What a mosaic, those are some beautiful suburbs!

I dont think I have ever seen an amusement park done so well. Just awesome.

Ioan (io_bg): Thank you very much for your compliments! They mean a lot, coming from someone as talented as you. The reason you see so much repetition and such rough terrain is mainly because these are older suburbs, which I built before downloading my slope mod and lots of commercial BATs (though, on that last part, the simulator is way too fond of certain buildings, even with my enlarged plugins folder). Rest assured, my newer suburbs look considerably better than these!

Alex (KoV Liberty): Thanks, Alex! I'm glad you like it. Might I ask what inspired your username change, if you don't mind telling me?

Ethan (ecoba): That's certainly possible, given the age of these suburbs. I'm happy that you like them, all the same! Thanks for your compliments!

Battlecat: Thank you, my friend! I'm flattered by your compliments - high praise coming from as good an MDer as yourself. I definitely wanted Nyhaven to be a place people would want to live, so it's great to read your comments that I've succeeded at that. If you like Ridgeland Park now, I'm sure you'll really enjoy what I'm about to do to make it even better! Take care!

djvandrake: I'm glad you like them so much! Thanks for stopping by!

Jordan (canyonjumper): Thank you, Jordan! I try to make the paths in my parks interesting, so I'm glad you like that one.

nedalezz: Thanks! I'd like to try making a better amusement park, but it's great to read that you like Thrillsbury Park so much.

You may have thought that I was finished with my remodel of the University of Nyhaven, but that's not quite true. I can't help but notice things that could be better, and one of those things was the medical center. The Maxis disease research center just wasn't cutting it for me, so I decided to adapt another hospital for the university and make it function as a disease research center at the same time. Here's the result:

I made sure to integrate the new lot with its surroundings, adding path connections where they were needed. Overall, I'm much happier with this hospital; its size makes it much more appropriate for a city of three million than the dinky Maxis disease research center, I think.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

djvandrake

I agree, the size is much more appropriate.  Good job on the lot.

canyonjumper

Nice job! It looks great!

I absolutely love the way you've designed and presented your transortation network.  Let me ask you this: do you have any problems with eternal commuters?  I've been designing my city to try to avoid them, but it really limits my ideas, e.g. beltways and "spoke" rail lines.

Tomas Neto

Yeah, and it's a fantastic result!!! Nice work!!!

Battlecat

Fantastic work on the revised hospital!  Looking forward to more as always!

KoV Liberty

Looking good as always! My username was changed because, well, I have a story. ;) About a week ago on Xbox Live, my friend from Chicago introduced me to a clan for Battlefield Bad Company. My rank would increase if I changed my gamertag. I went through countless possible names. They had to start with "KoV" which stands for the "Knights of Valor" gaming network. Some possible names were: KoV Shooter, KoV Snip3r, KoV Rock, KoV Golden, but none stuck. I had pretty much given up until I put in GTA IV the next morning. The city in the game is Liberty City. My favorite radio station is Liberty Rock Radio. It was originally going to be KoV Liberty Rock. But that turned out to be over the maximum number of letters, so I shortened it to KoV Liberty. And it stuck. The leader of Electron Squad (the clan I was in), KoV Monster, loves the gamertag and I like it as well. Since I'm on SC4Devotion a lot, I thought I would have it changed. And thanks to Ripplejet, it is. Hope this explanation wasn't too unbearably long! Lol. Anyways, nice update, I'm very much looking out for the next!

Alex

My new MD. Check it out if you wish.

Adrian, I miss you man.

mightygoose: Thank you!

djvandrake: Sometimes size does matter, eh? I'm glad you agree that this hospital is much better suited to a large university like the U of N. Thanks for your compliments on the lot!

Jordan (canyonjumper): Thank you, Jordan!

dafiden: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thanks for posting here! I'm flattered by your kind words regarding my transportation network. In my experience, I've noticed some eternal commuter loops, but they don't seem to be seriously harming gameplay in my quads. For the most part, I design my networks based more on RL planning ideals than on the quirks of the traffic simulator. If you're planning on starting an MD with your city, I recommend doing the same, but it's up to you. Hope that helps!

