))

EDIT: I was uploading while replying to this topic, and the pics finished uploading, so here they are:

Strategist01:  Heh, nice guess.  I'm guessing you must have been distracted by my pictures to not notice the line above that says Hawaii :P

[Edit]:  Just noticed that you edited your post to include pictures.  I don't have anything against Maxis content.  I like how you've done the 1x1 zoning and broken grid streets.  Though it seems like you need to finish adding trees and flowers in those empty zones.

_maciex_:  Your suburbs have a nice set of custom houses.  And, I like your profile icon, it's funny  :D

Strategist, I'm pretty sure those parks are one of the SFBT sets (which, I'm near certain can be found on the LEX).

As far as your suburb, I assume you eventually intend those areas to be rowhome areas?

Technically a small town, but it's going to be a suburb of a fairly large city eventually, so yeah.

Yes, it's ArkenbergeJoe's Low Wealth Park Set: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=796

Ok, thanks for the park link :), BTW, what do you mean rowhomes? As in upgrading to medium density and getting those tiny little medium wealth homes?

@sumwonyuno:  &ops didn't see that. And I just leave the emptiness for if I want to put stuff in there. I just leave it there so I can put a few park in, which attract the medium wealth people :)

cammo2003

Never mind the rowhomes comment, on second look probably not. I was tired.  :P

But the 1x1 zoning style I see you've used in a few places there is one I've used in the past to achieve some quite dense terrace/townhome/rowhome districts.

Strategist01

Hmmm, I don't think I will be upgrading my densities there, as the city centre, with all of the skyscrapers, is to the left in each picture, and there is a huge mountain in the top right, so it creates a nice L-shape, allowing me to make a well-defined city centre. And besides, I like the look of the low-density houses :)

Hey, hey, hey! :bomb: Theres no (maxis) street in between those houses where you have 6 in a row! How did you beat the system? ???

FrankU

Maybe the whole area was plopped?
After a lot of frustrating attempts to grow some kind of uniform area myself I could not resist the BuildingPlop Cheat and tried to plop a utopia myself. It is almost as frustrating, but hey... It's another way of playing the game. Although hitting the "run" button ruins everything.
So maybe surrus-ginagi did the same?

J-dub, FrankU, this is a combination of four different low density growable lots (5x6, 5x4, kd5rax's suburban homes), that's why there are no streets.
Since this is a newly developed city, there's only a low demand of R§§§, and these medium wealth growables are at the top of the food chain for now, and for this density and lot size:

Btw, I don't use that plop cheat thing, I don't see the point of plopping RCI buildings  :)

surrus-ginagi

a different kind of suburb, if anyone's looking for a dream home  ;D :

FrankU

OK, sorry surrus-ginagi, for accusing you of using the plop cheat. If you want to play the game, there is indeed no point in using it.
But I do envy you of your skills in getting such a uniform area. I hardly ever succeed in this.

Nice midrise area too!

Heres a new one I did. Its interesting how the same diagonal house grew at that one side on the diagonal street. Yes, they really grew, its possible so long as the lot is assigned corner street connection requirements, and you put the NAM ped tiles in between the open space. I do that, and eventually they grow into this, but they may not start with these diagonal buildings at first. It does not look like it, but all these lots in this neighborhood are only zoned 2x2, but 2 or 3 houses tried to grown in that space. As you can see the culdesac that backs to the main road, ended up getting the most houses surrounding it, and filling that space.
...
In summary, diagonals grown on diagonals, and bigger houses closing around culdesacs, I would like to see others come up with 2x2 neighborhoods with culdesacs like this.
Ooh, Ah! How did you do that? I have been building bays and have a problem with 2x2 squares of unusable land at the corners. I keep getting the symbol that says no road access so the zone doesn't develop. I have been coming up with creative ways of using the land, such as a medium green park or medium playground, but would like to build diagonal houses. Especially where I have a culdesac rather than a bay. Does it require some download for diagonal houses?

By default this game does not come with diagonal houses alone, the diagonal houses by Mattb325 can grow on diagonal streets. You get them from the bsclex only, here, http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/fr_main.htm You have to type in mattb325 in the creator search on the left of the site. I have not found his houses anywhere else, the bsclex requires a separate login from this site. The houses you saw me use from this builder were specifically, javascript:opennew('lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=394')

In game, you have to hold control down to zone 2x2 lots (4 tile square lot) and the way I do it is to temporarily use ped mall tiles in the area where there is no street connection, doing it this way ensures the house grows as one lot. Further back in this thread, you see I am not the only one who has gotten these houses to work, you will see someone else who grew a giant row of these diagonal houses on a street in between the water, on a sandy strip of land.