Tomas Neto: Thanks, Tomas!

Battlecat: Thank you very much, my friend!

Alex (KoV Liberty): Thanks, Alex! That's quite a story, but it makes sense. I might have done something similar if I had been involved with any clans when I was more of a gamer...

This week, we're taking a little trip up to the suburban city of Skamokawa, northwest of central Nyhaven. This city has been home to a number of upscale resort hotels for over a century, and they're all clustered together just a stone's throw from downtown Skamokawa:

While some of the hotels have been rebuilt more recently, a few have remained unchanged since the 1890s (aside from modernizing their amenities, of course). These hotels have made Skamokawa a popular honeymoon destination for decades.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

Slick use of the one-ways with the attractive tree-lined boulevards.  I like the way you've designed your side roads in such a way that one cannot take them instead of the main roads. There is a lot of shopping in that district.  Are those multi-story structures hotels (CS), or apartments (R)?  Also, do you grow, plop, or use a combination of the two for your RCI buildings?   Seems like you'd almost have to plop to get a hotel where you want it!  For example, specifically in a resort district.

(I'm asking these questions since I've been away from SC for a while and am deciding whether to start over with a new idea/model or continue the old region.)

Battlecat

Very nice update!  I like the seawalls you used near the top, and also the way you've set up those one way streets.

The parking lot to that marina at the top of the shot is rather terrifying though!

canyonjumper

Great mosaic! Just curious; where did you get the curvy hotel?

               Your friend,
                              Jordan

I think you probably mean the other hotel, but I tried to do some legwork for you since I'm not working on my own MD yet!  ;)

The pink hotel may be found here:

I couldn't find the blue and green one anywhere.  The only other thing I could think of was that it's not a hotel in reality, e.g conference center or museum.

Tomas Neto: I'm happy you like Skamokawa so much, my friend! Thanks for your compliments!

djvandrake: Well, there are plenty of those around here, that's for sure! Thank you for stopping by!

976: Thanks! I've already checked in, so I'm just working on my activity level now.

dafiden (x2): Welcome to Nyhaven, and thanks for your kind words! I hadn't noticed the rather (in)convenient layout of the sidestreets before, so good job catching that. All the multi-story BATs you see are CS hotels, and I plopped each of them there. I wouldn't leave it to chance to try to get that many hotels in such a small area. However, I grow most of my RCI, with only a few exceptions in my CBDs. Thanks also for answering Jordan's question! I wish you success in your re-entry into the SC4 world!

Battlecat: Thank you, my friend! Those are some of my favorite seawalls, in fact. As it turns out, a few of my readers over at ST weren't so fond of that marina parking lot, either, so when I redesigned this area, I decided to just get rid of those marinas, attractive as they are, and extend the seawall; there's a nice, cozy harbor nearby, so it's not a great loss.

Jordan (canyonjumper): Thanks, Jordan! The hotel you're thinking of is dmscopio's Heywood Inn 2, which AFAIK is only available at his personal website.

Sorry to be posting this special so much later than usual. Last Thursday was a busy day for me, between finals, finishing an SC4 project (which you'll get to see before too long) and driving home for spring break. This coming Thursday won't be any better, so I thought it best to post this special now rather than make you all wait three weeks for something new from Nyhaven. So then, what do I have for you today? Have a look:

The caption says it all, really. This is the corner of Ironwood Avenue and Broadway, in the Greektown neighborhood. If the small grey rowhouses don't look familiar (or even if they do), they're giorgos69's Athenian Apartments, but resized in the Reader to be truly W2W and closer to a realistic scale. Giorgos has already given me permission to upload the resized models and lots, so once I make a couple of adjustments to the lots (like making the buildings line up properly), they'll be available for all to download on the STEX.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

Nice rowhouses, and an authentic feel of a larger city ethnic neighborhood.

Nice job on today's update.  This area looks great!
